The United States and seven Western allies (Australia, Canada, Britain, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands and Finland) announced this weekend they plan to cut funding to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) for Palestinian refugees as mass hunger remains a growing concern in the besieged Gaza Strip.

Collective punishment, that's how they responded to the toothless International Court of Justice (ICJ) and its ruling. Not only Israel completely ignored the court order to take steps to prevent genocidal acts in Gaza and continues to massacre civilians, but the US and its lapdogs have doubled down on their support for the genocidal entity and are trying to deflect attention away from Israel's crimes by accusing the UNRWA of being involved in the Oct. 7 attacks on Israel. @LauraRuHK

@LauraRuHK

🇷🇺🪖🎵The 355th day of the siege of Leningrad (St Petersburg) during WWII. All over the city hung posters: "The Great Hall of the Philharmonic Society, Sunday, August 9, 1942. Concert of the symphony orchestra. Shostakovich. Seventh Symphony (for the first time)."

The concert was to last 80 minutes. The command set a task to the Red Army men:
"During the performance of composer Shostakovich's Seventh Symphony, not a single enemy shell should burst in Leningrad!"
The artillerymen took their battle stations at the guns. A time calculation was made. The audience would begin to gather at the Philharmonic in advance, which meant an additional 30 minutes and the same amount of time for the citizens to go home. For 2 hours and 20 minutes the German guns should be silent, so our artillery should work, performing their "symphony of fire". Everyone was involved. A special role was given to reconnaissance. We had to know exactly what enemy guns were ready and could hit the city. It was necessary to know their number in order to calculate the necessary ammunition for this task.

Reconnaissance worked. Targets have been identified. Ammunition was allocated with a reserve. Major General Mikhail Semyonovich Mikhalkin, commander of the artillery of the 42nd Army, was put in charge of the task.

The Germans knew about the forthcoming concert and prepared their guns for a precise and massive strike just in time to kill as many citizens as possible. But they did not know about the plans of the Red Army command - to hold their own, artillery concert.
And so, half an hour before the concert began, our artillery played all the "violins". The strike was made simultaneously on all enemy batteries, observation posts and communication centers, giving no chance to any German cannon to "talk".
At that time in the Philharmonic Hall nothing reminded of the war. The air smelled of peaceful times. The huge crystal chandeliers were lit. The halls were cleaned to a shine. However, the Philharmonic was not heated, and the audience sat in their outer clothing. Even though it was summer, it was bitterly cold in this stone building. The conductor Carl Ilyich Eliasberg stood behind the console in a tuxedo and a snow-white shirt with a bowtie, and despite the cold, the whole orchestra took off their outer clothes and took their seats. Throughout the city the performance of the concert was broadcast through loudspeakers. And the conductor waved his baton.
During the concert, the battle alarm sounded. There were some soldiers in the audience who were forced to move into position. At this time, violating the rules of symphonic concerts, but paying tribute to the Red Army, Eliasberg stopped the playing, and applauded the Red Army soldiers leaving their seats, the entire orchestra applauded.

Many years after the war, two German tourists sought out conductor Eliasberg and told him: "We listened to the symphony that day. It was then, on August 9, 1942, that it became clear that we had lost the war. We felt your power to overcome hunger, fear, even death."

For the entire eighty minutes that Dmitri Shostakovich's Seventh (Leningrad) Symphony was playing, not a single enemy shell exploded in Leningrad. Not a single enemy Messer broke through the skies over Leningrad. The forces of the defending Soviet soldiers were exhausted. But each of the soldiers deliberately kept his post. The composer of the Leningrad Symphony, Dmitri Shostakovich, also kept his fighting post. He volunteered for the fire department and preferred to hear his work on combat duty rather than in the Philharmonic Hall.

Vladimir Putin, speaking on Saturday at the opening of a memorial to Soviet civilians killed by Nazi German forces: "Nazi Germany conducted a genocide of the Soviet population, leaving a deep scar on all generations since, with memories never fading away over the past eight decades (...) These days the outcomes of the Nuremberg trials are effectively being revised.” He pointed out that some countries have gone from rewriting history and whitewashing the Nazis to “arming themselves with Hitlerite ideology and methods.”

Putin cited the Baltic states, where Russian-speaking minorities are discriminated and added: “The regime in Kiev lionizes Hitlers’ accomplices, SS members, and uses terror against those who resist it, subjecting the elderly, women and children to barbaric shelling.”

Putin also stressed that “in a number of European countries, Russophobia is being promoted as the state policy.” Belarus' president Lukashenko attended the ceremony. @LauraRuHK

‼️🚨 COINCIDENCE:

1) UNRWA is a key evidence source for the ICJ trial against Israel

2) ICJ says the genocide allegations against Israel are plausible and continues the trial

3) The next day most western nations who were against the trial defund UNRWA

The EU will sabotage Hungary’s economy if Budapest blocks fresh aid to Ukraine at a summit this week, under a confidential plan drawn up by Brussels and seen by the Financial Times. Brussels has outlined a strategy to explicitly target Hungary’s economic weaknesses, imperil its currency and drive a collapse in investor confidence in a bid to hurt “jobs and growth” if Budapest refuses to lift its veto against the aid to Kiev.
Viktor Orbán has vowed to block the use of the EU budget to provide €50bn in financial aid to Ukraine at an emergency summit of leaders on Thursday.
If he does not back down, other EU leaders will permanently shut off all EU funding to Budapest with the intention of spooking the markets, precipitating a run on the country’s forint currency and a surge in the cost of its borrowing, Brussels stated in the document.▪️ The EU totalitarian nature is laid bare. Consensus has been replaced by coercion, intimidation and threats - unlawful means of achieving the desired results. @LauraRuHK

