Three Men and Three Women.

It is reported that ʿUmar b. Al-Khaṭṭāb al Farook (radiAllahuanhuma) said:

There are three types of men and three types of women.

■ As for the women, then [one] is the chaste, Muslim, gentle, loving and childbearing woman. She helps her family in difficult situations and does not help situations to overcome her family. Rarely will you find such women.

■ Another is a vessel, she does nothing more than bear children.

■ The third type is a shackle, Allāh puts her around the neck of whomsoever he wills, and when he wills to remove it, he removes it.

Men are [also] three kinds.

■ [The first is] a chaste, easy, gentle man who possesses opinion (insight) and is worthy of being consulted; and when a matter befalls him, he follows his insight, and approaches matters as they should be.

■ The second is a man who has no opinions of his own, and when a matter befalls him he goes to the one who does have insight and should be consulted, and he adopts his opinion on the matter.

■ The third is a man who is confused, lost and aimless; he neither follows (seeks) guidance, nor obeys any guide.

THE IMPORTANCE OF KEEPING THE FEMALE VIRGINITY BEFORE MARRIAGE IN ISLAM.
.
.
Virginity is a very strong sign of chastity in Islam. It cannot be underestimated today no matter what reasons we choose to profer here or elsewhere. The Prophet s.a.w. did recommend marrying virgins. That does not mean only those with intact hymens but those who have never attempted premarital sex till the time of nikah. Meeting the hymen intact or seeing blood stains on the first night is not as important as knowing that no man has touched the lady before getting married for the first time.
.
The nikah of those married as virgins are not the same with those married after they have lost their virginity through premarital sex because their first partner remains on their mind. Women should strive to keep their virginity till their first night in marriage for their first ever legal husband. That is the joy of it all and that is the culture that Islam treasures a lot and also a practice treasured in so many tribes and cultures of the world.
.
Virginity may not tell you the state of the heart but it definitely sends a strong message of morality, fidelity, chastity, loyalty and good home training and upbringing. No right thinking man will like to wish away such rare and invaluable precious qualities in a woman.
We are not marrying from Hollywood, Bollywood or Nollywood. We are marrying from a pool of well trained muslim sisters from good Islamic homes. That is why Allah says that the fornicator should marry the fornicatress, and the pure and chaste men should also marry the pure and chaste women.
.
Besides it does not matter or make much difference if a lady has been in jahiliyah or not prior to the time of practising Islam well and getting married. Jahiliyah is different from jahiliyah. There is jahiliyah with good home training and moral upbringing and there is jahiliyah with lack of home training and reckless and immoral upbringing. The fact that a lady grew up without Islam doesn't mean that she must have grown up loose without morality and chastity. Jahiliyah is not synonymous with reckless and immoral living and engaging in premarital sex and affairs. Most of our pious predecessors including the Prophet s.a.w. married before Islam during jahiliyah (ignorant) period and they married chaste women. In most cultures in the world, both Muslim and non-muslim, virginity and chastity are two inseparable twin qualities of good marriable spinsters.
.
We are not saying that only virgins are chaste but being virgins at the time of nikah is a sure proof of chastity. Of course there are exceptions but they must remain exceptions because the accepted and recommended norm in Islam is to marry muhsanat which means chaste women either from the never married who are expected to be virgins and previously married chaste women from among the widows and divorcees who must have been married as virgins the first time they got married.
.
However virgins are given priority over the previously married chaste women in the Sunnah of the Prophet (s.a.w.). Exceptions are chaste women who lost their virginity
through rape or exercises when small but they must feel the loss and wish they didn't lose it physically though they remain chaste because virginity is a virtue and remains a virtue in today's immoral world though lack of hayah i.e. Islamic shyness and modesty in women is making many to disregard the sanctity and sacredness attached to virginity.
.
Those who lost their virginity before
developing islamic consciousness but later sincerely repented are among the chaste women but they are not equal with those who eventually married as virgins. That is why the Prophet s.a.w. said that paradise is guaranteed for any muslim man who succeeds in raising three, two or even one daughter with sound morals till he marries them out. This is their reward for marrying out their daughters as virgins.

