No matter where we are or what our day looks like, we can keep our hearts focused on the hope we have in Jesus - and that’s always worth singing about. 🙌

“Oh my friends, we are loaded down with countless church activities, while the real work of the church, that of evangelizing the world and winning the lost, is almost entirely neglected!”—Oswald J. Smith

Sadly, too many leaders, schools, & denominations have taken the same destructive path when leaving the faith:
1) Question the inerrancy & authority of Scripture.
2) Begin to compromise their stance on sexual sin.
3) Challenge the validity of Jesus & penal substitutionary atonement.
4) Ascribe to some form of Universalism, deny the existence of a literal Hell, & completely leave anything that looks like true Biblical faith.
Don't trust leaders that don't trust the Bible, because they're always heading somewhere destructive!

Dear Daughter,
Friday riddle: what does ripened fruit know that green fruit resents? That waiting was never wasted time.
Tonight, celebrate a place your marriage has finally ripened — a patience, a wound, an old argument, now sweet instead of bitter.
Some things simply needed time, not more effort.
'Everything is beautiful in its time' (Eccl 3:11).
What has finally ripened in your marriage that once felt unripe and bitter?

“The plans of the heart belong to man,
but the answer of the tongue is from the Lord. . . .
The heart of man plans his way,
but the Lord establishes his steps.” Proverbs 16:1, 9
The human will is essential, not decisive.

Salvation is not a reward for good people. There are no good people because everyone has sinned (Rom. 3:10-12). We are saved by grace alone through faith in Christ.

If you need a word from God, then go to the Word of God. When the Bible speaks, God speaks.

There are no "ex-Christians".
Many falsely think that believing that God exists, or attending a church building makes you a Christian.
Therefore, people think you "leave Christianity", because you stop doing those things.
However, being a real Christian means you've been saved by Jesus, & have been in-dwelt and sealed by the Holy Spirit.
If that never happened to you, then you never were a Christian to begin with.

September 19: Honestly Questioning God
#Devotional
Habakkuk 1:1–2:5; Acts 17:1–34; Job 25:1–6
Many people are afraid to be honest with God—which is odd, considering that He already knows what we’re thinking. The biblical authors certainly told God how they felt, and they did so eloquently and often.
The prophet Habakkuk remarked, “O Yahweh, how long shall I cry for help and you will not listen? How long will I cry out to you, ‘Violence!’ and you will not save?” (Hab 1:1–2). Habakkuk felt that God was not answering his prayers—that God was ignoring his petitions. He reminded God of the desperate need for His intercession. In doing so, Habakkuk reminds us that wrestling with God is a healthy and necessary component of following Him.
Habakkuk went on to make more desperate, even angry, pleas: “Why do you cause me to see evil while you look at trouble? Destruction and violence happen before me; contention and strife arise. Therefore the law is paralyzed, and justice does not go forth perpetually. For the wicked surround the righteous; therefore justice goes forth perverted” (Hab 1:3–4). Habakkuk’s honest questions reveal the state of his heart. He was not afraid to tell God what he felt because he understood that God already knew. He also believed that God could be persuaded to intercede.
Yet it’s not language or skillful rhetoric that causes God to intercede—after all, He is a free being who can do what He wills, and He will not be manipulated. God wants to use us for His work, and He longs for us to acknowledge what He is doing. When we pray, God listens; when God acts in response to our prayers, we know that it is His work. We must pray honestly, and we must acknowledge God’s rightful place and acts.
What are you praying about? What are you honestly confessing to God?

September 19 - The Significance of Temple Cleansing
#LifeOfChrist
“The Passover of the Jews was near, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem. And He found in the temple those who were selling oxen and sheep and doves, and the money changers seated at their tables. And He made a scourge of cords, and drove them all out of the temple, with the sheep and the oxen; and He poured out the coins of the money changers and overturned their tables; and to those who were selling the doves He said, ‘Take these things away; stop making My Father’s house a place of business.’ His disciples remembered that it was written, ‘Zeal for Your house will consume me’” (John 2:13–17).
The Feast of Passover in Jerusalem each year meant big business for Jerusalem-based merchants. They sold animals necessary for the sacrifices at inflated prices to Jewish pilgrims who found it impractical to bring their own from their homes in distant lands.
Also, every Jewish male twenty years of age or older had to pay the annual temple tax (Matt. 17:24–27). But it could be paid only by using Jewish or Tyrian coins, so foreigners had to exchange their money for acceptable coinage. Because they held a monopoly, money changers charged an exorbitant fee.
What should have been a place of sacred reverence and adoration had become a place of abusive commerce and excessive overpricing.
Realizing that the purity of temple worship was a matter of honor to God, Jesus took swift and decisive action. The intensity of His righteous indignation was unmistakable—Christ would not tolerate any mockery of the spirit of true worship.
Ask Yourself
Are there instances in which we have turned the worship of God into something less than it should be—perhaps into something it should never be? What kind of heart do you intend to bring with you the next time you join with others in the Lord’s house for worship?
