πͺ Q9 Commentary: The Divine Calculation of Real Sacrifice
π― Correct Answer: A
β’ π The Scriptural Blueprint: Luke 21:4 (ESV) records Jesus' observation, βFor they all contributed out of their abundance, but she out of her poverty put in all she had to live on.β
β’ π‘ The Theological Insight: Our Lord calculates the spiritual value of an offering by what a person retains, not merely by what they drop into the box. The wealthy gave vast sums out of an excess that cost them nothing in terms of security or lifestyle. The widowβs two copper coins represented total, vulnerable dependence upon the providence of a Sovereign God. Her gift was a stinging rebuke to the superficiality of the corrupt religious elite.
β οΈ Strategy Breakdown: Options B and C loaded up modern evangelical idioms regarding "pure motives" to capture voters relying on emotional assumptions.

π― Correct Answer: D
β’ π The Scriptural Blueprint: 1 Timothy 6:6 (ESV) provides the definitive formula: βBut godliness with contentment is great gain.β
β’ π‘ The Theological Insight: Paul ruthlessly deconstructs the false teaching that faith is a tool for material advancement. He presents a spiritual net worth immune to worldly markets. When an internal life fully anchored in the truth of Christ (godliness) merges with absolute peace regarding current material limits (contentment), the believer holds an enduring wealth that money cannot buy or destroy.

October 13: The Last Person You Would Expect
#Devotional
Ezekiel 26:1β27:36; Revelation 13:1β10; Job 36:13β23
Yahweh is capable of doing anything and everything He pleases. If He were not a good God, this would be deeply frightening, but considering His wonderful character, this is comforting.
In Ezekiel 26:1β6, Yahweh describes the sins of Tyre and His plans against the powerful Phoenician city-state. The people of Tyre are arrogant. They do as they please, usually to the detriment of other people. Yahweh refuses to put up with this any longer. When He finally destroys Tyre, He does it through unexpected means: Nebuchadnezzar, king of the Neo-Babylonian empire from 605β562 bc. Despite Nebuchadnezzarβs cruel and ruthless nature, Yahweh uses him to enact punishment on Tyre (Ezek 26:7).
Stories like this make me wonder how written prophecy would look today. How often would we see God use people without their realizing it? How many evil-hearted people have been used for a larger and better purpose?
Weβre never really certain how God is acting. We learn bits of information through prayer and the Bible, but only He knows what outcome He will produce. We know the trajectoryβChristβs full reign on earth and the admonishment of evil (e.g., the destruction of the beast in Rev 13:1β10)βbut we donβt know precisely how that will play out.
There is no easy answer to this perplexing question, but what is certain is that Yahweh will ultimately carry out His will in the world. And His will might come in unexpected ways. No one can know the mind of God but God Himself. So when we pray, letβs pray for the miracle, not for the means.
How do you perceive God acting in your life and the lives of others? What miracle should you be praying for?

October 13 - Miracle at Bethesda
#LifeOfChrist
βAfter these things there was a feast of the Jews, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem. Now there is in Jerusalem by the sheep gate a pool, which is called in Hebrew Bethesda, having five porticoes. In these lay a multitude of those who were sick, blind, lame, and withered, waiting for the moving of the waters; for an angel of the Lord went down at certain seasons into the pool and stirred up the water; whoever then first, after the stirring up of the water, stepped in was made well from whatever disease with which he was afflicted. A man was there who had been ill for thirty-eight years. When Jesus saw him lying there, and knew that he had already been a long time in that condition, He said to him, βDo you wish to get well?β The sick man answered Him, βSir, I have no man to put me into the pool when the water is stirred up, but while I am coming, another steps down before me.β Jesus said to him, βGet up, pick up your pallet and walk.β Immediately the man became well, and picked up his pallet and began to walkβ (John 5:1β9).
This miracle perfectly illustrates Godβs sovereign grace in action. Out of all the sick people at the pool, Jesus chose to heal this one man. There was nothing about him that made him more deserving than the others, nor did he seek out Jesus; Jesus approached him. The Lord did not choose him because He foresaw that he had the faith to believe; he never did express belief that Jesus could heal him.
It is the same way in salvation. Out of the spiritually dead multitude of Adamβs fallen race, God chose and redeemed His electβnot because of anything they did to deserve it, or because of their foreseen faith, but because of His sovereign choice.
Ask Yourself
Be on the lookout for people in needβthose you meet in very random encounters, as well as those you know well, people you see on a fairly routine basis. Wherever possible, be part of bringing hope and compassion to those who think no one really cares about them. Understand that you represent Jesusβ love and mercy everywhere you go.

WEEK 3 β Hidden Preparation (Oct 12β18)
13. October 13 (Tuesday)
Dear Daughter,
A sculptor removes marble no one will ever see was there β the hidden cuts shape what the world eventually calls beautiful.
Let God remove things from your character in private that no one but your husband will ever know were even issues.
Private formation shapes public grace.
'He who began a good work in you will carry it on' (Phil 1:6).
What private work is God doing in you that your marriage is quietly benefiting from?
