Risk of Cardiorespiratory Events Increases After Severe RSV Infection
https://jamanetwork.com/journals/jama/fullarticle/2845503
Severe respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) infection was associated with a higher risk of cardiorespiratory events in the 2 weeks following hospitalization—and in some cases longer—according to research published in JAMA Network Open. The findings add to the growing body of evidence surrounding long-term consequences of severe RSV infection, similar to other respiratory viruses like SARS-CoV-2.

Diminished Access to Dialysis in Disadvantaged Communities
https://jamanetwork.com/journals/jamainternalmedicine/fullarticle/2844897
Shen and Hsia describe diminished access to dialysis care for persons living in communities with lower socioeconomic status. We applaud the authors’ innovative approach combining information derived from the Area Deprivation Index (ADI) and drive time to and from dialysis centers. Regions were ranked by ADI and grouped into quintiles. More than 1 in 10 of the most disadvantaged communities (11.7%) lacked a dialysis facility within a 30-minute drive compared with roughly 1 in 40 of the least disadvantaged communities (2.3%). The 5-fold difference in access is stark though not surprising.

A New His-Ventricular Threshold for Myotonic Dystrophy Type 1
https://jamanetwork.com/journals/jamacardiology/fullarticle/2845592
To the Editor I read with great interest the article by Clementy et al. Their proposed His–ventricular (HV) interval threshold of 65 or more milliseconds to guide prophylactic pacing presents an intriguing change in myotonic dystrophy type 1 (DM1) management.

A New His-Ventricular Threshold for Myotonic Dystrophy Type 1—Reply
https://jamanetwork.com/journals/jamacardiology/fullarticle/2845591
In Reply We thank Nazari and colleagues for their thoughtful comments on our proposal to use a His-ventricular (HV) interval 65 or more milliseconds to guide prophylactic pacing in myotonic dystrophy type 1 (DM1). Their letter usefully highlights a point that is fundamental to all diagnostic and prognostic prediction, and not specific to our study. For any continuous marker, changing the decision threshold inevitably trades sensitivity against specificity. Nazari and colleagues’ suggestion of a higher threshold call for 3 considerations.
