Dear Daughter,
A fig tree that only grows leaves and never fruit looks alive from a distance β€” but Jesus cursed exactly that kind of tree.

Don't let your marriage become all appearance and no substance. Ask if the leaves β€” the image, the photos, the reputation β€” match the fruit.
Substance over show, always.
'May no fruit ever come from you again' (Matt 21:19).

Where might your marriage have more leaves than fruit right now?

In Christ alone, my hope is found
He is my light, my strength, my song
This Cornerstone, this solid ground
Firm through the fiercest drought and storm

You can reject Jesus Christ. You can mock Jesus Christ. You can ignore Jesus Christ. But you will never make Jesus Christ stop being Lord.

Before you leave your local church because someone offended you...

Remember: The church is a family of redeemed sinners.

People are going to disappoint you.
People can misunderstand you.
People may sin against you.

Yes, sometimes leaving is necessary.

But sometimes staying, forgiving, and working toward reconciliation is obedience.

What to do when your kids aren't walking with Jesus:

-Pray without ceasing.
-Remember that God loves them
even more than you do.
-Don't compromise your faith,
but also don't argue about it.
-Don't burn a bridge,
so they have a path back.
-Point to Jesus when possible.

People: β€œI was born this way.”
Jesus: β€œYou must be born again.”

To be ashamed of Jesus means to be so fearful of being shamed for Jesus that you don’t stand up for Jesus.

Believers, do not let bitterness take root in your heart when others hurt you.

"Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you" (Eph. 4:32).

September 16: Freedom and Response

#Devotional

Micah 4:1–6:16; Acts 14:8–15:21; Job 23:1–17

Freedom from sin gives us the power to love. But freedom from poverty or oppression or guilt sometimes makes us complacent. We forget our inclination to wander away from God’s will and pursue our own, and we overlook that God will eventually call us to account. Although Micah prophesied during a time of prosperity in Israel, it was also a time of spiritual deficiency. The powerful were oppressing the weak (Mic 2:1–2; 3:2–3) politically and economically.

Micah holds Israel to account in this passage. The prophet paints a courtroom scene with God judging His people for their unfaithfulness: β€œHe has told you, O mortal, what is good, and what does Yahweh ask from you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?” (Mic 6:8).

The mountains and the hills listen as Yahweh accuses Israel, and the evidence He presents is startling. God has been active and present in His people’s lives, turning what was meant for evil into good. He brought Israel out of slavery in Egypt. When Balaam tried to curse Israel on behalf of Balak, the Moabite king, God turned that curse into blessing.

We know where we stand in the courtroom drama. Our sins condemn us, but God has provided new evidence that changes our fates. What prosecuting attorney becomes a defender of the accusedβ€”a mediator claiming their cause? Through His Son, God frees us from our sin. Indeed, we should say with awe and humility, β€œWho is a God like you?”

Our story should be a response of humility and love for God. What story will your life tell?

September 16 - The Significance of Jesus at Cana

#LifeOfChrist

β€œOn the third day there was a wedding in Cana of Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was there; and both Jesus and His disciples were invited to the wedding” (John 2:1–2).

A wedding was a major social event in first-century Palestine, and the ensuing celebration could last as long as a week. It marked the culmination of the betrothal period, which often lasted for several months. The couple was considered legally man and wife during their betrothal period. They did not, however, live together or consummate the marriage during that time (cf. Matt. 1:18). On the night of the ceremony, the groom and his friends would go to the bride’s house. They would then escort her and her attendants to the groom’s house, where the ceremony and banquet would be held.

John states that a particular wedding was held in Cana. That both Jesus and His mother attended suggests the wedding involved relatives or friends of the family.

By attending this wedding and performing His first miracle there, Jesus sanctified both the institution of marriage and the ceremony itself. Marriage is the sacred union of a man and a woman whereby they become one in the sight of God. The ceremony is an essential element of that union, because that’s when the couple publicly vow to remain faithful to each other.

That Jesus attended the celebration also reveals the marked difference between His ministry and that of John the Baptist. Instead of being a voice in the wilderness, Jesus had the more difficult task of mingling with the crowds and ministering to them in their daily existence.

Ask Yourself

Does your faith travel with you into social settings like this? When your time is your own, when the conversation is light, when you feel a long way from the workweek or the usual pressures of life, are you still looking for opportunities to be used of God and helpful to others?
β€œWhen the Lord has finished all his work on Mount Zion and on Jerusalem, he will punish the speech of the arrogant heart of the king of Assyria and the boastful look in his eyes.” Isaiah 10:12

The Lord hates arrogance.

Democrat and Republican.

Conservative and liberal.

Rich and poor.

β€œWe are God’s house, if indeed we hold fast the confidence and boast of our hope.” Hebrews 3:6

Future faithfulness confirms present reality.

β€œWe have come to share in Christ, if indeed we hold our original confidence firm to the end.” Hebrews 3:14

If you have scripture in your social media profile, but you also list your "preferred pronouns"... It makes it appear that you don’t actually believe Scripture, but cave to cultural pressure.

You don't have "preferred pronouns". You are who God says, not what you "prefer".

For witness sake... Time to remove them. No one is playing the silly pronoun game anymore.

Dear Daughter,

Love, joy, peace, patience β€” the fruit does not grow one at a time on separate branches. One Spirit, one harvest, many flavors.
If patience is growing in your marriage, watch β€” kindness and gentleness are usually not far behind. Fruit clusters.
Growth in one area often unlocks another.

'The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace…' (Gal 5:22-23).
Which fruit is growing in your marriage right now that you hadn't noticed?
