Geomagnetic storms are descending on US over the next few days. Several states, including New York and Idaho will have visible northern lights as a result. They are the result of a coronal mass injection (CME) that is flung out from one of the sun’s sunspots. This sparks a geomagnetic storm in Earth’s magnetic field. The sun storm is called a coronal hole high-speed stream, which knocks solar winds into open space.
The eruption left the sun on November 25 and will cause aurorae Nov 28-Dec 2.
