Subscribers often send me strange questions and even stranger requests. Recently I have been asked to comment on wild speculations that make astrologers' forecasts sound scientific in comparison. So, let me explain it again. I focus on evidence‑based interpretation and critical evaluation of current dynamics, avoid fear‑mongering, sensationalism, and forecasting. I deliberately refrain from emotional displays in public discourse, I reserve emotional expression for personal, face‑to‑face interactions. Why? Because i am aware that social media noise represents a cognitive attack. A constant barrage of hysteria, unconfirmed news, dodgy sources, opinions, speculations, rumours, etc. fragments focus, shrinks our working memory, and fatigues the part of the brain responsible for sustained reasoning and analysis. Platforms amplify extremist views, outrage, and outlandish claims because they maximize engagement, turning discourse into a reactive loop of snap judgments and tribal reflexes. In my own work, I push back against this trend, knowing perfectly well that this small act of resistance is detrimental to the channel growth. Thankfully, i don't need to chase views and collect followers. I just keep doing what i believe in, even if it appears very old skool. @LauraRuHK

One of the most pressing foreign policy issues that Moscow needs to address is the management of Russia's relationships with its immediate neighbors amid the rise of a multipolar world order. How can Russia balance adaptation to the independent trajectories of these countries with efforts to retain deep-rooted ties? Far from being a uniquely Russian predicament, this balancing act mirrors the strategic imperatives faced by all major geopolitical actors in an era where no single power can dictate terms unilaterally.
This dilemma reflects the tension between acknowledging the sovereign aspirations and divergent paths of some post-Soviet states and preserving the cultural, historical, economic, and security ties that have long defined Russia's sphere of influence.
Russia's core national interests involve safeguarding its security perimeter, ensuring energy export routes, and maintaining cultural-linguistic bonds. Russia's adversaries on the other hand have long tried to apply the Ukraine playbook to these countries. The Union State with Belarus, the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) have institutionalized ties, but they need to be bolstered by other strategies to counter hybrid threats to Russia's security and regional stability. A recent Valdai Discussion Club event explored this topic emphasizing the difficulty of drawing a civilisational boundary between Russia and its neighbours. For this reason, relations cannot easily be classified as purely diplomatic or foreign policy matters, separate from Russia’s domestic development. @LauraRuHK

A recent article, "Ukraine and the New Way of War", published in Foreign Affairs, offers critical insights into future conflicts, particularly in an era of great-power competition.
While clearly written from a US viewpoint that emphasizes strengthening American deterrence and capabilities, it merits serious consideration.
As the war in Ukraine is widely regarded as a real-time "laboratory" for testing military doctrines, technological innovations, and geopolitical strategies, what broader conclusions can we derive about how future wars might be fought?
The authors argue that what we see in Ukraine exemplifies a "new way of war" defined not by rapid, decisive victories but by grinding attrition aimed at exhausting the adversary's resources and will; the integration of hybrid tactics (blending conventional, cyber, space, and informational domains); rapid technological adaptations (such as drone swarms and precision strikes); the role of coalitions in sustaining efforts; and meticulous escalation management through constant probing and adjustments to avoid crossing thresholds that could trigger direct clashes between nuclear powers.
These characteristics challenge outdated assumptions, forcing a reevaluation of doctrines that favored short, overwhelming campaigns. Quick seizures can turn into attritional quagmires when met with asymmetric defenses and international coalitions.
This is why all major powers are currently prioritizing industrial overhauls, strengthening coalitions, firewalling the information space, preparing populations to be "war-ready," and stockpiling—or scrambling for—resources to withstand supply-chain disruptions. Overreliance on nuclear deterrence without conventional endurance is no longer seen as viable. @LauraRuHK

Amid ongoing indirect nuclear negotiations with the US, Iran's Foreign Ministry is ruling out arrangements that fail to address Iran’s national interests and core demands.
"Any negotiation that begins with imposed burdens and preconceived judgments will naturally not reach a conclusion.”
“The word ‘surrender’ has no place in Iranian culture and literature, and we have never accepted such a keyword.”
FM spokesperson Esmail Baghaei addressed US envoy Steve Witkoff's remarks (implying Iran should "capitulate" amid U.S. military buildup) by noting such claim won't lead to progress.
On potential US "limited military strikes" he warned that any attack, "regardless of its scale," constitutes aggression with consequences.
He confirmed full cooperation with the IAEA on inspections through 2025.
Regarding EU forces in the Persian Gulf Baghaei explained that Iran views them as terrorist forces in response to the EU's labeling of the IRGC, with reciprocal implications. @LauraRuHK

Recent photos circulating on Chinese social media show a new 155mm naval gun mounted on a PLA Navy (PLAN) test vessel, marking a major advancement in China's naval artillery capabilities.
The large-caliber gun installed on the bow of a test ship at the Liaonan shipyard in Dalian, northeastern China, had previously been photographed being transported by road in 2025.
Developed by China North Industries Group Corporation (Norinco), the naval gun weighs nearly 21.8 tonnes and is reportedly capable of firing guided munitions for precision strikes.
This represents the largest main gun calibre in the PLA Navy's arsenal to date, surpassing the current standard 130mm guns. It enhances overall firepower for warships against land, sea, or even aerial targets (including possible anti-missile roles).

