Note: Some third party recoveries have got an update to support *decryption* on android 11:

You will be able to enter your password and decrypt the /data partition in those recovery builds. However, during our testing process, formatting data is still a hit or miss. Some users will get working encryption upon the initial format and boot, but others will have a broken encryption and may need another data format. /data will appear to be encrypted, the recovery will prompt you to enter password, but if you skip/cancel the password prompt, you will see that files are not actually encrypted. This does not happen to everyone using TWRP/OrangeFox, and the cause is still being investigated.
Therefore, format data with PE recovery is still required for clean flash. If you are already on the previous PE 11 build, OTA or dirty flash is fine.

PE recovery flash guide[Required for clean flash]:
- Download PE recovery from the the polaris device page of official PE website
- Boot your phone into fastboot mode. You can either
* Hold power + volume down button
* or adb reboot recovery
* or use the Reboot to bootloader option in TWRP/OrangeFox
- Connect your phone to a computer
- Run fastboot flash recovery pe_recovery_file_name.img in your cmd/powershell/terminal
- Hold power + volume up to boot into recovery

PE 11 ROM flash guide[Required for clean flash]:
- Boot into PE recovery
- Select Factory reset" --> "Format data/factory reset
- Go back to main menu and select "Apply update" --> "Apply from ADB"
- Connect your phone to a computer
- Run adb sideload pe_rom_file_name.zip in your cmd/powershell/terminal and wait until it finishes
- Reboot to system

* Google moved the apex sessions directory from /data/apex/sessions to /metadata/apex/sessions
* we do not have a metadata partition out of the box
* thus a dummy directory is created to satisfy the requirement
* Note: there may be multiple Google Play system updates since October 2020, and your phone may need multiple reboots to install them. You may see a "try again" after you press the reboot button for the second time, and that is because Google Play stops reboot caused by system update if the previous reboot was within 15 minutes. It was intended to prevent infinite reboot during a bootloop (and yes it is stupid in this case). Just reboot manually and the update will install fine.
- ANX Camera portrait mode now works out of the box (verified on ANX Camera 185R)

Note: Format data with PE recovery is still required for clean flash. If you are already on the previous PE 11 build, OTA or dirty flash is fine.

PE recovery flash guide[Required for clean flash]:
- Download PE recovery from the the polaris device page of official PE website
- Boot your phone into fastboot mode. You can either
* hold power + volume down button
* or adb reboot bootloader
* or use the Reboot to bootloader option in TWRP/OrangeFox
- Connect your phone to a computer
- Run fastboot flash recovery pe_recovery_file_name.img in your cmd/powershell/terminal
- Hold power + volume up to boot into recovery

PE 11 ROM flash guide[Required for clean flash]:
- Boot into PE recovery
- Select Factory reset" --> "Format data/factory reset
- Go back to main menu and select "Apply update" --> "Apply from ADB"
- Connect your phone to a computer
- Run adb sideload pe_rom_file_name.zip in your cmd/powershell/terminal and wait until it finishes
- Reboot to system

* thus a dummy directory is created to satisfy the requirement
* Note: there may be multiple Google Play system updates since October 2020, and your phone may need multiple reboots to install them. You may see a "try again" after you press the reboot button for the second time, and that is because Google Play stops reboot caused by system update if the previous reboot was within 15 minutes. It was intended to prevent infinite reboot during a bootloop (and yes it is stupid in this case). Just reboot manually and the update will install fine.
- Satisfied the graceful shutdown of light devices in light HAL
- ANX Camera portrait mode now works out of the box (verified on ANX Camera 185R)
* Note: please install ANX through Magisk. ANX's installation zip does not support PE/AOSP recovery
- Updated vendor and firmware from MIUI Global Stable V12.0.3.0
- Imported RenderScript blobs from Pixel 3 XL
- Configured SQLite journal to use MEMORY mode
* about 2x performance increase in SQLite insert/update/delete

- Fixed a SystemUI crash when connecting to some Bluetooth devices
