For Thomas Tuchel, it was touch-and-go for a while as his heavily rotated lineup started out great, but wore down and let the newly-promoted club back into the match. In the end, though, Bayern Munich was simply too good. Here are some quick hitters on the game: ⚪️ Starting 1⃣1⃣ Heidenheim ⚪️ #packmas #FCBFCH pic.twitter.com/jJMmLydsZy— FC Bayern US (@FCBayernUS) November 11, 2023The lineup was definitely interesting and smart by Tuchel. Resting Leon Goretzka was a great move, while Alphonso Davies undoubtedly could have used the extra downtime to reboot himself as well (well, at least until he came in as a sub). Not only is Goretzka dealing with his hand injury, but he picked up a “muscle issue.” Bayern Munich needs to get him healthy. How good is Harry Kane? The Englishman is just an absolute machine. All of last season, Bayern Munich was lying to itself and the fans by trying to play without a top-flight No. 9. Kane’s presence has opened up the attack and he has lived up to his lofty billing as one of the world’s best strikers. Kane staked Bayern Munich to a 2-0 lead, but the Bavarians coughed it up. Do you prefer “Prime Lewandowski” or “Prime Kane”?It is tempting to keep riding Leroy Sané, but it feels like he could start to use a few more days off mixed in now, so that he will be ready when really needed later this season. With Sané (who was solid on Saturday), Gnabry, and Coman, it does always feel like they need their workload managed properly to ensure they stay in prime condition. The backline was...fine...sort of...maybe. Kim Min-jae continues to struggle a bit and Noussair Mazraoui just is not differentiating himself that much these days as he once was. That said, it is not time to bury either guy...they just each were not great. Bouna Sarr is what he is, but at least Dayot Upamecano is looking good. For Upamecano, it is a matter of whether or not he can get past his current status of “just about fully healthy” and progress to “full healthy.”The starting midfield duo of Aleksandar Pavlović and Konrad Laimer was...okay. Not great, not terrible...but okay. For Pavlović, it was a good way to ramp into life with the first team. For Laimer, though, he needs to be better than he was, which again was...okay. Thomas Müller’s shift only last 61 minutes, but it was a good run for the old fella. After Heidenheim knotted the game, goals from Raphaël Guerreiro and Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting put the match away for Bayern Munich, but it was disconcerting to see how fatigued Bayern Munich looked and how it let Heidenheim make a comeback. Credit to Heidenheim, though, they showed a ton of heart and fight. Overall, Kane is a monster and Bayern Munich is continuing to do enough to bring in three points (for most games), but there is still a little voice whispering about how there is still ample room for improvement — and also that is must get better. Right now, though, it is time to enjoy the moment and the incredible show that Kane is putting on. If you missed out <a href="ht…

He’s not played for a while, but he’s available,” Kompany noted.Kane making progressAccording to a report from Bild (via @iMiaSanMia), Harry Kane completed a 20-minute training session today: Harry Kane completed a 20-minute individual session today. The striker is still around a week away from making his comeback and will miss the next two games against Heidenheim and Shakhtar.Kompany touched on Kane’s timeline for a return in his press conference.“Things are looking good. I don’t want to give a timeline and put our medical team under pressure. It could well be that he plays again this year. But everything needs to go perfectly,” Kompany said (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).Stanišić expected back soonJosip Stanišić could be back in the fold soon as well: Josip Stanišić worked individually today and is expected to resume team training this month [@BILD] pic.twitter.com/k0P413eBtU— Bayern & Germany (@iMiaSanMia) December 6, 2024Random Pics Training ahead of #FCBFCH pic.twitter.com/xoTM66ZaXd— Bayern & Germany (@iMiaSanMia) December 6, 2024 Final training session ahead of tomorrow's game pic.twitter.com/wfny6GqiO3— Bayern & Germany (@iMiaSanMia) December 6, 2024Vincent Kompany actively involved in training today [ @BILD] pic.twitter.com/G2AiqyehYO— Bayern & Germany (@iMiaSanMia) December 6, 2024Looking to get ready for Bayern Munich vs. Heidenheim this weekend? FC Bayern München v 1. FC Heidenheim 1846 - Bundesliga Photo by Sebastian Widmann/Getty Images Bayern Munich pulled out a 4-2 win over an overmatched Heidenheim side. Die Folgen: Bayern’s 4-2 win over Heidenheim (Bavarian Football Works)Bayern Munich entered its Bundesliga match as a heavy favorite against Heidenheim, which gave Vincent Kompany the opportunity to mix things up a but with his squad. While Bayern Munich did pull away for a 4-2 victory, a lot of the attention was on Heidenheim’s German-Austrian phenom Paul Wanner, who is on loan from Bayern Munich. Playing as an attacking midfielder in a 3-4-2-1 (or what really