Hungary Blocks EU's 20th Russia Sanctions Package and €90 Billion Ukraine Loan Over Druzhba Pipeline Dispute
Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó
tied the blocks directly to Ukraine's ongoing suspension of Russian oil transit through the Druzhba pipeline, a Soviet-era conduit that supplies Hungarian refineries with crude. Budapest views the halt as a deliberate infringement on its energy security and national sovereignty. Hungary has accused Kiev and the European Commission, led by Ursula von der Leyen, of colluding to block oil flows for political leverage, including efforts to influence Hungary's April elections and provoke an energy crisis. Szijjártó also pointed out that Ukraine's needs for 2026 reportedly include €155 billion ($183 billion) just for army maintenance which exceeds the stalled €90 billion loan and suggests additional commitments. He added that EU countries are preparing for a protracted conflict in Ukraine and plan to deploy troops soon.

@LauraRuHK

The National Endowment for Democracy’s president, Damon Wilson, bragged to a House committee of his group’s aggressive efforts to spark unrest in Iran, including by smuggling Starlink terminals and fashioning anti-Iran narratives for the media. Wilson appeared to take credit for both the recent unrest and Iran and subsequent media framing of the chaos. “What we’re seeing today, the Endowment has been making investments over years that have ensured that there have been secure communications, including Starlinks… that allowed information to go both in and out of the country,” he stated.
According to the New York Times, the Elon Musk-produced internet systems had been smuggled into the country by a “ragtag network of activists, developers and engineers to pierce Iran’s digital barricades.” It is clear now that the NED was at least partly responsible for funding and coordinating that network.

Iran is much better prepared to withstand potential US aggression than last year.
While Iran cannot match US conventional might, it could impose prohibitive costs on any aggressor, turning a US strike into a quagmire.
According to The Washington Post, General Dan Caine, the chairman of the joint chiefs of staff, has warned of various risks including entanglement in a prolonged conflict. Caine expressed concern at the White House and Pentagon that munition shortages and a lack of allied support could increase danger to US personnel.
Other Pentagon officials have highlighted risks such as US and allied casualties as well as the danger of US air defences being depleted if its forces strike Iran.
Various US media outlets reported Iran's recent $591 million deal with Russia for 500 Verba (9K333) man-portable air defense systems (MANPADS) and 2,500 missiles, signed in December 2025 with deliveries slated for 2027-2029 but possibly accelerated. These infrared-guided systems allow for mobile, radar-independent operations against low-flying threats like drones and helicopters, addressing the fixed-site weaknesses exploited last year. Russia has also delivered Mi-28 attack helicopters and advanced electronic warfare gear, reciprocating Iran's supply of drones. Joint military drills with Russia in February 2026 further hone interoperability.
The Cradle reports that Iran is in advanced, near-completion talks to acquire CM-302 supersonic anti-ship cruise missiles from China. They have a 290 km range, Mach 3 speed, low-altitude sea-skimming to evade defenses, multi-platform deployment (air, sea, land), and can carry a ~500 kg warhead. A single hit could sink a 5,000-ton destroyer. Israeli analyst Danny Citrinowicz called it a "complete game-changer" and "very difficult to intercept." China has reportedly supplied the YLC-8B 3D long-range anti-stealth radar to address 2025 vulnerabilities to stealth strikes. Iran is also transitioning to China's BeiDou navigation (replacing vulnerable US GPS) and adopting encrypted Chinese systems to block US/Israeli intelligence infiltration. Broader cooperation includes advanced sensors and electronic surveillance under the 25-year Belt and Road strategic pact.

