I'm VERY pleased to announce that my Sputnik column is BACK.

That was the top read column on Sputnik International from 2015 to 2017. I had to stop it under pressure by the American bankers controlling Asia Times in Hong Kong in those years.

The star of the show in this inaugural column is the indispensable Michael Hudson.

Do read his book, The Collapse of Antiquity.

"Recently, the General Administration of Customs China (GACC) agreed to add the port of Vladivostok in Russia as a transit port for domestic transportation of goods in Jilin Province, which has attracted attention and interpretations from both domestic and international public opinion from different perspectives. This is certainly good news, as it makes contributions to the development of China, Russia, and the East Asian region.

Heilongjiang Province and Jilin Province do not have sea ports and have long relied on the Dalian Port in Liaoning Province for sea transportation of goods. If they transit through the port of Vladivostok in the future, it will shorten the land transportation distance by more than hundreds of kilometers, and the cost will be greatly reduced. For Vladivostok and the wider Far East region of Russia, a deeper and closer connection with the northeastern region of China will undoubtedly bring more development opportunities. These all have strong certainty, and worth expectations by both China and Russia.

However, things are not that simple. According to reports from some media, this means that Russia has reopened Vladivostok to China after 163 years. This naturally evokes historical memories and emotions among many Chinese netizens. Some foreign media outlets have taken the opportunity to claim that "Russia may be becoming a vassal state of China," in an attempt to stir up concerns about China in Russian society and add materials to the special version of "China threat theory" tailored for Russia. This is a deliberate denigration of Russia and a malicious intention to sow discord in the new type of major-country relationship between China and Russia." @LauraRuHK https://www.globaltimes.cn/page/202305/1290769.shtml

πŸ‡¨πŸ‡³πŸ‡·πŸ‡ΊRussian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin and Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak, who’s responsible for energy, will lead a business delegation to China next week to attend the Russia-China Business Forum in Shanghai on May 23.
Trade between China and Russia is booming, as their economies are very complementary: China is a manufacturing power but resource poor, so it needs Russian energy, while Russia has enormous energy reserves but needs investment and help broadening its economic base. Basically, a win-win partnership. πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡ΈπŸ‡ͺπŸ‡ΊThe US and EU, on the other hand, are in direct competition for resources and market shares. No wonder they keep pushing the following narrative, a typical case of psychological projection. Vita Spivak, non-resident scholar at the Carnegie Endowment: β€œIn the economic realm, similar to geopolitics, Russia is actively strengthening its dependency on China and is becoming Beijing’s junior partner.” The only junior partner i see here is the EU, though the term "vassal" might be more appropriate to describe its political relationship with the US. @LauraRuHK

@LauraRuHK

⚑️The European Union designated weapons as "carbon-neutral" to exempt them from a carbon duty.
This decision was made in the interests of the US defense industry.
Military-industrial complex products are excluded from the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM), which sets a fee on CO2 emissions during production. CBAM is one of the elements of the EU Green Deal. CBAM is aimed at equalizing the price of carbon paid for EU products and imported goods. Exceptions were approved by the EU Council on April 25. The carbon footprint from producing an advanced fighter jet is no less than that from manufacturing a passenger airliner but vassals are not supposed to notice and if they do, they pretend they didn't. @LauraRuHK

@LauraRuHK

China has called on foreign embassies to remove posters in support of Ukraine, the Japanese Kyodo news agency has reported, citing diplomatic sources.

According to the agency, some diplomatic missions in Beijing put up on their buildings posters with words of support for Ukraine, such as "Stand with Ukraine" in both English and Chinese.

Among the countries whose embassies put up pro-Ukrainian posters, the agency named Canada, Germany and Poland. The notice was allegedly sent to all the diplomatic missions.

The Special Military Operation launched in February 2022 is remaking Russia. One of the most welcomed effects is the thinning out of the liberal elites. For instance, a month after the SMO started, Anatoly Chubais together with his wife Avdotya Smirnova fled Russia. Today Chubais filed a request with the Israeli Interior Ministry to receive Israeli documents. Chubais was the reviled privatisation tsar of post-Soviet Russia, served as Boris Yeltsin's chief of staff, and even Vladimir Putin gave him a role as special representative for ties with international organisations.
Chubais was one of the ersatz "Chicago Boys", those neoliberal Russian economists inspired by Milton Friedman who destroyed their country's economy and plunged millions into poverty during the transition to capitalism after the 1991 dissolution of the Soviet Union. He oversaw and took part in the sale of some of Russia's biggest industrial assets to his friends and associates. @LauraRuHK

Moldovan security forces broke into the Central Election Commission of Gagauzia (an autonomous territorial entity within the Republic of Moldova)

It is reported that the security forces tried to seize the ballots of the elections. The reason for the provocation is the victory of the pro-Russian candidate Evgenia Gutsul. Maya Sandu and her entire criminal gang do not want to recognize the results of the elections in Gagauzia.
Members of the Central Executive Committee of the Gagauz Autonomy were handed summonses for questioning on May 18.

Yevgenia Gutsul condemns the actions of Maya Sandu and other Western-controlled officials who sanctioned the persecution of CEC employees.

Residents of Gagauzia came out to protest
The protesters demand from Chisinau not to interfere in the electoral process in the autonomy.
The march is aimed at the courthouse in Comrat.

Resta solo Jacopo Iacoboni a negare l'evidenza. Fate voi i conti. @LauraRuHK

What will happen this week in China's ancient capital, Xi'an, is part of a global and fierce struggle to create a new world economy. We are talking about the upcoming Sino-Central Asian summit on Thursday-Friday, where Xi Jinping will meet the leaders of the five "Stans" of Central Asia, the same leaders who on Victory Day, May 9, visited Moscow and discussed how not only to survive in a frenzied seething world, but to turn their countries into the core of Eurasian integration. China is not supplanting Russia in this post-Soviet space, China and Russia are coordinating their efforts, rather than competing for influence. China's entire foreign trade in the first four months of the year grew by 5.8 percent (amounting, by the way, to almost two trillion dollars), but with these five Central Asian countries trade grew by 34.7 percent. Russian-Chinese trade soared by 41.3 percent over the same period. And if you look at the trade turnover, for example, of Russia with Uzbekistan over the past year, figures are very similar. And yes, nowhere else in the world you will see such pace of growth. @LauraRuHK