functioned as a 5-3-2), Wanner gave Bayern Munich fans something else to focus on during the match (though, he was not all that involved in a dull attacking showing for his squad). Let’s not waste any more time, here are some quick hitters on the match: As always, let’s take a look at the starting XI: ⚪ ⚪ #FCBFCH #FCBayern #MiaSanMia pic.twitter.com/EyzlyZMWf6— FC Bayern (@FCBayernEN) December 7, 2024Some really interesting notes for the lineup: Jamal Musiala was rested, Thomas Müller re-joined the XI, Sacha Boey got the nod at right-back, Raphaël Guerreiro was called to start, Aleksandar Pavlović returned to the starting lineup, Leroy Sané and Michael Olise started together, and Jonah Kusi-Asare joined the team. So yeah, there was a lot of movement and it was unclear exactly who would fit into what position, but — officially — Müller played striker, Guerreiro played left-wing, Olise was the attacking midfielder, and Sané was the right-wing. Clearly, though, there was a lot of interchanging. As expected, Heidenheim packed its personnel in and maintained a very compact and disciplined shape. In the 12th minute, Müller had a decent look, but couldn’t find a corner. It was very clear that Bayern would control the match. Just two minutes later, Sané couldn’t get enough on a header and flicked it wide. Seconds later, Sané sent a tough-angle chip wide as well. Bayern Munich was working for shots and it felt one goal was going to open the floodgates.Poor Paul Wanner, though, he had no chance to do anything of significance. Heidenheim was completely overmatched. In the 18th minute, though, Bayern Munich would break through on a perfectly placed corner from Joshua Kimmich, which found the head of Dayot Upamecano for an easy 1-0 lead. With Heidenheim so compact, this was likely going to be one of the few ways Bayern Munich could have opened up the game. Bayern Munich’s movement was not great, which just led to a seemingly unending series of short passes under pressure. Heidenheim had absolutely no threat to Bayern Munich. They could not maintain possession or even mount an attack. In the 38th minute, Guerreiro and Davies had a really nice combination, but Davies’ shot went wide. Heidenheim was just completely overmatched in every aspect of the game. Whenever Heidenheim actually had possession, Bayern Munich would win it back within seconds. At halftime, the score was still 1-0 in favor of Bayern Munich, but the Bavarians had 86% possession.Pavlović sent a nice attempt that went just wide. Then…the unthinkable happened. Mathias Honsak took advantage of an absolutely dreadful back-pass from Upamecano. Peretz was caught in-between and Honsak took a brilliant touch around him for the goal to knot it at 1-1 in the 50th minute.Peretz could have done better with more anticipation of the play, but Upamecano gave the goal away.Kompany immediately hit the panic button and took off Müller in favor of Musiala the move would be fortuitous. In the 56th minute, Musiala was given way too much room to dribble and ripped off a shot to the near post to make it 2-1 and everyone in the Allianz Arena could exhale. The play by Musiala, who was assisted by Olise, showed a real lack of awareness by Heidenheim’s defenders. All passing lanes were cut off and instead of stepping to Musiala, they just kept ceding position to the Bayern Munich star, leaving him no other option aside of taking a…
FC Bayern München v 1. FC Heidenheim 1846 - Bundesliga Photo by Alexander Hassenstein/Getty Images You miss a hundred percent of the bicycle kicks you don’t take. In the 38th minute of Bayern Munich’s 4-2 victory over FC Heidenheim on Saturday, Thomas Müller found himself with back to goal but in a good position to try the audacious. He and Raphaël Guerreiro had both made a charge into the Heidenheim box, and Guerreiro popped the ball back towards him in a slick give-and-go move. The score was 1-0, with the Bavarians pushing hard to double their advantage. So naturally, Müller sized up the situation and went for the overhead golazo.Thomas [ : ESPN+] #FCBFCH #FCBayern— Bavarian Football Works (@bavarianfbworks.bsky.social) 2024-12-07T21:49:33.858ZOuch. If you watched the landing, it looked painful — and Müller confirmed as much.“My attempt at a bicycle kick didn’t go so well,” Müller quipped afterwards in remarks captured by FCBayern.com. “My muscles were a bit tight, and I couldn’t move after the break, but it wasn’t that bad. I don’t think it was the stupidest idea to make way for Jamal.”After Heidenheim equalized in the 51st minute, Müller was off for Jamal Musiala on what was supposed to be the younger superstar’s rest day. But all went well for the Bavarians, who via a Musiala brace collected the 4-2 win in the end.Müller went on to highlight that there was room for criticism — if one insisted on making it — and for Bayern to be more clinical with their opportunities. But: “In the end, the important thing is that we won today.”Looking for more thoughts and analysis on Bayern Munich’s somewhat wild and somewhat odd 4-2 victory over Heidenheim?
