October 31: Speaking the Truth
#Devotional
Daniel 11:1β12:12; 2 Thessalonians 3:1β18; Job 42:10β17
βAnd now I will reveal the truth to youβ (Dan 11:2). How much better would our world be if more of us were willing to take this kind of standβto make these kinds of statements?
The truth Daniel refers to are the prophecies foretelling what will happen in the Persian Empire. Great power and wealth are coming, and with them comes the fear of how that power and wealth may be used. If we read between the lines of the prophetβs statements in Dan 11, we can feel the trepidation. He is concerned that wickedness will once again sweep over the land.
Such was the case for Paul: βPray for us, that the word of the Lord may progress and be honored β¦ and that we may be delivered from evil and wicked people, for not all have the faithβ (2 Thess 3:1β2). Paul was aware that unbelievers would seek his life. He wasnβt sure what the future would look like. We can imagine the fear that he must have felt, wondering, βWhat is next? What is coming? Who is my friend? Who is my enemy?β
If you have ever been in a situation where it seems you have more enemies than friends, you know that speaking the truth becomes increasingly difficult over time. The prophecies in Dan 11 suggest a time like this, and Paulβs words tell us that life for the early Christians was uncertain. Many Christians today lead relatively safe and easy lives. For Christians in some parts of the world, though, Paulβs situation is far too familiar. But no matter our present situation, we must boldly speak the truth.
What is God asking you to say?

October 31 - Difficult Circumstances for John
#LifeOfChrist
βNow when John, while imprisoned, heard of the works of Christ, he sent word by his disciples and said to Him, βAre You the Expected One, or shall we look for someone else?ββ (Matthew 11:2β3).
John the Baptist was a true saint and prophet of God, unreserved in His divine service. He had ministered precisely according to Godβs will, but now he couldnβt help wondering why he was imprisoned and enduring other hardships.
He knew the Old Testament and maybe asked where the God of comfort (Ps. 119:50; Isa. 51:12) was at that time. Where was the promise that Messiah would βbind up the brokenhearted . . . proclaim liberty to captives and freedom to prisonersβ (Isa. 61:1)?
Paul was also imprisoned, likely in Rome, when he wrote, βRejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice! Let your gentle spirit be known to all men. The Lord is near. Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesusβ (Phil. 4:4β7; cf. vv. 11β13, 19).
John knew where to find answers, even in the midst of doubt. Thatβs why he sent his disciples to Jesus to plead, βLord, please help me!β And Christ was glad to respond, performing miracles for Johnβs sake and promising spiritual blessing if he remained steady.
Difficult circumstances can be stressful and painful, but our attitude and response should be like Johnβsβand Paulβsβtrusting in the Lord to calm our doubts, anxieties, and fears (cf. James 1:2β12).
Ask Yourself
What causes some to be secure and steadfast no matter their circumstances, while others really struggle to keep their faith front and center? How are you preparing your heart to stay strong in the inevitable seasons of conflict to come?

31. October 31 (Saturday β Reformation Day, Month's Close)
Dear Daughter,
On this day, one man nailed ninety-five honest questions to a door and changed the Church forever β not by rebellion, but by return.
Let October close the way reformation always should: not with anger at what's broken, but with hope for what can be restored.
Your marriage, like the Church, is always semper reformanda β always being reformed.
'Create in me a clean heart, O God' (Ps 51:10).
What is one honest thing your marriage needs to return to, restore, or reform before November begins?

Oct 31 (Sat) β RIDDLE-ORACLE
"The Veil Torn and the Way Made Plain"
At the moment Christ breathed His last, the temple veil β sixty feet of woven wool separating sinful man from the Holy of Holies β tore in two, top to bottom, by a hand no priest could reach (Matt 27:51). Top to bottom is the detail that unravels the whole riddle: no human tore it from beneath. It was opened from ABOVE, by the very One it had kept hidden. What sin had sealed shut for a thousand years, love ripped open in a single moment. βοΈπ₯
Consider what the veil had always meant: not merely a curtain, but a wall built from necessary distance, a reminder that closeness with the Holy required something to die first. Every marriage carries its own veils β the walls built after old wounds, the careful distance kept "for safety," the parts of the heart that stay hidden because opening them once cost too much. Some of those veils were reasonable once. But Calvary asks whether they are still necessary, or whether Someone has already torn a way through that you haven't yet walked into. π
And notice this: the veil was torn, not folded neatly and set aside. It could never be repaired to look as it once did β the old way of relating to God through distance was finished, not paused. Perhaps some walls in your covenant were never meant to be patched back together after they're torn, only walked through, into a nearness that no longer requires the old caution. ποΈβ¨
β What veil β distance, old caution, a wall built after old pain β has love already torn, that you're still living as though it stands?
β What would it look like to walk into the nearness Calvary already opened, rather than repair the curtain?
Let us search the Word together and step through what has already been torn.
