There is this guy who wrote a fantastic book depicting a scenario that resembles this closely….. first thing I remembered watching these news today. “white Sun war” is amazing by @WarintheFuture

With large exercises like this, the PLA gets three strategic returns:
1. Normalises large-scale activity around #Taiwan, to deceive about future intentions.
2. Bullies and seeks to coerce the democratic government of #Taiwan.
3. Projects an air of “inevitability” to the region/world about its eventual takeover of Taiwan. Of course it is not inevitable, but CCP is using the same propaganda playbook as Putin in #Ukraine.

RT @WarintheFuture: Another deliberate act of Russian barbarism met with more western hand-wringing, risk aversion, escalation terror and parsimony in producing resources for Ukraine. Western strategy must change - no more ‘we’ll be here to the end” but a shift to “defeat Russia in #Ukraine now”. The West’s current approach is a ‘strategy for defeat’ and another reason China feels free to act aggressively against #Taiwan and others.

RT @AndrewSErickson: "Chunghwa Telecom has activated a microwave backup system to maintain communications between #Taiwan proper and Lienchiang County (#Matsu) after a #submarine #cable linking the areas was disconnected on Sunday, the Ministry of Digital Affairs said yesterday."

"Communications between Taiwan and Matsu are mainly maintained through two submarine cables: Taima No. 2 (台馬二號) and Taima No. 3 (台馬三號)."

"Last month, communications were slightly disrupted after Taima No. 3 and part of Taima No. 2 were disconnected due to natural deterioration."

"However, the nation’s largest telecom on Sunday informed the National Communications and Cyber Security Center that Taima No. 2, installed off New Taipei City, was completely disconnected, the ministry said, adding that the cause of the disconnection had yet to be determined."

"The telecom has also notified the Coast Guard Administration and requested its assistance in its investigation into whether the submarine cable was deliberately disconnected, it said."

"Chunghwa Telecom has been asked to activate its microwave backup system, through which voice and data communications between Taiwan and Matsu can be maintained, it said." ... ... ...
