"We are alarmed by the escalating spiral of violence in #Yemen that continues to harm civilians and is spilling over its borders. January will almost certainly be a record-shattering month for civilian casualties in Yemen.
We reiterate the United Nations Secretary-General’s condemnation of the air strikes carried out by the Saudi-led Coalition on 21 January against a prison facility in Sa’ada where migrants were also held. The airstrikes reportedly killed 91 detainees and injured 226. It is the worst civilian-casualty incident in Yemen in three years.
Over the past few weeks, air strikes and missile attacks have hit hospitals, telecommunication infrastructure, airports, a water facility and a school. There has also been an alarming uptick in attacks against the United Arab Emirates and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia that resulted in civilian casualties and damage to civilian infrastructure.
The scale of the escalation is exacerbating an already severe humanitarian crisis in Yemen, complicating efforts to provide relief, threatening regional security and undermining efforts to bring an end to the conflict.
We remind the parties that being at war does not absolve them of their obligations under international humanitarian law, which strictly prohibits disproportionate attacks and requires that all feasible precautions be taken to avoid civilian harm. We reiterate the importance of accountability for violations of international humanitarian law.
The United Nations has been in contact with all sides to explore options to achieve de-escalation and begin an inclusive dialogue aimed at reaching a negotiated political settlement that comprehensively ends the conflict. We urge all parties to engage with these efforts immediately and without preconditions. We call upon them to prioritize the needs and interests of the Yemeni people."

"نحن قلقون إزاء دوامة العنف المتصاعدة في اليمن التي تستمر في الإضرار بالمدنيين، وتمتد لتتخطى حدود البلاد. من المؤكد أن شهر كانون الثاني/يناير سيحطم الأرقام القياسية فيما يتعلق بعدد الضحايا المدنيين.
نكرر إدانة الأمين العام للأمم المتحدة للغارات الجوية التي شنها التحالف الذي تقوده السعودية يوم 21 كانون الثاني/يناير على أحد السجون في صعدة، حيث كان يتم احتجاز المهاجرين أيضًا. لقد أسفرت هذه الغارات عن مقتل ما لا يقل عن 91 محتجزًا وسقوط 226 جريح. تُعتبر هذه أسوأ حادثة من حيث عدد الضحايا المدنيين في اليمن منذ ثلاث سنوات.
في الأسابيع الأخيرة، أصابت الغارات الجوية والصواريخ مستشفيات، وبنية تحتية للاتصالات، ومطارات، ومرفق للمياه، ومدرسة. كما تزايدت الهجمات التي تستهدف الإمارات العربية المتحدة والمملكة العربية السعودية بشكل مقلق، وتسببت أيضًا في وقوع ضحايا مدنيين وفي الإضرار بالبنية التحتية المدنية.
يؤدي هذا القدر من التصعيد إلى تفاقم أزمة انسانية حادة بالفعل، ويعقد جهود توفير الإغاثة، ويهدد الأمن الاقليمي، ويقوض جهود إنهاء النزاع.
نذّكر الأطراف بأن حالة الحرب لا تعفيهم من التزاماتهم بموجب القانون الإنساني الدولي الذي يحظر بشدة الهجمات غير المتناسبة ويستوجب اتخاذ جميع الاحتياطات الممكنة لتجنب وقوع الضرر على المدنيين. ونشدّد على أهمية المساءلة لانتهاكات القانون الدولي الانساني.
إن الأمم المتحدة على تواصل مع جميع الجهات لبحث الخيارات لتحقيق خفض التصعيد والبدء في حوار جامع يهدُف إلى الوصول إلى حل سياسي عن طريق التفاوض ينهي النزاع بشكل شامل. نحثّ جميع الأطراف على التفاعل مع هذه الجهود فورًا وبدون شروط مسبقة. وندعو الأطراف أيضًا إلى إعطاء الأولوية لاحتياجات ومصالح الشعب اليمني."

The UN Special Envoy for Yemen, Hans Grundberg, visited #Muscat and met Ansar Allah's chief negotiator, Mohammed Abdulsalam, and Omani officials. Mr. Grundberg stressed the urgency to take concrete steps towards a cessation of violence and engage on a sustainable settlement of the conflict in Yemen.

UN Envoy Grundberg initiated today the first in a series of bilateral consultations with multiple Yemeni stakeholders. The consultations are intended to inform a Framework that would guide a future sustainable settlement to the conflict in #Yemen https://osesgy.unmissions.org/un-special-envoy-grundberg...
Consultations will be conducted during the upcoming weeks and will engage Yemeni political parties, civil society and Yemeni experts, and will cover a wide range of political, economic and security issues.
