The Panel of Experts on Compensation of Victims of Human Rights Violations says 1,083 victims of protests and other human rights violations have received KSh 1.014 billion in State compensation.
The payments cover deaths, injuries, sexual violence, economic losses and other recognised forms of harm. So far, 139 verified economic loss claims have been settled, while 100 claims involving uniformed officers have also been approved.
In Phases IV and V, the panel approved 307 claims worth a combined KSh 113.8 million. Phase IV covered 125 claims valued at KSh 80.55 million, while Phase V covered 182 claims worth KSh 33.25 million.
Chairperson Prof. Makau Mutua said each claim is verified, authenticated and categorised before payment. The panel says it will continue processing the remaining claims and issuing updates as the compensation programme continues.
