The most tracked flight on @flightradar24 is ICE213 from CPH to KEF going into a holding pattern as a fairly large volcanic eruption has started on the Reykjanes Peninsula. #AvGeek @petchmo @AirlineFlyer - Guðmundur Egill

Put pods underneath and we have a winner.

Cummon…really ? Would you sit up here ? I have to ask why…the noise would be deafening, the view forwards and down obstructed by the aircraft. I flew the Herc which had a cupola and the view was good above but rubbish elsewhere. Put this in the same file as round banked runways…and move on.

RT @TheIntelFrog: 🧐

“The Wall Street Journal is reporting today that the both of the Fuel Control Switches were found at cutoff in the wreckage, which would have shut both engines down.”

We are expecting the preliminary investigation report to be released today by the Indian AAIB today for the Air India 171 crash last month.

The Wall Street Journal is reporting today that the both of the Fuel Control Switches were found at cutoff in the wreckage, which would have shut both engines down.

This is in line with the RAT having been deployed, and the subsequent loss of electrically-driven hydraulic power would have prevented gear retraction as per the videos doing the rounds.

Why this is the case is now the focus of the investigation, and unlikely to be released until the final report comes out. The preliminary report tends to be factual info only.

Per the WSJ.. “U.S. officials’ early assessments of the crash probe don’t indicate a problem with that model aircraft or its GE engines, people familiar with the matter said.
Neither the FAA nor the plane and engine makers have issued any service bulletins or safety directives to address a potential problem with the fleet.”

RT @jumpjim: If you’re ever unfortunate enough to see an engine failure like this on the aircraft you’re travelling in, a couple of reasons you don’t need to be scared (Although I understand it’s human nature)..

1) Firstly it’s very rare. Most pilots are likely to have one engine failure per career as new engines are VERY reliable.

2) The flight crew train and are tested for this exact scenario every 6 months in the simulator. Dealing with one becomes second nature as we’ve practised it so often.

3) Our first priority is making sure the aircraft is flying somewhere safe (Away from terrain) so the fire might not get extinguished immediately. The engine is designed to contain it in the meantime.

4) Lastly, and don’t take this the wrong way, communicating with the cabin is a fair way down the priority list so it might be a while before we speak to you. This does not mean it’s not being dealt with.

Delta Air Lines Airbus A330-323 returns safely to Sao Paulo Guarulhos International Airport after failure of its left engine shortly after departure.

In a statement the airline said, "Delta Flight 104 from Sao Paulo to Atlanta returned to the airport shortly after takeoff on Sunday night after a mechanical problem with the aircraft's left engine. The Airbus A330-300 landed safely and was met by the airport firefighting team (ARFF), and the passengers were taken by bus to the terminal. The safety of our customers and crew is our highest priority. We apologize to our customers for this delay in their travels."