Muslim weddings are intended to commence with blessings, modesty, and the remembrance of Allah. Increasingly, however, contemporary practices incorporate music, dancing, and public displays of immodesty, thereby diminishing the blessings that ought to characterise such a sacred occasion. These developments risk undermining the spiritual essence of marriage. A return to Islamic principles provides the most reliable foundation for enduring happiness and divine blessings

Dear Muslim Girl,

Falling in love and getting all emotional and 'mushy mushy' is not the next thing after you receive a proposal. It is time to get into prayer mode and fact finding.

Pray like your life depend on it and remain clear headed about why you are giving a consideration to the proposal.

You will be doing love wrong if all you do is fall in love and become emotional, talking day and night and blushing over every chat.

It is natural for some sense of attachment to begin. A chemical reaction will happen in your brain at the onset of a new relationship which in turn releases those warm fuzzy feelings. You must resist the urge to be carried away.

Good for you, islam has restrictions in opposite gender interactions.

Love at first sight is mostly an illusion. Falling in love is as easy as apple pie. Staying in love is the deeper challenge many people are unwilling to pay the price for.

Pray like your life depend on it. Listen for details. Let your waliyy do his job. Discern the unspoken words from the spoken words. Clarify what seem unclear. Ask questions. All these doesn't have to take forever. But, the time can vary from person to person and situation to situation.

In all you do, stay within Islamic limits.

If you are patient, there's a lot of time ahead of you to make loving memories and get all blown away by his presence. You will have the time to be swept away during your honeymoon phase and after it. You will get your own opportunity to create romantic experiences like love birds do. You are in the marriage for the long haul.

Don't rush the process by clouding your sense of reasoning. Silence those yeye butterflies.

For now, focus on Allah and let him guide you. This is the foundation of your marriage. No building that wants to stand the test of time bolts through its foundation stage.

Marriage is a lifelong journey. Begin with the end in mind.

Today, a lot of single sisters turn down the marriage proposal of married men because they do not want to share their husband with any woman. They want him to themselves alone. Some don't mind going into polygyny but only on the condition that they are the first wife. Similarly some married men prefer to marry virgins as second or third wife and they avoid the widows and divorcees. If married men ignore the widows and divorcees who will consider them? Is it the single men, the bachelors?
.
Most bachelors will never consider previously married women but there are not enough bacjelors to marry the virgins never married women so they should not rule out accepting the proposal of married men. A lot of bachelors marry late these days because of economic reasons. They need to save enough money for securing an accommodation, have a stable source of income before they can be ready for nikah. So the single sisters sometimes have no choice but to consider married men's proposal if they don't want to delay unnecessarily.
.
It is true that anyone, male or female can choose who to marry and no one should make a jest or mockery of a fellow muslim over their choices and preferences but from life experience people should be advised, guided and counselled on how to choose a spouse in islam or else they just take irrational and unrealistic decisions that will have negative consequences later. Some accept the proposal of men who are not religious because they are single but later get divorced due to incompatibility.
.
Firstly, being a single or married man is usually not part of what is given consideration in a man before saying yes or no to his proposal. Aisha bint Abubakr r.a. who was a very young virgin married a much older married man the age of her father or older.
.
Hafsah bint Umar r.a., a divorced teenager married a married man far older than her dad. Zainab bint Ali, a young virgin married a married man (Umar ibn Al-Khattab) a married man far older than her father. The marital status (whether single or married) was not considered. Even their age wasn't considered. Consideration was given to the faith and piety.
.
The Prophet s.a.w. was reported to have said that if a man whose religion you like proposes to your daughter and you turn him down then you should expect fitnah (calamities) on the earth and great fasad 7(immoralities). He didn't say the man must be single or married. So long as his deen is sound then his proposal should be accepted.
.
Any woman who insists on marrying a single unmarried man is not following the sunnah and is not being realistic. Even those married men seeking to take more wives are giving priority to virgins and young widows and divorcees without kids. Single men are not looking at the side of widows and divorcees at all. It is only in exceptional cases that you see a bachelor going for a married woman.
.
Recently a young bachelor decided to propose to a twice divorcee with three kids but he was shocked when his mum who has a very good understanding of the deen opposed him vehemently and he had no choice but to cancel the proposal.
.
I know of a young muslim sister who accepted the proposal of married men three times but didn't end up in marriage before she eventually married a bachelor according to what was destined for her. If a very young pretty lady like her could accept the proposal of married men because she was being realistic then what do you think of a widow or divorcee with kids rejecting the proposal of a married man because she prefers a single man?
.
We should encourage our sisters to follow the sunnah, the advice of the experienced elders and be realistic in their choice of spouse.
.
May Allah ease the affairs of our single women. Amin.
.

