The U.S. FDA approved Bristol Myers Squibb's oral combination treatment for patients with a rare form of blood cancer whose illness had relapsed or ‌not responded to other treatments. Full approval for the drug for this condition will be contingent on the verification of clinical benefit in the confirmatory trials.

🦮 This Bengaluru startup is training dogs and AI to sniff out cancer early

A dog’s nose has long outclassed most laboratory kit, and a two-year-old Bengaluru startup called Dognosis pairs trained sniffer dogs with sensors and AI to flag early signs of cancer from a single breath sample.

A breath sample
is collected via mask and couriered to Dognosis's facility. There, trained dogs sniff the sample while sensors and AI translate their movements, respiration, and body language into structured data, based on the premise that tumours leave a chemical signature in breath that dogs can detect before conventional tools can.

Dognosis says its approach targets more than 20 cancer types across seven groups, including breast, oral cavity, lung and cervical. In Phase 2 trials published in the Journal of Clinical Oncology, the company reports roughly 90% sensitivity for early-stage cancers. Dogs trained on 10 cancer types, it adds, went on to identify an 11th they had never been shown.

This is a prescreening tool designed to flag who should seek further tests, not a replacement for diagnosis, and the trials remain early.

🤑 How does Stellar stack up to private blockchains and other public ones?

When institutions settle money onchain, five things matter: resilience, control, finality, compliance, and cost. Here’s how they stack up. Behind these differences is a more basic question: who holds the network together, and why? 🤔

❗️JoseFDaPonte explains how the Stellar network's consensus model works, and why MoneyGram, Figure, and Range have chosen to help secure it.

🔜 MoneyGram, Figure, and Range are expected to be fully integrated into the Stellar network’s quorum configuration by mid-August 2026. Once that happens, their validators will participate in consensus and coordinate with the other Tier 1 operators on future protocol upgrades.

🔜 These companies came to Stellar to build products and serve customers. They are now taking on the work required to keep the network operating.

That is the answer to why an institution would run infrastructure it could otherwise just use. Once a network becomes part of your business, keeping it running becomes part of the business too.

🤖 Bitcoin firms ask AI labs for same tools attackers already have

More than three dozen bitcoin and crypto companies have asked the largest AI labs to give open-source security researchers early access to their most capable models, arguing that the people defending a trillion dollars of infrastructure are working with weaker tools than those attacking it.

📝The letter, organised by the Bitcoin Policy Institute and published earlier this week, is signed by Coinbase, Block, BitGo, Blockstream, Anchorage Digital, ARK Invest, Bitwise, Foundry, Casa, Exodus and others, alongside nonprofit developer funds including Brink, Chaincode and Btrust.

The signatories are asking for five things: Early access to the strongest cyber-capable models, including before public release, enough computing budget to run meaningful reviews, secure environments for examining private code, eligibility for small and independent maintainers rather than only large firms, and a direct line to lab security teams for reporting what they find.

🤖 OpenAI introduces ‘Ultrafast,’ a new mode that makes GPT-5.6 Sol work at 14x the speed

The company says that Ultrafast can work at 14x the speed of standard processing, delivering up to 750 output tokens — such tokens represent the distinct pieces of text generated by an LLM when it interacts with a human — per second.

🇯🇵 MUFG to test real-time blockchain settlement for Japanese government bond trades

Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group (MUFG) is preparing a proof-of-concept for onchain Japanese government bond (JGB) transactions using the Canton network to expedite the settlement, which typically takes 1-3 days by traditional means.

⏰ The Tokyo-based bank expects to improve the operational and capital efficiency of repo transactions — the purchase of securities as a form of short-term borrowing and lending — through real-time 24/7 onchain settlement.

🔜 Blockchain-based intraday U.S. Treasury-bond repos have existed for several years through JPMorgan’s Kinexys network, which went live in 2020.

“Given their high credit worthiness and liquidity, JGBs are widely used as collateral for repo transactions by market participants in Japan and overseas, and momentum for bringing them onchain is growing,” — MUFG said.

The project forms part of a broader array of MUFG initiatives exploring the use of blockchain technology in traditional financial functions. 🚀
