πŸ€– AI agents will soon buy their own computing power and data using stablecoins, according to BlackRock

AI could be one of the biggest drivers for digital asset adoption as autonomous agents begin buying services, moving money and sourcing computing power, according to a BlackRock paper.

The asset manager argues that AI provides β€œmachine-native intelligence” while digital assets provide the payment and settlement infrastructure agents may need to act on their decisions. An agent carrying out a task could, for example, pay for a data request, book a service or purchase computing capacity without waiting for a person to to complete.

Stablecoins are likely to be the first major beneficiary. Their relatively stable value makes them useful for pricing services, while blockchain networks can support payments around the clock. BlackRock highlights Coinbase x402 protocol as one emerging way agents to pay for online resources, including API calls. It also acknowledges that existing payments networks are adapting to agentic commerce.

πŸ€‘ Spectra is now live on Stellar with several markets facilitated by the orderbook!

Spectra is the first yield tokenization protocol on the Stellar network. It can support a wide range of assets issued on Stellar, from the popular ones to the expanding RWA sector.

πŸ”œ One of the first markets is deJTRSY, the Janus Henderson treasury fund tokenized by Centrifuge. The order book underpins this deployment, bringing efficiency to the Spectra protocol and positioning it for further growth, no longer bound to the AMM Curve.

πŸ”œ One can post a limit order straight from a wallet at whatever rate they want, and it just sits there until someone takes it. No price impact at any size and nothing gets locked up while the order rests in the book.

❗️Market creation becomes much easier with the OB in place.

β€œRWAs are a big part of Stellar's direction, with the DTCC connecting its tokenization service to the network next year. Fixed-term markets fit that direction. Great to see Spectra positioned for this,” β€” Gaspard Peduzzi, Co-founder of Spectra, said.

The deployment brings fixed-income markets to Stellar assets, traded through an order book. Yield that already accrues on the network becomes tradable at a rate its holder sets.

🧬 Claude discovers a novel enzyme system with CRISPR-like repeats

Many discoveries that have revolutionized biology and medicine started with a scientist noticing something odd in the staggering diversity of molecular machines found in nature. CRISPR was first noticed as an unusual repeat sequence in the DNA of certain bacteria, and is now the foundation of gene editing-based medicines.

Claude has discovered a previously unknown enzyme system hidden in the DNA of bacteriophages. Beside the enzyme’s gene sits a long array of repeating DNA β€” a structure that looks somewhat similar to CRISPR.

The system that Claude found is based on a reverse transcriptase (RT), enzymes that copy RNA into DNA. While this underlying RT, found in a jumbo phage, had been identified in previous studies, Claude appears to be the first to notice the system’s defining features β€” an associated array of non-coding DNA sequences and an additional accessory protein of unknown function.

β€œThis is an exciting example of how AI agents can contribute to biological discovery. The identification of RNA-repeat arrays associated with reverse transcriptases is genuinely intriguing and merits further investigation.

I hope this work encourages more scientists to explore how AI can support their research,” β€” Feng Zhang, one of the pioneers of CRISPR genome editing and a professor at MIT and the Broad Institute said.

πŸ’ΈπŸ‡ΊπŸ‡ΈUS Weighs Initiative to Promote Dollar-Backed Stablecoin Abroad

The Trump administration is considering an initiative to promote the use of dollar-denominated stablecoins overseas in a bid to reinforce the greenback’s status as the world’s reserve asset.

Stablecoin projects
are among the areas the US government is considering supporting by creating joint ventures with private sector firms, with the aim of maintaining the US dollar’s currency preeminence and boosting demand for US Treasuries.

Stablecoin issuers typically hold reserves backing their tokens in cash and short-term government debt. The effort could stretch across multiple federal agencies, including the Treasury Department and the State Department. The US International Development Finance Corp. could also be involved.

⚑️πŸ”₯ IBM connects Digital Asset Haven to Swift blockchain ledger for tokenized deposit transactions

Clients of IBM Digital Asset Haven, its platform for managing and securing digital assets, can now connect to permissioned blockchain networks, including Swift's blockchain-based shared ledger, IBM said Thursday.

❗️A new beta ISO 20022 messaging adapter lets institutions instruct tokenized deposit transactions through the ledger using standard payment messages.

IBM said financial institutions participating in Swift's program have already tested tokenized deposits on the ledger using Digital Asset Haven. The ledger supports bank-issued tokenized deposits and is built to allow participating IBM clients to move digital assets 24/7, with final settlement taking place through existing systems.

The messaging adapter lets banks build on existing payment message formats and operational processes rather than blockchain-specific workflows. πŸš€

πŸ’ΈπŸ‡¬πŸ‡§ UK’s largest banks complete world’s first interbank transactions using tokenized deposits

The U.K.'s largest banks executed the world’s first customer transaction using tokenized British pound deposits on a share platform. The money movement included remortgage payments and a test of a consumer purchase.

The project is testing whether regulated bank money can move in tokenized form between institutions and in retail payments. Barclays, HSBC, Lloyds Banking Group, Monzo, Nationwide, NatWest and Santander took part in the Great British Tokenized Deposit initiative. The platform was built by Quant, a distributed ledger technology (DLT) service provider.

βš‘οΈπŸ§‘β€βš–οΈ Federal Reserve Seeks Public Comment on GENIUS Act Stablecoin Rules

The Federal Reserve Board on Thursday requested public comment on two proposals related to establishing a regulatory framework for Board-supervised payment stablecoin issuers under the GENIUS Act.

πŸ”œ The first proposal would require that Board-supervised payment stablecoin issuers fully back their stablecoins with certain permissible reserve assets, such as short-term Treasury bills and certain other high-quality, liquid assets.

🟠The proposal would also establish standardized capital requirements to address certain credit and operational risks of payment stablecoin activities, as well as risk management standards, in accordance with the law.

🟠Separately, the proposal would introduce rules for Board-supervised firms that safekeep the assets backing payment stablecoins. It would also clarify the permissibility of stablecoin and related activities for Board-supervised banks.

πŸ”œ The second proposal would establish a tailored application process for Board-supervised banks applying to issue payment stablecoins. These applicants would be required to submit a business plan and financial information, among other documents. The proposal would also create a process governing appeals, hearings, and final determinations for applications.

The comment period will close 60 days after publication in the Federal Register.

😺 OpenAI hacked Medicare portal, Australia Prime Minister Anthony Albanese says

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has revealed an AI agent hacked into an Australian Medicare data portal earlier this year. The AI agent accessed both public and non-public files.

The agent was conducting research into public medical spending when it found a way to break through privacy protections. Albanese said it took 3 months for OpenAI to admit the breach, which he said was unacceptable.

"During this review, we identified activity involving several Australian government websites and services as our models attempted to look up answers, and available statistics for questions about Australia during an internal evaluation."

"In the course of that, our models took actions we did not intend. Our review found no evidence of patient records being accessed. The information accessed included aggregate health statistics and internal file names," β€” an OpenAI spokesperson said.

Albanese announced a taskforce would be set up to provide an "urgent and immediate review" of the incident. OpenAI's overall review was ongoing and it remained "committed to transparency".
