๐Ÿ‡ฉ๐Ÿ‡ช Deutsche Bank close to debuting crypto custody for institutions

Deutsche Bankโ€™s (DB) digital asset custody service is set to go live by the end of the year. Germanyโ€™s largest bank said the service, subject to the completion of applicable regulatory checks, will give European institutional and corporate clients regulated custody of digital assets.

โ—๏ธThe service will support a select range of cryptocurrencies at debut, including BTC and ETH and stablecoins like USDC and EURC.

โ€œDigital assets are not a replacement for the traditional financial system but an important complement to it,โ€ โ€” Deutscheโ€™s co-head of corporate bank, Gerald Podobnik, said.

โ€œWe see them as new rails that coexist with existing marketing infrastructures. The service will be developed in line with client demand, regulatory requirements and the bankโ€™s risk appetite,โ€ โ€” Podobnik added.

โšก๏ธ๐Ÿง  Part-human part-mouse brain developed in science breakthrough

Researchers have created mice with half-human brains in an effort to understand and develop new treatments for disorders such as schizophrenia, epilepsy, cerebral palsy, intellectual disability and rare forms of dementia.

The scientists transplanted lab-grown human brain cells into animals that were engineered to be born without a cortex or hippocampus. This made space for the human tissue to grow inside the rodentsโ€™ skulls.

The procedure means scientists can now take cells from patients with brain disorders, turn them into brain tissue in the laboratory, and grow that tissue in living animals. The animals can then be studied to see how the disorder takes hold in human brain tissue, and how drugs might treat the conditions.

๐Ÿ”ฅ Arc Mainnet Is Live: The Economic OS for the Internet

Arc launches as the Economic OS for the internet: an open platform for global markets, real-time value movement, tokenized assets, and agentic economic activity.

๐Ÿ”œ It launches as a full-stack financial platform with assets, applications, interoperability, developer infrastructure, and Circle platform services live from day one.

๐Ÿ”œ Arc delivers USDC as native gas, deterministic sub-second finality, EVM compatibility, and institutional validators. It integrates with Arc Studio, App Kits, Arc Portal, Circle Agent Stack, CCTP, Gateway, CPN, and StableFX.

๐Ÿš€ Arc launches with infrastructure for:

โ†’ Agentic economic workflows
โ†’ Lending and borrowing
โ†’ Trading and liquidity
โ†’ Onchain FX
โ†’ Payments and settlement
โ†’ Tokenized assets
โ†’ Exchanges, wallets, custody, compliance, data, and developer tooling

โ—๏ธ BlackRock, DTCC, Intercontinental Exchange, Mastercard, Standard Chartered and Visa are among Arcโ€™s founding validators, while BNY, HSBC and State Street are some of the 100+ institutions and ecosystem companies live on or exploring the network.

โ€œThis is, I believe, the most consequential major platform launch in our history, and I think an even more consequential launch than USDC itself,โ€ โ€” said Circle CEO Jeremy Allaire.

Separately, Circle and DTCC plan to enable tokenization of DTC-custodied assets on Arc beginning in the second half of 2027.

โšก๏ธ๐Ÿง‘โ€โš–๏ธ U.S. House's tax committee advances crypto tax bill in wake of Clarity Act loss

At a Wednesday hearing known as a markup, the panel voted 38-5 to endorse the Digital Asset Tax Certainty Act and forward it to the rest of the House, signalling massive bipartisan support for the measure.

๐Ÿ”˜Among the provisions is a de minimis exception for certain fees paid in crypto. Someone paying a qualifying network or transaction fee in crypto would not have to record a gain or loss if the fee is $10 or less.

๐Ÿ”˜The bill also addresses small deviations from the $1 peg for qualifying U.S. dollar stablecoins, generally treating their redemption value as the tax basis if acquired close enough to that value.

๐Ÿ”˜Taxpayers could also opt for simplified annual accounting for widely traded digital assets. Both the fee provision and accounting change would start in 2028.

The legislation also addresses how crypto income would be recognized for tax purposes, transfers, wash sale rules, mining, staking and requirements for brokers, and it generally seeks to ensure that digital assets get similar treatment as other assets.

๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ณ๐Ÿค– Chinese scientists build worldโ€™s smallest CT scanner, weighing just 6kg

Chinese researchers have developed the worldโ€™s smallest CT scanner. Built by the Shandong province-based Rayim, the Xtomo-Cube is about the size of a desktop speaker and weighs just 6kg (13.2lbs).

CT uses X-rays from multiple angles to create detailed 3D images of internal structures. It is widely used in hospitals to detect tumours and injuries, and in archaeology and industry to examine objects without damaging them. Despite their expanding uses, CT scanners have remained big, heavy machines.

The challenge was fitting the X-ray source, detector and rotating platform into a four-litre package while maintaining image quality. Its small size and relatively low-energy X-rays could also make it useful in university classrooms and research labs.

๐Ÿ“น Hackers rip down Flock camera, steal its data, share findings with media

A group of hackers ripped down a Flock camera and stole its data, finding that the camerasโ€™ software can generate dozens of images from a single passing vehicle to develop its signature. The outlets found that in a 21-day period the camera photographed roughly 50,200 vehicles and generated about 1.6 million images.