@LauraRuHK

American troops are seen as ‘sitting ducks’ in the Middle East - Three U.S. service members were killed and 34 more were wounded Saturday night in a drone attack. The assault marks the first time the U.S. admits that American troops have been killed in months of drone and missile attacks on U.S. forces. According to the U.S. official version, the drone targeted Tower 22, a smallish outpost (350 troops) attached to the Rukban refugee camp in Jordan, near the Iraq-Syria border. ▪️This claim was denied by Jordan. The Minister of Government Communications and Spokesperson of the Jordanian Cabinet of Ministers, Muhannad Mubaydin, stated that the attack targeted a base outside Jordanian territory, the al-Tanf base, an illegal U.S. base in Syria.
▪️The Islamic Resistance in Iraq – an umbrella group for Islamist Shia militias – claimed responsibility for the strike ▪️Iran’s UN mission said the country was not involved in the drone attack. ▪️Joe Biden said the attack was carried out by “radical Iran-backed militant groups,” while many U.S. politicians, itching for an escalation, blamed Tehran directly. UK Foreign Minister David Cameron similarly pointed to Iran. @LauraRuHK

US passed appropriation bill to spend US$300 millions per year between 2022-2026 to smear China

South China Morning Post: When the Chinese do it, it’s propaganda. When Washington does it, it’s “investing in our values”. The last phrase is taken from the Strategic Competition Act of 2021, newly passed by the United States Senate and will soon become law. It aims squarely at China and enjoys bipartisan support.

500 million dollars. That's the sum of money the US congress planned to allocate to churn out negative news coverage on China. First reported by American Prospect on Feb. 9, the bill was stuffed into the China-centered America COMPETES Act that just got passed by the US House of Representatives earlier this month. A majority of the half-billion-dollar fund will go to the US Agency for Global Media (USAGM), a state-run media service that oversees Voice of America (VOA), Radio Free Europe (RFE), and Radio Free Asia (RFA), which have a record of "blurring the line between objective news coverage and pro-American propaganda," the article wrote.

After the real estate developer defaulted in 2021, investors, most notably BlackRock, HSBC, Fidelity, Ashmore Group PLC, UBS, scooped up Evergrande's discounted IOUs, betting that the Chinese government would eventually step in to bail it out. Wrong bet: Chinese authorities arrested Evergrande's chairman, Xu Jiayin, and several executives.

Evergrande's debt, around US$ 300 billion, is now worthless and its assets may be off-limits. Insolvency experts said it would be a challenge for the liquidator to get hold of those assets. Guangzhou, where Evergrande is based, is not one of the three Chinese cities that mutually recognise liquidation orders with Hong Kong. ▪️Evergrande is no longer a problem for China, which has successfully deflated the property bubble. Just a problem for Western investors speculators. 😏. @LauraRuHK

😏 @LauraRuHK

On Facebook, where you can be banned for criticizing Israel, Nazis enjoy a free pass. Daugavas Vanagi (the Daugava Hawks) is a Latvian neo-Nazi association that keeps alive the memory of the former Nazi Waffen SS Legion. The association was founded in 1945 in a British-run camp in Belgium where members of the Latvian SS were held. Most of them ended up in the US and Canada as "respected members" of the Latvian community and took part in anti-Soviet activities during the Cold War. Never forget the roots of anti-Russian sentiment in the Baltics. Today in Latvia SS sympathizers enjoy rights that are denied to Russian-speakers and successfully lobby their government to demolish monuments to the Soviet soldiers who died fighting Nazism. In the US Daugavas Vanagi even offers a scholarship for the best essay on “The Latvian Legion and Legionaries” sponsored by the Latvian Ministry of Education and Science. https://kursa.rklic.org/registration/apply-daugavas-vanagi-usa-scholarship/ @LauraRuHK

Fasciobook.

▪️EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell has virtually admitted that the EU’s plans to invest in the transport infrastructure of Central Asian nations are meant to undermine Russia, specifically aimed at getting the region’s countries to back the European Union’s attempts to set up an economic blockade against Russia.

“In order for the sanctions to be effective we need full cooperation from our partners. We are following closely the trade between us, between Central Asian countries with Russia, we try to analyze the mechanisms that make sanctions being circumvented,” he said at the EU-Central Asia transport investment forum. (Source: TASS) ▪️The EU plans to raise up to €10 billion ($10.8 billion) in investment to create a transport corridor to Central Asia through the South Caucasus and Türkiye that bypasses Russia.

According a statement released by the European Commission, Brussels is currently ready to allocate €2.97 billion for the purpose.

For additional funding, the European Investment Bank has reportedly signed memorandums of understanding totaling €1.47 billion with the governments of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan, as well as the Development Bank of Kazakhstan.

Meanwhile, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development is expected to sign a memorandum of understanding with Kazakhstan regarding an investment pipeline worth €1.5 billion for projects already being prepared to develop transport connectivity in Central Asia. (Source: RT) @LauraRuHK