WHEN MARITAL PROBLEMS ARE LEFT UNRESOLVED, BITTERNESS GROWS

When problems in a marriage are not properly addressed, the hurt does not simply disappear. If spouses continually ignore problems, refuse to communicate, or allow resentment to build, anger and bitterness can grow until they begin to damage the love and mercy that once existed between them.

Allah سبحانه وتعالى says:

And live with them in kindness.”
— Qur’an 4:19»

This command applies to the way spouses treat one another. Marriage is not supposed to be a relationship where one spouse deliberately humiliates, neglects, or emotionally punishes the other.

Allah also reminds us of the purpose of marriage:

And He placed between you affection and mercy.”
— Qur’an 30:21»

A healthy marriage requires both mawaddah (affection) and rahmah (mercy). When communication completely disappears, emotional distance can develop even while two people are living under the same roof.

Being Ignored Can Cause Deep Hurt

When a spouse repeatedly refuses to speak, communicate, or address important problems, the other spouse may begin to feel rejected, confused, and emotionally alone.

The Prophet ﷺ said:

The best of you are those who are best to their wives.”
— Jāmiʿ at-Tirmidhī»

Being a good spouse is not only about providing financially or fulfilling physical responsibilities. It also includes good character, patience, consideration, communication, and avoiding unnecessary harm.

The Prophet ﷺ also said:

It is not permissible for a Muslim to forsake his brother beyond three nights...”
— Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī and Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim»

This hadith concerns Muslims generally, and marriage has even greater considerations because spouses have intimate rights and responsibilities toward one another. Therefore, deliberately cutting off communication as a means of punishment should not be treated lightly.

There Is a Difference Between Taking Space and Giving the Silent Treatment

Sometimes a person is extremely angry and needs time to calm down. Taking a reasonable amount of time to regain composure can be wise.

A spouse can say:

“I am upset right now. I don't want to say something sinful or hurtful. Give me some time, and in shā’ Allāh, we will talk about this calmly.”

That is very different from deliberately ignoring someone for days, withholding affection, refusing to communicate, or using silence to make the other person suffer.

One approach seeks reconciliation.

The other can become punishment and emotional harm.

Allah سبحانه وتعالى says:

The good deed and the bad deed are not the same. Repel [evil] by that which is better...”
— Qur’an 41:34»

Do Not Allow Resentment To Become A Permanent Way of Life

A marriage can slowly deteriorate when every disagreement is buried instead of resolved.

First, there is an argument.

Then there is silence.

Then emotional distance.

Then resentment.

Eventually, two people can find themselves living in the same house while feeling like strangers.

This is why spouses should address problems with wisdom, honesty, patience, and mercy before small wounds become deep resentment.

Allah سبحانه وتعالى says:

And reconciliation is best.”
— Qur’an 4:128»

And when a marriage reaches serious conflict, Allah instructs:

If you fear dissension between the two, send an arbitrator from his family and an arbitrator from her family. If they both desire reconciliation, Allah will cause it between them.”
— Qur’an 4:35»

Notice the objective: reconciliation.

