2019年9月29日，網民發起「全球反極權遊行」，但未有申請不反對通知書。中午，示威者未起步，已在銅鑼灣與警方爆衝突；下午，多名示威者包圍政府總部及特首辦，扔擲汽油彈等；有速龍小隊突襲出現，拘捕多人。
事後，共有96人被控於金鐘道及夏慤道政府總部一帶參與暴動，是反修例事件中的大型檢控之一。96人中，共有68人認罪，27人不認罪，經審訊全被裁定罪成。定罪總人數為95人，餘下一人自2020年8月起缺席聆訊，遭法庭頒下拘捕令；有媒體報道指該被告已乘船偷渡往台灣，其後轉至美國⋯

2024年9月28日，是香港「雨傘運動」爆發十週年。十年前，香港民主派支持者為了爭取一個沒有篩選機制的普選制度，佔領政府總部外的道路，揭開為期79天的佔領運動。
在抗議活動中，金鐘、銅鑼灣和旺角的主要地區被佔領，示威者搭起帳篷並設置路障，2014年9月28日，香港警方在金鐘夏慤道對示威者進行大規模驅散行動，施放自1997年主權移交後的首發催淚彈。
這場運動為香港的公民社會帶來了重大翻轉，激發了年輕人的民主意識與參與政治活動的熱情，但亦加劇了社會群體的分裂，也未換來政府的讓步。
12月15日，警方完全清理了所有的示威營地後，這場運動正式落幕。
