My read: the hard part of catching someone overseas used to be getting them back. That part is getting quiet. Look at the last ten days. One European country after another hands people over, no headlines, no standoff. This week it was the Netherlands.
Here is what's on the record.
October 23, 2026. Los Angeles. Zheng Zhao, 44, a Chinese national, makes his first appearance in federal court. Ordered held. Arraignment set for November 30.
He was arrested in the Netherlands. Dutch authorities helped arrest him and send him over.
The case: 174 Americans. More than $36.9 million.
The playbook. A message on social media, a text, a dating app. Trust first. Then a "crypto investment" on a website built to look like a real trading platform. The account shows gains. The money is already gone.
The route: U.S. bank accounts and U.S. shell companies. One account at a bank in the Bahamas. Converted to Tether. Sent to a wallet controlled in Cambodia. Passed up to the bosses of the scam centers.
Eight people have already pleaded guilty. Two of them are serving 51 and 46 months for running the money.
The U.S. Secret Service led it, with Homeland Security Investigations, Customs and Border Protection, Diplomatic Security and the Marshals.
First Assistant U.S. Attorney Bill Essayli: "As crime has globalized, so has law enforcement's ability to locate and catch criminals."
Now widen the lens.
Look at the people moved across borders in the last ten days.
👉October 14. India sends the FBI's most-wanted fraudster to Washington state.
👉October 15. Sweden sends a Russian national to New York, charged with smuggling U.S. military electronics through Hong Kong.
👉October 21. Swiss police in Lugano arrest a suspect wanted by Italy in the mafia shadow-bank case.
👉October 21. Colombia arrests eight people wanted in the United States, one of them accused of laundering $42 million in crypto.
👉October 23. The Netherlands sends Zheng Zhao to Los Angeles.
India. Sweden. Switzerland. Colombia. The Netherlands. Five countries. Five different court systems. All of them saying yes.