The outlets stated that the camera generally captures around 28 images from a single encounter with a vehicle, though some can produce more than 100, and sends photos and other data to Flock through a cellular network. They noted that the camera does not identify vehicles or read plates, stating that this analysis appears to happen on Flockโ€™s servers.

โ€œWe liberated hardware in the field, disarmed them, and proceeded with reverse engineering of the cameras and associated solar equipment.

Why just destroy them when we can reverse engineer them and find the secrets of those spying on us?โ€ โ€” one hacker said.

Unauthorized removal or tampering with a Flock camera is illegal.

๐Ÿ Apple is baking AI image detection into its newest iPhones

Generative AI has become so good and AI slop has become so prolific online that when you see an interesting picture, you may immediately want to ask whether it's real or not. ๐Ÿค”

With Apple's Reference Image feature, iPhone 18 Pro users can create digital backups of their photos that can then be compared to reproductions or edited versions. Reference Image, in addition to variable aperture, was a new photography feature Apple announced at its iPhone Duo and iPhone 18 Pro launch event last week.

When a user takes a photo with the iPhone 18 Pro, the camera's main sensor cryptographically signs the raw image that gets sent to Apple's Private Cloud Compute service. Think of it like a negative from a film camera: it's a reference version of the photo that can't be altered, but can be compared to the developed photograph for any alterations.

๐Ÿค‘ Ripple adds XRP payments to Stripe and Tempoโ€™s AI standard in new developer kit

Ripple has expanded its XRP Ledger developer kit to support a payments standard created by Stripe and Tempo, giving builders another way to make AI agents pay for data, computing and other online services using crypto.

โ—๏ธVersion 1.1 of the XRPL AI Starter Kit adds support for the Machine Payments Protocol, or MPP, and the Open Wallet Standard, which lets software manage wallets across multiple blockchains through a common interface, according to a RippleX developer post.

โ€œOur job is to make XRP and RLUSD first-class options wherever developers are building,โ€ โ€” RippleX head of product Jazzi Cooper wrote on X.

๐Ÿ”œ Ripple added support for x402, another standard for web payments, in June and MPP now, backing both rather than betting on either.

๐Ÿ”œ MPP gives an AI agent, software that can carry out tasks on a userโ€™s behalf, a way to pay as it works. A service responds to a request with a price, the agent authorizes payment, and the service delivers the requested resource.

Payments company Stripe and Tempo, a blockchain built for payments, co-authored the standard. ๐Ÿš€

โšก๏ธ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ SEC releases long-awaited innovation exemption to 'bring America's capital markets into the digital age'

The SEC debuted its long-anticipated "innovation exemption", which Chair Paul Atkins says will bring capital markets in the U.S. into a new digital era by allowing onchain trading of tokenized stocks. The exemption goes into effect immediately.

Tokenization has the potential to modernize core market infrastructure functions, such as issuance, trading, transfer, settlement, and recording ownership, with the potential to reduce costs, enhance transparency, and expand liquidity. This may be particularly true for assets that have historically been less liquid.

The exemption would exempt certain trading venues, called tokenized securities venues, from being defined as an exchange and also exempts specific liquidity providers from being defined as a dealer under securities law when they trade stocks or provide liquidity through automated market makers, i.e. smart contracts.

Those exempt venues would have to comply with sanctions rules. The exemption does not include synthetics โ€” financial instruments that replicate the price of an asset without directly owning it โ€” and issuers can deny their security from trading on the venue.

๐Ÿค– OpenAI discloses six new AI safety incidents

OpenAI disclosed six new incidents in which its models concealed mistakes, sought unauthorized credentials, uploaded files to the public internet or communicated across supposedly isolated training environments. The company also announced a new procedure for reporting similar misbehavior in the future.

๐Ÿ”˜An unreleased Astra-family model inserted jailbreak-like instructions into its own context summaries, including directions to ignore developer messages. OpenAI identified 27 affected summaries.
๐Ÿ”˜During GPT-5.6 Sol training, models aimed to conceal mistakes, invent missing historical data and hide mismatches between source versions.
๐Ÿ”˜A model searched public GitHub repositories for exposed API keys and attempted to use disposable email accounts before fabricating earnings data when it could not retrieve the requested information.
๐Ÿ”˜Models uploaded data and a task image to public file-hosting services on two occasions in October and January to obtain citations or external image-search results, without asking the user.
๐Ÿ”˜Models used OpenAI's internal Artifactory repository as a message board to exchange requests and answers across separate training samples.
๐Ÿ”˜Collaborating agents uploaded a workbook to public hosting services so other agents could retrieve it, despite instructions to use only local files.

To address similar issues going forward, OpenAI says any employee may flag a suspected case for review by safety and alignment teams. Cases will be placed on a "ready for disclosure," "minor investigation" or "larger investigation" track.

"We hope it really helps inform shared standards and regulations," โ€” Kai Chen, research lead on the alignment team at OpenAI, said.
