Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was a Baptist minister. He lived in the 1950s and noticed that equality among people did not exist. People of color were discriminated against and treated very poorly.
During this time period, the Supreme Court ruled on the case Brown v. Board of Education. This case was about ending segregation in public schools.
King fought for civil rights for all people. He made many speeches and marched in protests. He was trying to get the government to allow freedom to all people. King was eventually arrested and thrown into jail.
When he got out, he organized a march in Washington, D.C. On the steps of the Lincoln Memorial, he delivered his most famous speech. This speech talked about his dream that one day all children could sit and work together regardless of the color of their skin. His speech also talked about all Americans deserving the same rights.
Thousands of people heard this speech. This speech helped lead to laws like the Civil Rights Act of 1964. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was, and still is, an inspiration to many.

Yawn! Are you getting enough sleep? There are experts who don’t think you are. The average bedtime for most children today is much later than it used to be. Years ago, children used to go to bed by 7:30 P.M. Today, children are lucky to get in bed by 9:00 P.M. There are many reasons why experts believe this is the case.
One of the reasons is because children are involved in too many activities. Children have the opportunity to be involved in soccer, ballet, basketball, ceramics, Girl Scouts, football, piano, and more. There is no end to the number of activities in which children can become involved. This means that as soon as school is out, many children are expected to attend practices. By the time children get home, they get a quick bite of dinner to eat. After dinner, there needs to be time set aside to complete homework. Most children want to watch some television before they take a bath or shower and get
to bed.
Another reason children aren’t sleeping as much is because more and more families have both parents working. By the time parents get home, they have a lot of work to do. They need to get dinner going. They need to run children here and there. And they need to help children with homework.
Families need to cut back. Children need to be involved in fewer activities. Parents need to come up with a better schedule for the family. Children need more sleep!

Many in the village knew that Ketu had a hard time singing. They often plugged their ears as he sang. His singing made the babies in the village cry. Many people asked Ketu to stop singing, but he never did. He was sad that he could not sing very well, but he refused to quit singing.
One morning, he awoke to the sound of the birds singing beautiful songs outside of his window. He decided then and there that he would take singing lessons from the birds. Each day Ketu would rise before the sun was awake. He would walk into the forest and sing with the birds. He sang day after day.
One day a ceremony was held in the village. All of the village people were gathered at the ceremony. It was a day of great pride and joy for the village. It was the celebration of their new king.
The new king did not know that Ketu could not sing very well. At the opening of the ceremony, he called on Ketu to sing, and all of the village people moaned and covered their ears. But they were flabbergasted to hear the most beautiful voice singing. They were surprised to see that it was Ketu who was singing so beautifully. They could not believe their ears.
From that day forward, Ketu was always asked to sing at all celebrations and ceremonies. From then on, he was seen as the master singer of the village.

Blaring on television was the announcement that Neil Armstrong had just been the first person ever to walk on the moon. Seth and Tim said simultaneously, “Oh, man!”
“It’s no use, Seth. It’s been done. Someone else beat us to the moon,” said Tim.

Sam and Tom are best friends. They like to walk in the forest near their house.
