With equipment that fits into a single rocket launch, Martian dirt, water, and air can be transformed into enough building materials to construct a small city.
The breakthrough: the first microbe designed for Mars. Pioneer Labs identified a highly capable microbe on Earth and used evolution to teach it to source all the nutrients it needs directly from Martian materials.
One day, the first astronauts could arrive to find safe shelters already stocked with water, oxygen, and rocket fuel for the journey home. This marks a first step toward using biology to make Mars more habitable β living off the land while building the next great frontier.
And itβs only the first of five organisms needed to green Mars.

βI think everyone would like to have a future where they can have their own personal robots. And then I think you'll see many companies where it's one person with hundreds, maybe thousands of robots. Like physical robots as well as digital robots.
So the productivity of one person will be greatly amplified. And my prediction is that there will be effectively universal high income. In fact, it's not clear to me that money will even matter in the future,β β Musk said.

The digital ruble became a full-fledged payment instrument following its mass rollout on September 1, 2026, according to Russian President Vladimir Putin. 36 Russian banks are now connected to the digital ruble platform, with nearly 200,000 accounts already opened by citizens.
βThe launch of the digital ruble went according to plan. This is an event we have prepared for very carefully. Citizens and businesses now have a new additional tool for making payments and settlements. In essence, our country now has all the components of a national payment infrastructure,β β said Bank of Russia Governor Elvira Nabiullina.

An XRP Ledger account could soon let another account make payments or approve customers on its behalf without handing over the keys that control everything else.
The upgrade could make the XRP Ledger more appealing as decentralized layer 1 infrastructure for institutional payments by allowing stablecoin issuers, custodians and other businesses to separate routine operations from the keys that secure their accounts.
That would let compliance and payment systems perform narrowly defined tasks without giving them broad authority over an issuerβs assets.

The Trump administration is preparing a plan to ban exports of diesel for 90 days, despite splits inside the administration and with the oil industry, in a bid to bring down energy prices. The legal process for such a ban remains unclear, though President Donald Trump is inclined to put a ban forward by weekβs end.

China has launched 9 satellites β including its first integrated βrocket and satelliteβ AI computing project β as part of its push to put AI computing in orbit. The Kinetica 1 Y18 rocket, operated by Chinese commercial launch provider CAS Space, lifted off on September 20, carrying the nine satellites to their planned orbits.
The payload of greatest interest is the βSupercomputing-1β satellite. Also known as the S-AIDC-1, the satellite is designed to capture and process Earth-observation data in orbit instead of sending data back to terrestrial data centers. Keeping the processing local is meant to cut cross-regional data processing times from hours to minutes. The satellite features both a high-res optical payload and the image-processing AI computer.

βBiological enhancement with Neuralink. We want to try to solve the bandwidth constraint that humans have. Even in the most benign scenario where the AI is super friendly and wants to do everything it wants to make you happy, our rate of communication is too slow.
So, the peak human bandwidth is only about 100 bits per second, roughly. Our input bandwidth is much higher because of vision, you know, a megabit per second or a few megabits per second from our eyes, which are affected by cameras. But our output bandwidth is really low.
Computers are communicating at a trillion bits per second. Anything we can do to increase the communication speed of humans will improve, I think, the alignment of humans and machines, because otherwise to an AI that is communicating at a terabit a second, talking to a human will be like talking to a tree.β

AI could be one of the biggest drivers for digital asset adoption as autonomous agents begin buying services, moving money and sourcing computing power, according to a BlackRock paper.
The asset manager argues that AI provides βmachine-native intelligenceβ while digital assets provide the payment and settlement infrastructure agents may need to act on their decisions. An agent carrying out a task could, for example, pay for a data request, book a service or purchase computing capacity without waiting for a person to to complete.
Stablecoins are likely to be the first major beneficiary. Their relatively stable value makes them useful for pricing services, while blockchain networks can support payments around the clock. BlackRock highlights Coinbase x402 protocol as one emerging way agents to pay for online resources, including API calls. It also acknowledges that existing payments networks are adapting to agentic commerce.

Spectra is the first yield tokenization protocol on the Stellar network. It can support a wide range of assets issued on Stellar, from the popular ones to the expanding RWA sector.
βRWAs are a big part of Stellar's direction, with the DTCC connecting its tokenization service to the network next year. Fixed-term markets fit that direction. Great to see Spectra positioned for this,β β Gaspard Peduzzi, Co-founder of Spectra, said.
The deployment brings fixed-income markets to Stellar assets, traded through an order book. Yield that already accrues on the network becomes tradable at a rate its holder sets.

𧬠Claude discovers a novel enzyme system with CRISPR-like repeats
Many discoveries that have revolutionized biology and medicine started with a scientist noticing something odd in the staggering diversity of molecular machines found in nature. CRISPR was first noticed as an unusual repeat sequence in the DNA of certain bacteria, and is now the foundation of gene editing-based medicines.
Claude has discovered a previously unknown enzyme system hidden in the DNA of bacteriophages. Beside the enzymeβs gene sits a long array of repeating DNA β a structure that looks somewhat similar to CRISPR.
The system that Claude found is based on a reverse transcriptase (RT), enzymes that copy RNA into DNA. While this underlying RT, found in a jumbo phage, had been identified in previous studies, Claude appears to be the first to notice the systemβs defining features β an associated array of non-coding DNA sequences and an additional accessory protein of unknown function.

βThis is an exciting example of how AI agents can contribute to biological discovery. The identification of RNA-repeat arrays associated with reverse transcriptases is genuinely intriguing and merits further investigation.
I hope this work encourages more scientists to explore how AI can support their research,β β Feng Zhang, one of the pioneers of CRISPR genome editing and a professor at MIT and the Broad Institute said.

The Trump administration is considering an initiative to promote the use of dollar-denominated stablecoins overseas in a bid to reinforce the greenbackβs status as the worldβs reserve asset.
Stablecoin projects are among the areas the US government is considering supporting by creating joint ventures with private sector firms, with the aim of maintaining the US dollarβs currency preeminence and boosting demand for US Treasuries.
Stablecoin issuers typically hold reserves backing their tokens in cash and short-term government debt. The effort could stretch across multiple federal agencies, including the Treasury Department and the State Department. The US International Development Finance Corp. could also be involved.

Clients of IBM Digital Asset Haven, its platform for managing and securing digital assets, can now connect to permissioned blockchain networks, including Swift's blockchain-based shared ledger, IBM said Thursday.
IBM said financial institutions participating in Swift's program have already tested tokenized deposits on the ledger using Digital Asset Haven. The ledger supports bank-issued tokenized deposits and is built to allow participating IBM clients to move digital assets 24/7, with final settlement taking place through existing systems.
The messaging adapter lets banks build on existing payment message formats and operational processes rather than blockchain-specific workflows.