Islam does not teach spouses to simply allow problems to grow until the relationship collapses. Rather, Islam provides guidance for addressing conflict and seeking what is best.

Do Not Blame Only One Spouse

It is also important to be fair.

Not every marital breakdown can be attributed entirely to one person's silence or negligence. Sometimes both spouses contribute to the deterioration of the marriage. Sometimes there is serious wrongdoing, abuse, betrayal, or other circumstances that require qualified intervention.
Therefore, we should not make blanket statements such as, “Divorce happens because one spouse ignored the other.”

Rather, we should understand that unresolved problems, persistent neglect, poor communication, ظلم (injustice), and failure to seek reconciliation can all contribute to the destruction of a marriage.

The believer should fear Allah regarding the rights of his or her spouse.

Marriage is an amānah—a responsibility before Allah.

Before giving up, ask:

Have we genuinely communicated?
Have we apologized when we were wrong?
Have we stopped retaliating?
Have we sought sincere advice?
Have we involved trustworthy people when necessary?
Have we genuinely tried to reconcile?

And above all:

Are we treating our spouse in a way that we would be pleased to meet Allah while having done?

May Allah place mawaddah(affection) and rahmah (mercy) between believing spouses, remove resentment from their hearts, guide them to communicate with wisdom, and reconcile that which has become broken.
Ameen 🤲🏾

BEHIND CLOSED DOORS WITH THE PROPHET ﷺ

Lessons in Marriage

#3 “Your Wife May See What You Cannot.”

At Hudaybiyyah, the Prophet ﷺ and his Companions had travelled to Makkah intending to perform ʿUmrah, only to be prevented from entering.

After a difficult treaty was agreed upon, the Prophet ﷺ told his Companions to sacrifice their animals and shave their heads before returning home.

But they were so disappointed and emotionally overwhelmed that no one moved.

The Prophet ﷺ went to his wife Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) and told her what had happened.

She gave him some simple but brilliant advice: Go out, say nothing, sacrifice your animal and shave your head. When they see you do it, they will follow.

He listened to her advice.

And that is exactly what happened.

There are some powerful lessons here:

+ Listen to your spouse: Sometimes the person closest to you can see something you cannot.

+ Asking your wife for advice does not weaken your leadership: The Prophet ﷺ was the leader of an entire Ummah, yet he listened to the wisdom of his wife.

+ Good advice can come from inside your home: Don’t become so familiar with your spouse that you stop valuing their opinion.

+ Sometimes actions work better than words: Umm Salamah understood that the Companions were emotionally overwhelmed. They didn’t need another instruction—they needed to see the Prophet ﷺ lead by example.

A strong marriage is not about one person always having the answers.

Sometimes one of the greatest strengths in a marriage is being able to say:

“What do you think I should do?”

You don’t keep your virginity for a man, you keep it for Allah, because He commanded you to guard your chastity. Your obedience is to Allah first not to the man you may marry.

Pregnancy isn’t 50/50.
Birth isn’t 50/50.
Breastfeeding isn’t 50/50.
Postpartum recovery isn’t 50/50.
The sleepless nights aren’t 50/50.
The mental load isn’t 50/50.
The physical changes aren’t 50/50.

She carries the pregnancy.
She goes through labour.
She bl££ds, heals, and recovers.
She wakes up to feed the baby.
She gives her body, her sleep, her time, and so much of herself.

By the time the baby comes, she has already paid a price that a man could never physically pay.

That doesn’t make a father’s role less important.
It simply means that the sacrifices of motherhood deserve to be seen, appreciated, and supported.

Because raising a child is a shared responsibility — but pregnancy, birth, and breastfeeding are experiences only a woman can physically go through.

Appreciate her. Support her. And don’t make her feel like she has to carry everything alone.
