FC Augsburg have already beaten this team once in the league already — it would be unimaginable to let them do the double. The thing is, there is the minor fact that a lot of players have started three games in a row and they’re just tired. Apparently Thomas Muller, Matthijs de Ligt, Leon Goretzka, and Kingsley Coman all fall in that category. Meanwhile Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting out with a back problem. This means that it’s a huge opportunity for Augsburg to take some points away from the Allianz Arena, but it’s also a chance for players like Joao Cancelo, Serge Gnabry, Leroy Sane, and more to get minutes and maybe muscle their way back into the lineup. There were some true moments of brilliance, however, so it was palatable in the end. Let’s take a look at how things played out: As always, let’s start with a look at the lineup: <a href="https://twitter.com/FCA_World?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">@FCA_World</a>

All week there was a call at BFW for Thomas Müller to start as the No. 10, but Tuchel opted against that option. It was also said here that any capable player could man the No. 10 and Bayern Munich would roll. Regardless of that, it seems that Tuchel is picking up where he left off last year in attempting to stray away from using Müller. As stated, Müller was certainly not the only option, but it does continue to build the curiosity of what a Müller-Kane partnership might look like over the course of a full match. The other primary absence from the lineup was Matthijs de Ligt. Tuchel hinted that he would not be changing things on the backline, so it was not a surprise to see Kim Min-jae and Dayot Upamecano as the starters. Bayern Munich seems to be having some issues finding ways to get Kane the ball. After years of a partnership with Robert Lewandowski, it would seem like an ideal way to help that situation would be to try Müller as the No. 10 (<em>insert shrug emoji</em>). The players surrounding Kane against FC Augsburg were also some of the players who did not do a good job of feeding Robert Lewandowski during his last campaign in Germany. Give FC Augsburg credit for how it approached the game. <em>Die Fuggerstädter</em> knew they were outgunned, played conservatively, and looked for chances to spring out on a counterattack. The best way to describe how the Bayern Munich attack is functioning right now is disjointed. It will take some time to get this where it needs to be. It is not awful by any means, but it is far from what things will look like when it is at its best. An FC Augsburg own goal put Bayern Munich on the board in the 32nd minute, which was very fortunate for the Bavarians. That did appear to open things up for Bayern Munich a bit. Just a few minutes later, an unnecessary handball on FC Augsburg put Kane on the penalty spot. Kane, of course, drilled it home for a 2-0 lead in the 40th minute. Kim Min-jae was not great. Honestly, none of the four starters were overly outstanding, but FC Augsburg rarely even posed a threat. Min-jae seemed fatigued midway through the first half. Freaking Serie A man...what are they doing there?Upamecano almost had a disaster-class type of play by hanging Sven Ulreich out to dry early in the second half. Despite not being under heavy pressure for most of the match, it was unnecessarily sloppy — similar to plays he made before unraveling last season in key moments. Upamecano cannot lose focus for a second, he has to stay all-in to be at his best. Look...he gets dogged by nearly everyone now, but Leon…

FC Bayern München v FC Augsburg - Bundesliga Photo by Alexander Hassenstein/Getty Images It wasn’t easy, but Bayern Munich made it work! Die Folgen: Bayern’s 3-0 win over Augsburg (Bavarian Football Works)Bayern Munich was — once again — dominant, but did — once again — have a lot of trouble dealing with a low block. Ultimately, Bayern Munich would walk away with a 3-0 victory over FC Augsburg, thanks to a couple of penalty kicks and one sensational goal from Harry Kane, but it was yet another test of the team’s will and perseverance. Let’s get down to it — here are some quick hitters on the match: As always, let’s take a look at the starting XI: #FCBayern #MiaSanMia | #FCBFCA pic.twitter.com/xWSMXecxxX— FC Bayern (@FCBayernEN) November 22, 2024Again, Vincent Kompany went fairly conventional. At right-back, the coach opted for Raphaël Guerreiro over Konrad Laimer and Sacha Boey, while selecting the winger tandem of Michael Olise and Kingsley Coman over Leroy Sané and Serge Gnabry. Nothing was terribley shocking with those picks. Manuel Neuer’s iffy status was cleared up a few hours before the game as well. It was curious to see how the new grass would be. On television it seems as if it was playing more like artificial turf than grass, which was curious — especially as it was a wintery mix falling (or at least that’s what it looked to be on television). FC Augsburg did not hide what it was doing. The visitors packed in all 10 players in the final third and clogged every possible forward passing or shooting lane. Neuer should have just joined the attack. Goretzka had a good attempt from distance in the 13th minute, but sent his shot wide of the mark. That would have been a nice way for the midfielder to start and to also open the match up. If you have seen one game of Bayern Munich paying against a disciplined, low block, you have seen them all. Bayern Munich dominated possession, but could not find a way to break through the compact Augsburg side. In the 42nd minute, Kane slid a pass across the box, but Musiala was a step late in getting there.Coman’s crosses are — maybe — worse than ever. It is downright abysmal. In added time for the first half, Goretzka almost pulled off what would have been a terrific goal but it nicked off a defender and went over the net for a corner. All-in-all, the first half played out like so many other periods have for Bayern Munich when facing an opponent who is content to muck the game up. 80% possession and 13 shots, but nothing to show for it. Part of me wonders if the Bundesliga has to start re-thinking making Bayern Munich its featured game when not playing an opponent who is willing to play. If there were neutrals out there tuning in to see what the Bundesliga was all about, this was not a great representation in the first half. The first 45 minutes were not the most active for Harry Kane, either — another trait of Bayern Munich’s frustrations in dealing with the low block. In the 61st minute, a Michael Olise corner resulted in handball by Mads Pedersen. It was not called initially, but it was very, very clear that Pedersen’s arm made very solid contact in an unnatural position. Kane subsequently buried the PK and Bayern Munich fans everywhere could exhale as the home side finally had a 1-0 lead. Goretzka was good. I know that will make some people irate, but he was very effective in this match. Bayern Munich was trying to make things happen, but FC Augsburg was so compact that any combination, pass, or dribble had to be absolutely perfect to work.Keven Schlotterbeck fouled Kane in the box in extra time which led to another Kane penalty, which he promptly buried to make it 2-0.That opened the late floodgates, as Goretzka lofted a pass in, which Kane played to himself for a neat little header and a 3-0 lead. It was really a spectacular effort from Kane after a nice ball in from Goretzka.Overall, the game was not a barnburner, but Bayern Munich did what it needed to do to win the game. FC Augsburg was exceptionally disciplined and effective…
