Christ is on His throne. The Father has not revised a single decree. The Holy Spirit has not grown weary. Every promise of God remains certain because they rest on His unchanging character, not on our unstable circumstances.

So rise with confidence today. Kill sin. Pursue holiness. Love Christ. Proclaim the gospel. Your King reigns, and nothing you face today will ever be greater than the sovereign God who has already ordained the end from the beginning. Soli Deo Gloria!

Satan isn’t our greatest enemy; sin is. Satan has power over people solely because of the sin that dwells in each of us.

WEEK 1 — Warfare & Endurance

Dear Daughter,
Every soldier is eventually relieved of the watch — that is what Sabbath is.

God is not asking you to hold the line forever. He is asking you to trust Him with the night shift.
Rest is not surrender. It is confidence in the Commander.
'He gives rest to those he loves' (Ps 127:2).

What are you still guarding that God is asking you to release today?

Before you argue online, worship.
Before you panic, pray.
Before you speak, hear from God.
Before you correct others, search your own heart.
Before you complain, give thanks.
Before you react, be still.
Before you post, consider your witness.
Before you lead, serve.
Before you fear tomorrow, trust God's promises.
Before you face the world, bow before the King.

If you’re in Christ, your name is permanently written in heaven.

August 10: Love, Praise, Forgiveness

#Devotional

Isaiah 20:1–22:25; Luke 7:36–8:15; Job 5:8–16

Our praise for God is often directly connected to accepting and confessing our brokenness. Our capacity to love Him is tied to the realization of how much He has forgiven us.

The woman in Luke 7 who anointed Jesus’ feet is described with one phrase: She was a sinner. We’re not given clarifying detail, but we do know her sin was notorious and, as a result, she was marginalized by society. She was not only weighed down by her sin; her public identity was grounded in it, and she could not hide it. She knew that she needed to receive forgiveness from the only one who could provide it. Her necessity made her bold: She came to Simon the Pharisee’s house to wash and anoint Jesus’ feet.

Her behavior created quite a spectacle. Simon the Pharisee was quick to condemn her actions and question Jesus’ decision to show her compassion. But Jesus turned the tables on him. While the woman was aware of her brokenness—and was all the more grateful for forgiveness—Simon ran with those who had built up a charade of holiness.

Jesus told Simon, “For this reason I tell you, her sins—which were many—have been forgiven, for she loved much. But the one to whom little is forgiven loves little” (Luke 7:47).

Our praise for Jesus—the way we speak of Him and the way we speak of our sin and forgiveness—is a reflection of the state of our hearts. Because our hearts are inclined to be prideful, it’s often easier for us to defend our sin than to confess it. It’s easier to go about our religious activities while rationalizing our sin. But unless we drop the charade and confess the true state of our hearts, we’ll never honor Him as we should.

Do you “love little”? What holds you back from expressing praise?

August 10 - Reverential Fear

#LifeOfChrist

“But when the crowds saw this, they were awestruck, and glorified God, who had given such authority to men” (Matthew 9:8).

The word rendered “awestruck,” although often translated “fear,” most commonly refers to reverential awe in the New Testament. It is how someone feels who is in the presence of another, infinitely superior person.

“Awestruck” describes the reaction to numerous significant events we read about in the gospels and Acts: the shepherds hearing of Jesus’ birth (Luke 2:9), the apostles when their Lord walked on water (Matt. 14:26), the guards at the tomb when the angels rolled away the stone (Matt. 28:2–4), the people in the early church right after Pentecost (Acts 2:43), and the reaction to the deaths of Ananias and Sapphira (Acts 5:5, 11).

Reverential awe of God is an essential part of the genuine Christian life (see 2 Cor. 7:1, 10–11; Phil. 2:12; 1 Peter 3:2). This attitude must undergird all important aspects of worship, ministry, love, respect, and even biblical church discipline (see 2 Cor. 5:11; Eph. 5:21; 1 Tim. 5:20).

The awe-filled response by most of the people in the crowd as they witnessed what Jesus did for the paralytic was certainly the right one, especially since it resulted in their giving glory to God. Such an attitude should never be far from us as we strive to faithfully worship and serve the Lord (cf. Acts 9:31).

Ask Yourself

How magnificent of a revelation does it take for you to be “awestruck” at God’s splendor and glory? What simple, basic, everyday things are ready examples of His greatness, though disguised as something ordinary and insignificant?
