♟️ In 1997, Zbig Brzezinski, the original ‘driver’ behind the making of Afghanistan as a quagmire of ‘mud’ into which Russia was to be dragged, wrote his celebrated book, The Grand Chessboard. It was a work that ‘forever’ embedded the Mackinder doctrine of ‘he who controls the Asian heartland controls the world’ into the U.S. zeitgeist.

Tellingly, its subtitle was American Primacy and Its Geostrategic Imperatives. Brzezinski had already written in his book that absent Ukraine, Russia would never become the heartland power; but with Ukraine, Russia can and would. Thus, Mackinder’s doctrine, ‘He who controls the heartland’ dictum, was codified into U.S. ‘cannon law’ – never to permit a united heartland. And Ukraine became seen as the hinge around which heartland power revolved 🌀

Brzezinski further ordained that this ‘Grand Game of Chess’ was to be one of pure U.S. primacy: “No, no one else plays”, he insisted; it is a game purely for one. Once a chess piece is moved; ‘we’ (the U.S.) simply turn the board the other way around – and move the other side’s chess pieces (for ‘them’). There is ‘no other’ in this game”, Brzezinski warned.

This is today’s dilemma – It is so long since Brzezinski originally formulated the Mackinder notion, that classical diplomacy has become etiolated.

Eccoli, i “clienti”.

🇧🇾🇷🇺 And while the Belarusian leader Alexander Lukashenko is in Russia to hold talks with Vladimir Putin, i came across this Belarusian tractor in Moscow. I am not too familiar with tractors, but its size blew me away: it's bigger than my Hong Kong flat! The sign says "we are creating the future together" and the two countries are indeed cooperating in all areas, including machinery. @LauraRuHK

▪️China manufactures cheaper electric vehicles, their quality is comparable, and in some cases better than the quality of cars manufactured in the West. The EU calls it "market invasion". As it cannot compete it provides subsidies to its own industry. On top of that it also intends to slap punitive duties on Chinese imports, all the while accusing China of market distortion. Same old same old. ▪️Ursula, the gynecologist acting as president of the European Commission, is hellbent on waging yet another trade war with China. What she doesn't understand is that Chinese consumers have the power to deal a serious blow to European car makers if they want to. @LauraRuHK

@LauraRuHK

Putin's statements at his meeting with Lukashenko (Source: kp.ru)

🔻Putin described as "nonsense" the fake news that Russia would send North Korean volunteers to Ukraine;

🔻Actually Russian forces have captured foreign instructors helping Ukrainian on the battlefield, some were captured the other day;

🔻300,000 volunteers signed contracts with the Russian Armed Forces this year, as of this morning;

🔻Russia has never refused to negotiate on Ukraine, if the other side wants to - let them say so;

🔻Putin about the US statement that Kiev and the USA will dance a tango: it is important for Kiev not to forget the "Gopak" (Cossack folk dance), otherwise they will dance to someone else's tune, and in the end everyone will dance the "Barynya" (Russian folk dance). @LauraRuHK https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dRp4H6MXjKg

Russia ready to meet with papal envoy to discuss Ukrainian crisis — Lavrov
The top diplomat recalled that Russia has held meetings on Ukraine with representatives of Turkey, "who also have different ideas."
The Russian side is ready to meet with Cardinal Matteo Zuppi, the papal envoy for the Ukrainian settlement and the president of the Italian Bishops' Conference, to discuss the Ukrainian crisis, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said.

"The Vatican is continuing its efforts. The papal envoy will come back [to Russia] soon. We are ready to meet with anyone, we are ready to talk with anyone," he said at a roundtable discussion on the settlement of the Ukrainian crisis.

The top diplomat recalled that Russia has held meetings on Ukraine with representatives of Turkey, "who also have different ideas." "We appreciate the non-public efforts of the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia, first of all, in organizing the exchange of prisoners of war," he added. (Source: TASS) @LauraRuHK

Shana Tova! 😏 Israeli newspaper The Jerusalem Post has removed Zelensky from the top 50 influential Jews. The publication of the list of "50 most influential Jews in the world" is timed to coincide with Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year holiday.

The most influential Jew this year was Sam Altman, CEO of the American company OpenAI. In second place - Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, in third place - U.S. Secretary of State Anthony Blinken. (Source: TASS) @LauraRuHK
