So, what caused the ‘behind the scenes rift’ between Chris LaCivita and President elect, Donald J. Trump?
The rift appears to stem from several high-profile incidents and underlying tensions:
1. Financial Disputes: Reports highlighted that LaCivita's consulting firm, Advancing Strategies LLC, received significant payments from Trump's campaign and associated entities. A Daily Beast article revealed that his firm was paid $19.2 million, which fueled accusations of LaCivita "cashing in" at a time when the campaign was financially strained. This led to Trump reportedly being furious about LaCivita's compensation, which was perceived as excessive by some within the campaign.
2. January 6th Capitol Insurrection: LaCivita's social media activity post-January 6, 2021, where he shared posts blaming Trump for inciting the riot, resurfaced during the campaign. This included reposts calling January 6 an "insurrection" fueled by Trump's election lies. These actions were seen by Trump as disloyalty, significantly damaging their relationship. Trump reportedly told several people that LaCivita was "dead to him" after this was revealed, indicating no future role for LaCivita in his administration.
3. Strategic Differences and Internal Power Struggles: There have been reports of internal conflicts within Trump's campaign, including with other key figures. LaCivita's role as co-campaign manager alongside Susie Wiles was part of a broader strategy to keep the campaign tightly controlled, but this also led to power struggles and distrust among the campaign team.
4. Public Perception and Media Scrutiny: LaCivita's past, particularly his involvement in the controversial Swift Boat Veterans for Truth campaign against John Kerry, and his current position at the helm of Trump's campaign, made him a target for media scrutiny. This scrutiny, coupled with the financial and loyalty issues, contributed to the public perception of discord between him and Trump.
These factors collectively contributed to a significant rift, with Trump reportedly planning to sever ties with LaCivita after the election, despite LaCivita's role in managing the campaign. However, LaCivita, described as viewing himself as a "hired gun," had reservations about working for Trump from the beginning, suggesting the relationship was pragmatic rather than personal.

We are not asking the President to relitigate the primary. He won it, and the country ratified it. We are asking him to stop renting the aftermath to the man who tried to spend the base’s money against the base’s champion in Texas, and who has now been caught by the Times renting himself to a pro-Russian government while the midterms are on the table.

Vance speaking / Guilfoyle quote from gaggle
VP Vance took the podium at 2.30pm, walking down the steps from Air Force Two about 100 yards to the podium to big cheers.
“That’s not a bad entrance is it?” Vance said. He added that he’d been all over the world and the US “but man it’s good to be home.”
The rally is in an airport hangar with Air Force Two in the background and two twin-prop planes inside. There are a few hundred people, many with red MAGA caps.
VP Vance is speaking on a podium with placards saying ‘DEFEND OUR FUTURE’ and ‘Vote on November 3’, with ‘Lima, Ohio’ on small letters. On the left is a large US flag, on the right is a large Ohio flag.
Tiers with a few dozen people are on each side, each has a big ‘Defend our future’ sign and there’s an even bigger one on the left hand wall.
Sen. Bernie Moreno had warmed up the crowd for Vance. “This is MAGA territory,” Moreno said.
Moreno said of Sherrod Brown:
“So he's back. It's like a bad Star Wars episode. You got the villain in one movie, and he's back in the next one. So you're gonna defeat him again this year?” The crowd chanted “Yes!”

Speech highlights / rope line
Vance’s speech started with calls for people to vote for Sen. Jon Husted and governor candidate Vivek Ramaswamy. VP praised Sen. Husted for role on no tax on tips and no tax on overtime.
“Now, of course, it's also because of President Trump. I'm going to get in trouble. I'm giving John Houston so much credit. I'm going to get a call from the president,” joked Vance.
Hailed Vivek Ramaswamy’s (brief) DOGE role.
After some comments on the Trump administration’s record, Vance went on the attack against former Sen. Sherrod Brown and Rep. Marcy Kaptur
Referenced his grandfather as he attacked Brown.
Said of the midterms: “This election is the most important election of our lifetimes”
And a personal take on his message of reviving US industry:
Closing line after almost exactly 30 mins: “And we need to send a message that America belongs to those who love it, not those who hate it, and so long as the Democrats hate this country, they don't get our vote and they can stay the hell out of Washington.”
VP shook hands on the rope line immediately afterwards.
He had an interaction with a woman wearing a black “Vance 2028” hat.

Now you may not remember this, but in the early days of Doge, the vague saved billions and billions of dollars from going to woke pet projects and do nothing bureaucrats in Washington, and he has promised me that he is going to do the exact same thing from the governor's mansion in Columbus, Ohio.

My Papaw, his entire life, was a Blue Dog Union Democrat. He fought for his jobs. He fought for his coworkers. This was a man who loved his town, who loved his industry and loved the people he stood on with, but Sherrod Brown's voting record shows that he is not the kind of Democrat that JFK was. He's not the kind of Democrat that Mike Patwa or Franklin Roosevelt was. Hell, Sherrod is not even the kind of Democrat that Bill Clinton was.
Said of the midterms: “This election is the most important election of our lifetimes”
And a personal take on his message of reviving US industry:
When I was a young man, when I was a kid driving around in Middletown, Ohio, I would drive around and actually see them put up the signs of factories closing. I would talk to my friends who've learned that their fathers and their mothers had just lost their jobs, and for my entire life, I wonder why do we have politicians who let this happen to us? We know who the senator was back then, Sherrod Brown.
