These are some of the captivating tales of the God тАУ Lord Hanuman

1) Hanuman was mischievous in his childhood, and at times teased meditating sages in the forests. Finding his antics unbearable, but realizing that Hanuman was but a child, the sages placed a mild curse on him тАУ due to which he was unable to remember his own ability/powers unless reminded by another person. The curse is highlighted in Kishkindha Kanda and Sundara Kanda when Jambavantha reminds Hanuman of his abilities and encourages him to go and find Sita.

2) Lord Hanuman and Lord Bhima were both brothers. Hanuman is also considered to be the brother of Bhima as they had the same father, Vayu. During the PandavasтАЩ exile, Hanuman appears disguised as a weak and aged monkey to Bhima in order to subdue his arrogance. Hanuman lies with his tail blocking BhimaтАЩs way. Bhima, unaware of his identity, told him to move it out of the way. Hanuman,(in disguise), refuses. Bhima then tries to move the tail himself but he is unable, despite his great strength. Realising he is no ordinary monkey, Bhima then surrenders.

3) A curious tale about HanumanтАЩs hunger is shown to us in the Ramayana. Once during SitaтАЩs exile, Hanuman went to meet her in priest ValmikiтАЩs cottage. Sita was overwhelmed with happiness to see him and cooked many delicacies for Hanuman. She continued to serve him but was soon on the verge of exhaushtion. In despair, she prayed to Lord Ram who advised her to add a Tulsi leaf in the food being served to Hanuman. Since Tulsi is offered to the Lord Rama and Hanuman was an ardent follower of Ram, his hunger finally subsided and he was satiated.

4) Hanuman also had a son named Makardwaja. The story of MakardwajaтАЩs birth is quite an interesting one. Hanuman was sweating profusely when he was flying back over the ocean after the burning of Lanka. A drop of his perspiration fell into the waters and was swallowed by a crocodile/ fish. That was how Makardwaja was conceived.

5) Hanuman with his monkey army was the guard of cave entrance, where Vaishno Devi was meditating for nine months, before she came out of cave. There is a stream called Ban Ganga ( Ban literally means an arrow ), where Devi used her arrow to take out a stream of water from the hill, to quench the thirst of Hanuman when he became thirsty. Hanuman also fought with Bhairavnath before Vaishno Devi asked him to leave Bhairavnath to her.

6) Ram wouldnтАЩt die as Hanuman wouldnтАЩt allow Yama (God of Death) to enter Ayodhya to claim Ram. To divert HanumanтАЩs attention Ram dropped his ring through a crack in the floor and asked Hanuman to fetch it back for him. On his way Hanuman reached the land of serpents and asked their KingтАЩs assistance to search for RamтАЩs ring. The king showed Hanuman a vault filled with rings all of which were RamтАЩs. He told Hanuman that when in the cycle of time, when a Ram is to die he drops a ring down the crac; so that a Hanuman can be diverted from his guard. Caught off guard and deeply saddened Hanuman came back to earth.

Krishna and Balarama take care of devotee. (Part 01/02)

