Timing on this beast is still relatively far out (7-10 days) but this is a really interesting scenario.

OVERNIGHT EURO MODEL ABSORBS "LEE" INTO THE NORTHEAST..
A scenario that I had on the table ystd showed last night in the modeling specifically the euro where #HurricaneLee is absorbed into the northeast trough later next week.
The reason for this is two fold
1. Trough weakens significantly coming east and stalls
2. Ridging over NovaScotia becomes stronger
This does NOT necessarily mean a landfall from #Dover DE to #Portland ME happens (WHICH IS VERY RARE). It does keep the gates open for a potential capture of a weakened #Lee as it moves northwest for a bit.
Mid-next week will feel a bit uncomfortable from North Carolina to #NovaScotia as we "wait" for a recurve (if it happens at all). The forecasting wildcards for this storm are still VERY fluid. No one solution should be accepted but the capture and northern coast landfall is still an option. - Mike Mascotweet

RT @MikeFischerWx: This 2228 UTC GMI overpass of Hurricane #Lee is one of the most impressive microwave signatures I’ve ever seen in an Atlantic hurricane. Deep convection completely encircles the eyewall. Recon is about to find something wild.

Welp, that escalated VERY quickly. Hurricane #Lee may already be a Cat 5 hurricane, or darn close to it.

This 24 hour loop of #Lee intensifying today just shows how quick this whole process was. From a sloppy looking minimal hurricane to a near Category 5 now. Has just been going at it since those VHTs went off last night. Historic event particularly for this part of the basin - Alex Borehamtweet

RT @US_Stormwatch: Hurricane #Lee is becoming a massive storm out in the open Atlantic, nearly 1000 km wide (621 miles).
That's roughly the same distance from Boston to Detroit.
Even if the center of #Lee passes well off the coast of the Northeast, coastal flooding and strong winds could possible given the massive wind field of the storm.
