πΊπΈ Todd : So, back to the hospital, so, you were there all day, what do you do? Do you watch TV? I mean, do you play cards?
π¦πΊ Barbara: Well, at first I was in too much pain to do anything, and, well, after awhile friends came to see me. They brought me books. I read a lot of books. I had my portable CD player and listened to music and I guess the most important part of the hospital routine is when they bring the food around β the meal times, but I couldn't eat.
Todd : Oh, no.
Barbara: So I could just watch from the sidelines as the other people in my room, were, you know, getting ready for meals, and they would get out their chopsticks and they would be discussing what was on today's menu and, yeah, they really got into it, and I was left out, you know.
Todd: That's terrible.
Barbara: Not able to eat anything. And there were three old ladies in the same room as me, and they commented on the food that was served up and they often said things like, βOh, you know, I could cook better than this at homeβ and βOh, I don't think this is very goodβ butβ¦ so all of the talk of food just made me salivate, made my stomach constrict, and I was like dreaming about food all the time.
Todd: So when you got out and you could actually eat food outside of the hospital for the first time, what's the first thing you had?
Barbara: Soba.
Todd: Soba.
Barbara: Japanese soba noodles.
Todd: Well, soba is pretty good.
Barbara: Yeah. Yeah. And in a sense I lost my interest in I guess junk food and high calorie food.
Todd: I guess there's a lesson to be learned.
Barbara: Definitely.

π Learn Vocabulary from the Lesson
βͺοΈ The aerodynamics
It's basically car design and basically technology in cars in all aspects: the engine, the performance, the aerodynamics.
The 'aerodynamics' of something are the features that it has which make it more streamlined and therefore go faster. An aerodynamic object is less affected by wind. Notice the following:
β«οΈThey are really good at designing the aerodynamics of cars.
β«οΈThe first planes were not very aerodynamic.
βͺοΈ Alternative fuels
In the near future I think the big developments will be alternative fuels.
'Alternative fuels' are new types of fuel sources, other than those that are obtained from non-renewable energy sources. Some examples of alternative fuels are water, wind and solar power. Notice the following:
β«οΈI had to write an essay about alternative fuels, and I did a lot of research into the topic.
β«οΈThe government is investing a lot of money researching the different kinds of alternative fuels.
βͺοΈ Hybrid cars
I think the developments will be towards electric or hybrid cars.
A 'hybrid car' is a car that can be ran off both petrol and electric power. Some hybrid cars use only electric power when driving at slower speeds. Notice the following:
β«οΈI recently bought a hybrid car, and now I rarely have to go to the gas station.
β«οΈHybrid cars are still quite expensive to buy.
βͺοΈ Sense of freedom
People like the sense of freedom from having a car.
When you have a 'sense of freedom,' it means that you feel free to be able to move about and go the places you want when you want to go there. Notice the following:
β«οΈWhen you are an adult, you have a greater sense of freedom, as you can make your own decisions.
β«οΈI have my own car now, and it has given me such a sense of freedom.
βͺοΈ Flow and congestion
Traffic flow and congestion is a problem.
Here, 'flow and congestion' refer to the movement of traffic. When traffic 'flows,' it moves freely and without problems. If traffic is 'congested,' it can't move quickly and is stuck in one place. Notice the following:
β«οΈThey need to deal with the flow and congestion of traffic on the busy roads.
β«οΈTraffic signals help to regulate the flow and congestion of traffic.

πΊπΈ Todd: What's the last cool thing you bought at a flea market?
πΊπΈ Melissa: I bought an old, vintage style radio but that wasn't at a flea market. The last cool thing I bought at a flea market? Well, I kind of went to a ... it was like a flea market. I mean, kids on the university campus were selling their old clothes and stuff and I got this very nice winter jacket for about 50 cents.
Todd: 50 cents?
Melissa: Yes.
Todd: Wow!
Melissa: Yeah. It's right there. That one. It's green.
Todd: That's a nice jacket!
Melissa: Thanks.
Todd: I like the price. Like, they said, "nope" - 75 cents - too much. 25 cents - too cheap. Now did you actually haggle for 50 cents?
Melissa: No, now that jacket was actually that price, but some other kids at a different spot on the same site were doing a game where you shoot down things with this kind of play gun and get points and then depending on how many points you got, you could choose from a different group of stuff. So, I was shooting for a CD-Stereo, but I ended up only getting a jacket and and a hat and some accessories like a watch and a necklace. Yeah, so that was kind of disappointing cause I ended up walking away with a bunch of stuff I didn't want or need. That was good on their behalf. I thought that was good sales tactic, cause I thought I was playing a game and I was enjoying shooting stuff down and getting points but then I realized I was acquiring these things I didn't need.

Your heart for takeaway, yeah, yeah, yeah-yeah
Your heart for takeaway, yeah, yeah, yeah-yeah
Your heart for takeaway, yeah-yeah, yeah-yeah
Your heart for takeaway, yeah, yeah, yeah-yeah
[Verse 1: Lennon Stella & Andrew Taggart]
Hey, hey, hey
Where do you think you're going?
It's so late, late, late, what's wrong?
I said, "I can't stay, do I have to give a reason?"
It's just me, me, me, it's what I want
[Pre-Chorus: Lennon Stella & Andrew Taggart]
So how did we get here?
Three weeks now, we've been so caught up
Better if we do this on our own
[Chorus: Lennon Stella & Andrew Taggart]
Before I love you, na, na, na
I'm gonna leave you, na, na, na
Before I'm someone you leave behind
I'll break your heart so you don't break mine
Before I love you, na, na, na
I'm gonna leave you, na, na, na
Even if I'm not here to stay
I still want your heart