Arjunacharya and his wife were very simple and humble devotees. They lived in a small hut and everyday after his morning duties, he used to go to village and beg for alms.
As a rule he used to visit only three houses and beg alms. He used to accept just enough alms for himself and his wife to live.
He was writing a commentary on Bhagavad Gita and everyday he spent hours reading and writing.
One day he was so engrossed in it that he forgot to go to village for getting food. Since it was already late afternoon, the ladies in the village were resting and there was no spare food even in single house. So he came back empty handed.
Once more he sat to read the Bhagavad Gita. In the ninth chapter verse 22, Lord Krishna says тАУ
ananyaash cintayanto maam ye janaah paryupaasate
teshaam nityaabhiyuktaanaam yoga-kshemam vahaamy aham
тАЬBut those who always worship Me with exclusive devotion, meditating on My transcendental formto them I carry what they lack, and I preserve what they have.тАЭ
Arjunacharya started thinking about the last words deeply and did not find them correct.
How could the Lord say, тАЬvahamya ahamтАЭ тАУ I personally carry ?
He scratched the line тАУ тАЬyoga kshema vahaamyahamтАЭ and then he told his wife that he was going to river for a bath.
Meanwhile two boys ( Krishna and Balarama ) appeared and carried loads of rice, vegetables fruits and butter and handed it over to ArjunacharyaтАЩs wife.
She was surprised and wonder-struck by their beautiful faces and so she asked them who they were.
They introduced themselves as disciples of her husband and that they have brought these provisions as per their order.
She was very thankful and happy that now can cook something for her hungry husband,
When the boys started leaving she saw the scars on the back of their bodies, she was shocked.
She asked them: Who has done this to you oh beautiful boys?
They told her that her husband makes them work very hard and if they did not obey he used to beat them.

Krishna and Balarama take care of devotee. (Part 02/02)

She was not able to believe what they said. But she felt very sad for them and applied sandal wood paste on their backs to relieve the pain and they left immediately.
When Arjunacharya returned home his wife was very angry at him. She even didint wanted to speak to him.
Arjunacharya asked her : Why you do not want to speak to me? Have i hurt you?
No тАУ reply his wife you are bad person. You are hurting small children!
How? asked Arjunacharya.
When he heard what his wife told him, he was able to realize that the two boys were Krishna and Balaram.
He ran inside where his Bhagavad Gita was lying and could see that the pen marks on his shloka had vanished.
He started weeping for doubting the LordтАЩs word and said,тАЭYogakshemam vaahamy aham ! It is true.
You do come personally to save the devotees. Oh ! Please forgive meтАЭ.
His wife felt sad for not having recognized them, though she saw them face to face. But Arjunacharaya was very happy thinking how hsi wife has direct darshan of Krishna and Balarama.
Arjunacharaya consoled her and said, тАЬNow I have understood that there is no difference between Lord Krishna and Bhagavad Gita. By screeching on Bhavgavad gita i was screeching body of the Lord Krishna. And Lord is truth , He takes care of His devotees. He personally carries what they have and provides what they lackтАЭ .
Then they began to chant and glorify the Lord.

(This is real incident which took place in the life of a great devotee called Arjunacharya who lived in South India )

Short Story of Narada Muni and Chitraketu.

Eminent king, Chitraketu had many wives but no son. One day, Maharishi Angiraj landed up in his Raj-Bhawan and saw Chitraketu was unhappy. So Maharshi did a yagya to help the eldest queen, Maharani Kritdhuti conceive. While leaving, Maharishi Angiraj saidтАФ"Chitraketu! You will soon be blessed with a son but he will be the reason for both your happiness and sorrow."

Kritdhuti was soon pregnant with a son. Chitraketu's love for the newborn son was boundless and to be with the son, started spending lots of time with Kritdhuti. This resulted in the neglect of his other wives, who now started feeling jealous of Kritdhuti. Soon, the the younger queens lost their noble senses and consented to quietly poison the child and soon the child died. Shocked, Chitraketu fell unconscious next to the body of his child.

Maharshi Angiraj and Narad Muni appeared. Narad, using his divya shakti, attracted the soul of the child and saidтАФ"See my son! They are your parents and they are mourning for you. Please get into your body, to make them happy and live like a son".

The soul of the child said -

"Devrishi, a soul does not have any family. Many a times I was their father and many times they were mine. All these relations are because of your mortal body and as you leave your mortal remains behind, you also leave behind your relations. And then, everyone is all by himself and has to suffer, as per his karmas". The soul then vanished from the scene.

ChitraketuтАЩs affection after hearing the conversation started fading. Narad, then asked him to worship Lord Shesh Narayan. Soon Chitrakgot his darshan, started on a long pursuit of spiritual knowledge and became a big scholar and was ranked as a Vidyadhar.
