From Genesis to Revelation, the Bible is the inspired, breathed-out Word of God. Every page speaks with His authority, every promise rests on His faithfulness, and every truth deserves our trust.

Open your Bible today and hear from the God who cannot lie.
The Almighty God who rules the vast clusters of galaxies also rules the details of your life. Nothing today was random. Nothing tomorrow will be outside His hand. "Our God is in the heavens; He does all that He pleases" (Psalm 115:3). Rest in His sovereign, wise, and fatherly providence. Sleep in peace (Psalm 4:8).

Do not be fooled by false teachers who promise health and wealth. Following Jesus will bring persecution, but his grace is always enough to sustain you. Eternal joy awaits those who endure to the end.

One of the most dangerous prayers you can pray is: "Lord, show me where I'm wrong." Because if He does, you will have to choose between your pride and the truth.
❤2
Don't protect your faith by hiding it from hard questions. Protect it by inviting them.

Thoroughly test your theology. Examine your traditions. Question your assumptions. Search the Scriptures daily. Truth has nothing to fear from honest examination.

"Test everything; hold fast what is good."
- 1 Thessalonians 5:21

Jesus Christ is building His church, and the gates of hell will not prevail against it.

Christians must avoid these manners of speech:

• Speaking lies or "half-truths"
• Sharing gossip about others
• Complaining about your hard times
• Using coarse/dirty jokes

We do not pray to win God’s favor; we pray because we already have it in Christ.

Heaven is not a reward for good people who tried their best. Heaven is a gift for broken sinners who put their faith in Jesus Christ. You cannot earn your way into eternal life.

August 23: God the Innovator

#Devotional

Isaiah 45:14–47:15; Luke 18:9–19:10; Job 10:11–22

Innovators often say they learn more from their failures than their successes. The successes come as a result of repeated failures, whether in business or in life. We must learn from our mistakes if we are to expect a different, brighter future.

God expects us to learn from our failures—the depths of which we can best understand in comparison to the glory of His successes. God speaks about Himself not only to remind people of His abilities, but also to explain where His authority begins and theirs ends.

In Isaiah 45:1–2, God gave Cyrus a lesson in these boundaries—both by what He said and by what He did not say. Like other kings of the time, Cyrus would have thought himself godlike, but God’s detailed description of what He was about to do left Cyrus with no doubt about who was in charge:

“And I will give you the treasures of darkness and treasures of secret places so that you may know that I am Yahweh, the one who calls you by your name, the God of Israel, for the sake of my servant Jacob, and Israel my chosen one. And I call you by your name; I give you a name of honor, though you do not know me” (Isa 45:3–4).

From Cyrus’ perspective, he had all authority and could accomplish all things. He did not yet know the Master Innovator who can reverse any situation and honor any person as an instrument in accomplishing His larger plan—to restore His people. God blessed Cyrus with wealth so that it would be easy for him to help God’s people. God exercised authority over the economy to create a new spiritual economy. Cyrus may have pointed to his achievements, but God had enabled them all.

As God created the circumstances for Cyrus to succeed—and for His people to be blessed—He also showed the Israelites His perspective on failure and success. In His power and compassion, He could work in difficult and unexpected ways to bring about their redemption, despite their many failures. The Israelites may have gotten themselves into a horrible situation, but God could make a way to get them out.

What innovations is God making in your life story? In the process, is He teaching you to completely depend on Him?

August 23 - Jesus Touches an Untouchable

#LifeOfChrist

“A woman who had been suffering from a hemorrhage for twelve years, came up behind Him and touched the fringe of His cloak; for she was saying to herself, ‘If I only touch His garment, I will get well.’ But Jesus turning and seeing her said, ‘Daughter, take courage; your faith has made you well.’ At once the woman was made well” (Matthew 9:20–22).

When the godly Sir James Simpson was on his deathbed, a friend said to him, “Well, James, soon you will be able to rest on the bosom of Jesus.” But Simpson replied, “I don’t know that I can quite do that, but I do think I can take hold of His garment.”

In her shame at being ostracized from her family and being ceremonially unclean, the woman here wanted to be unnoticed. She merely desired to touch Jesus’ garment, confident that such contact was enough to receive healing. In keeping with such confidence, she received immediate healing from her defilement.

Our Lord became aware of what had happened only as He realized that divine power had gone out from Him (Luke 8:46)—a realization that happened before He humanly knew of the woman specifically. His statement, “your faith has made you well,” simply assured her and the crowd that miraculous healing had occurred. Jesus did not care that her touching Him would make Him ceremonially unclean to the Jews. The Lord was touchable even by an untouchable.

Even though the woman’s expectations were likely not fully informed by Scripture—she might have superstitiously thought Christ’s clothes had inherent healing powers—He spoke to her caringly and compassionately: “Daughter, take courage.” In spite of other factors, the woman’s faith was genuine and acceptable to the Lord. It was enough to make her well.

Ask Yourself

Part of the balance of Christian faith is realizing that we are unworthy to touch the hem of His garment, yet are welcomed into His full embrace as an adopted member of His family. How do these two seeming incongruities come together and balance out in your worship?

The world says: "Follow your dreams."

Jesus says: "Follow Me."

WEEK 3 — Suffering, Healing & Presence

Dear Daughter,
The oil that Mary poured out was costly precisely because it could not be undone. Worship, real worship, costs you something you cannot take back.

Bring your whole story — the healed and the still-healing — into His presence today.
He is not repelled by your wounds. He collects them.
'You keep track of all my sorrows… you have collected all my tears' (Ps 56:8).

What sorrow have you not yet brought into worship?

7 Things Christians Should Never Be Ashamed Of:

1. The Gospel (Romans 1:16)
2. The words of Christ (Mark 8:38)
3. Biblical holiness (1 Peter 1:15-16)
4. God's design for marriage (Matt. 19:4-6)
5. The authority of Scripture (2 Tim. 3:16)
6. The exclusivity of Christ (John 14:6)
7. Standing apart from the world (Romans 12:2)

Truth does not become embarrassing because the culture rejects it.
