Bayern Munich looked tried, flat, and unmotivated to take the pitch (maybe because of the Bayer Leverkusen result earlier in the day), but it made for bad football and BVB took advantage of the situation. Here are some quick hitters on the match: As always, let’s start with Thomas Tuchel’s starting XI: | STARTING XI
Here’s the squad for DER KLASSIKER! ⚪️#FCBBVB pic.twitter.com/X8jE8u6ktC— FC Bayern US (@FCBayernUS) March 30, 2024Everything went exactly as predicted on the Preview Show — and nope, that did not take much skill or even smarts to figure out the XI. Tuchel seemed willing to stick with the majority of what worked over the past three games, except for adding in Konrad Laimer and Alphonso Davies for Aleksandar Pavlović and Raphaël Guerreiro. Even with the returns of Kingsley Coman and Serge Gnabry, this was the right play for Tuchel...it just fell apart. While it took a few minutes to feel each other out, Bayern Munich became the aggressor and Borussia Dortmund looked apprehensive very early on.Karim Adeyemi put BVB on the scoreboard in the 11th minute on a goal that really should not have happened. A turnover from Thomas Müller, led to a quick counterattack that saw Adeyemi get a step on Matthijs de Ligt, whose positioning was not great. From there, Adeyemi hit a shot that should have been saved by Sven Ulreich. Three wrongs clearly do not make a right. It should be noted that Kimmich was MIA on the play, too. The Bayern Munich wingers were not exactly tracking back with purpose either (really, for most of the first half). Overall, though, Kimmich did have a solid game...maybe the best of any Bayern Munich player. Instead of a response, though, Bayern Munich seemed to lose a little confidence and focus.Mats Hummels should have made it 2-0 when play opened up due to some lax positioning from Alphonso Davies, but he flubbed his attempt pretty badly, though. The former Bayern Munich defender was fantastic on the day and was easily the best player on the field. Bayern Munich’s lapse made it seem like no one was on the same page as there were several needless miscues.Kimmich is a fantastic attacking right-back when motivated to play the position. Defensively, though, Kimmich and Davies — together — left too much space on the field for counterattacks.Leroy Sané, Jamal Musiala, and Laimer all did far too much dribbling into defenders during the first half.Goretzka had a few brilliant moments, followed by a few silly pass attempts. In the end, it just was not good enough from him. Musiala’s willingness to track back was really lacking.Kane was very “meh” for a good chunk of the match. It seemed as if the Englishman was very pouty about the quality of service headed his way, but it is also possible that his ankle injury was still bothering him. Davies has zero right…

Die Folgen: Bayern’s 2-2 draw with Dortmund (Bavarian Football Works)Another unfulfilling result for Bayern Munich as the team fought to a 2-2 draw with Borussia Dortmund in Der Klassiker. The game was fun, intense, and definitely a good representation of the rivalry, but the Bavarians needed help from Union Berlin to maintain their six-point lead in the Bundesliga. Let’s dive in...here are some quick hitters on the match: As always, let’s begin with a look at the starting XI: Mit dieser in den

Otherwise, everything went as planned. Josip Stanišić getting the nod at left-back also shows that Kompany is committed to using the Croatian against Inter Milan on Wednesday. Müller did not take advantage of his chances, but he might have been Bayern Munich’s best attacker on the day. Bayern Munich started the match with a lot of energy, but efficiency in front of goal would prove to be an obstacle once again for the Bavarians. As for Borussia Dortmund, the visitors did not appear to be too bothered by the atmosphere or Bayern Munich. The two teams looked intense and had fire, but had heavy legs. Plenty of heart, but fatigue from the heavy schedule of late affected both squads. The match went into halftime 0-0, but it did feel like something would eventually break — this time it was Bayern Munich center-back Kim Min-jae. Julian Ryerson lofted a cross from the left side toward the back post. Min-jae appeared to have trouble reading the trajectory of the ball (not the first time we have seen that from him) and while trying to track the flight of the ball, Maximilian Beier slipped in front of Min-jae for the header goal. BVB was up 1-0 in the 48th minute.Beier does have some jets man...Vincent Kompany did not address it after the game, but Min-jae was removed from the match six minutes later. You could see the dismay in Min-jae’s face after the goal scored. Joshua Kimmich and Leon Goretzka did a better job in the central midfield than they did against Inter Milan earlier this week. In the 63rd minute, Aleksandar Pavlović got back into gear when he subbed in for Goretzka. Goretzka had a terrific tackle deep in his own territory in the 56th minute. Niklas Süle had an awesome challenge from behind on his old golf buddy, Müller, in the 58th minute.Michael Olise had one of those games where he did some great things and then nullified them by forcing some plays. In the 65th minute, the unlikely trio of Serge Gnabry, Müller, and Raphaël Guerreiro combined for a goal. Guerreiro ultimately converted a very nice pass from Müller to knot the game at 1-1.In the 69th minute, we saw some #GnabryMagic, something which has been absent for quite a bit. A seemingly innocent pass from Stanišić to Gnabry led to the winger pulling his best Leo Messi impersonation by dancing through Borussia Dortmund’s defense for a highlight reel-worthy goal. I mean...that is the kind of goal that would excite a lot of clubs in the transfer market. Interestingly, Goretzka’s reaction to Gnabry’s goal was one of fierce appreciation.Unfortunately, BVB has an answer. In the 75th minute, Waldemar Anton (!?) tied the game after Serhou Guirassy’s incredible shot was saved by Jonas Urbig. Harry Kane did not have his best game. On a different day, he might walk away with three goals, but much like his performance against Inter Milan, the Englishman’s finishing left a lot to be desired. Overall, it was a fun, hard-fought game...but one that was — once again — unfulfilling for Bayern Munich. The Bavarians will have to be a lot better than they were this week if they want to have any chance of defeating Inter Milan in the Champions League. If you missed our Initial Analysis, Match…

FC Bayern Muenchen v Borussia Dortmund - Bundesliga Photo by Franz Kirchmayr/SEPA.Media /Getty Images Another Der Klassiker in the books. Bayern have to shift quickly now to the Champions League quarters. Bayern Munich took on Borussia Dortmund in a match that had less significance than past rounds have had, but nonetheless produced a good amount of Saturday entertainment. In this edition of Der Klassiker, the traditional Bundesliga rivals shared spoils in a 2-2 draw that probably does not change very much for either side.Which team had more Champions League hangover after getting beat midweek by Inter Milan and FC Barcelona, respectively? The Bavarians came out determined to show that it was not them. But despite owning the first half in underlying metrics, they could not get on the scoreboard:via @philneezy.bsky.social #FCBBVB— Bavarian Football Works (@bavarianfbworks.bsky.social) 2025-04-12T17:22:29.079ZIn the second half, Dortmund flipped the script and scored first through Maximilian Beier. However…— Manuel Veth (@manuelveth.bsky.social) 2025-04-12T17:51:41.587ZSubstitutes Raphaël Guerreiro and Serge Gnabry quickly vaporized the BVB advantage. But this momentum would not last either, Waldemar Anton scrambling home an equalizer in the 76th minute and setting up a frenetic, end to end finish. So what do you think?