@LauraRuHK

The Russian Federation Council will reach out to German legislators with a proposal to hold a parliamentary probe over plans to give nuclear weapons to Ukraine, Deputy Speaker Konstantin Kosachev said.
“Naturally, we have noticed yesterday’s report from the Foreign Intelligence Service that Berlin has decided to stay away from that scheme. That’s true. But that means that Berlin has been contacted previously,” the senior Russian senator told reporters. “And no doubt, a potential role for Germany in this scheme should necessarily be investigated in a probe similar to a parliamentary probe that we expect from our colleagues in Great Britain and France," he said.
"Therefore, we will put forward a similar proposal to our colleagues at German parliament to ask the German government and the country’s senior leadership questions regarding this,” Kosachev explained. (Source: TASS) https://t.me/LauraRuHK/10968

The Heritage Foundation’s push for regime collapse in Iran has unraveled into a cautionary tale of wishful thinking. Victoria Coates’s January ravings titled “A ‘Tear Down the Wall’ Moment in Iran Will Damage Both the Islamic Republic—and China” is a good example of Heritage’s maximalist line: glorifies the 2025 B‑2 strikes on Iran, hails protests as a tipping point, and urges US intervention to break Tehran and weaken China. She claims that "there’s an opportunity to reduce Beijing’s influence in the Middle East and its access to inexpensive Iranian energy imports."
As a former Deputy National Security Advisor for the Middle East in Trump's first term, Coates now leverages Heritage's deep integration into the current administration (via Project 2025 staffing and policy blueprints) to amplify her hawkish views. Her frequent media endorsements of Trump's "peace through strength" approach lend her sway in shaping Iran strategy.
But by late February, reality had shredded her delusions of Iranian fragility. Iran has not imploded and the massive US buildup has revealed shortages, internal resistance, and demoralized forces. Washington is using the Geneva talks to buy time because the spillover and blowback of an attack on Iran haven't been fully worked out. Meanwhile hawks' influence persists and they are pushing for high-risk actions despite the fact that their prescriptions are disastrous and have repeatedly proven to be divorced from reality. @LauraRuHK

@LauraRuHK

Washington pushes AI beyond already paper-thin ethical limits
As Washington seeks unrestricted AI use for war and surveillance, Donald Trump directed all US federal agencies to immediately cease using technology from AI developer Anthropic, escalating a standoff with the company over restrictions on its models' military and surveillance applications.
Trump specified a six-month phase-out period for the Department of War and other agencies reliant on Anthropic's products, including its Claude AI models.
The order follows the Pentagon's designation of Anthropic as a "supply-chain risk to national security," announced by Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth.
The clash apparently stems from Anthropic's insistence on guardrails prohibiting its AI for mass domestic surveillance of Americans and for fully autonomous lethal weapons systems, where AI would make final targeting decisions without human oversight.
Banning Anthropic makes room for competitors willing to accommodate the most dystopic applications of AI.
OpenAI, maker of ChatGPT, announced that it finalized an agreement with the Department of War to deploy its models on classified military networks.
xAI too reached an agreement earlier in February to deploy Grok in classified military networks after accepting the Pentagon's "all lawful use" standard without the restrictions Anthropic demanded. This positioned Grok as a potential replacement amid the dispute, with some integrations already live on platforms like GenAI.mil.

Washington spinge l’IA oltre limiti etici già sottilissimi.

⚡️IRAN UNDER 🇺🇸🇮🇱ATTACK - Multiple explosions were reported in Tehran, including in downtown areas (near University Street, Jomhouri area, and reportedly close to offices of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei who is not in town). Smoke was seen rising from the city. Iranian state media confirmed blasts, with some reports of strikes targeting the IRGC Intelligence Directorate and central Tehran. No official casualty figures or full damage assessments yet.
Israel has declared a nationwide state of emergency, closed its airspace, activated air raid sirens across the country, and instructed civilians to stay near protected areas. The IDF warned of an expected Iranian retaliation involving missiles and UAVs.
Some media (NYT, Al Jaazera, Jerusalem Post) mention U.S. officials confirming American involvement and coordination in the strikes, amid months of escalating threats, including U.S. military buildups in the region. However, they are primarily framing it as an Israeli-led action.

Just hours before USrael launched an unprovoked criminal attack on Iran, Omani Foreign Minister Badr al-Busaidi who acted as a mediator expressed optimism about resolving Iran's nuclear issues through indirect U.S.-Iran talks within 90 days, emphasizing amicable verification of stockpiles and peaceful program needs. Yet, the Zionist alliance proceeded with "Operation Epic Fury." By striking during Ramadan, the operation planners show a profound disrespect for Islam, it is as if it had been timed as a deliberate affront to Muslims. Yet and again negotiations were employed less as genuine pathways to resolution than as tactical cover for coercive action. This reckless aggression makes a mockery of diplomacy and confirms what we have long known: Washington can't be trusted, doesn't care about international condemnation because its reputation is already in tatters, is unconcerned about its so-called 'allies' and any damage they may incur as a result of its actions. @LauraRuHK

@LauraRuHK

Iran’s IRGC declared that all US bases, resources, and interests throughout the region are considered legitimate targets for the Iranian army.
The IRGC confirmed that Israeli and US bases in the region have already been hit by powerful Iranian missile strikes and vowed that the operation will continue relentlessly until the enemy is “decisively defeated.”
