This day is celebrated as Goa Liberation Day.
- Goa, located on India's western coast, was a Portuguese colony for nearly 450 years.
- On 19th December 1961, the Indian government launched 'Operation Vijay,' ending Portuguese rule and liberating Goa, Daman, and Diu.
- In 1963, through the 12th Constitutional Amendment Act, Goa, Daman, and Diu were incorporated as a Union Territory into the Indian Union.
