😺 OpenAI Will Add A Digital Watermark To Text And Code Generated In The EU

OpenAI just announced its plans to comply with part of the European Union's new AI transparency rules. The company will soon begin adding an invisible watermark to text and code generated in the EU. This follows a similar move by Anthropic earlier this year.

OpenAI is using a proprietary system called textGrain that "adds an invisible statistical signal to the model's word choices." Once added, a detector can spot these signals and ascertain if there's a watermark.

β˜€οΈPentagon Backs Ambitious Plan to Beam Solar Power From Space

The U.S. Department of Defense has awarded solar company Overview Energy a contract to develop and test a homing beacon for a space-based solar system designed to beam power from orbit to Earth.

Orbital solar panels could capture sunlight 24/7, avoiding the intermittency of terrestrial solar. Energy could be transmitted to Earth via lasers or microwaves, potentially reducing wasted power and easing the growing mismatch between renewable generation and demand. If the technology proves viable, space-based solar could become a major new source of clean energy.

βš‘οΈπŸ€‘ Blockchain Solutions Provider Ripple and Global Alternative Investment Manager Brevan Howard Deepen Relationship

Ripple and Brevan Howard, a leading global alternative investment manager specializing in global macro and digital assets, today announced that they are deepening their relationship. 🀝

πŸ‘‰ Under the terms of the expanded agreement, Ripple Prime will now provide multi-asset prime brokerage, clearing and financing services to Brevan Howard funds.

πŸ‘‰ This reflects growing demand from top-tier investment managers globally for prime brokerage solutions across traditional and digital markets within a regulated, enterprise-grade framework.

πŸ‘‰ Brevan Howard will now have access to comprehensive prime services spanning asset classes and products, benefiting from Ripple Prime’s unified platform that is designed to enhance capital efficiency and operational simplicity.

β€œThere are few firms equipped to provide the next generation of prime services that sophisticated investors expect, and Brevan Howard’s trust in Ripple Prime is recognition of our strong competitive position and cross-asset capabilities,” β€” said Noel Kimmel, President of Ripple Prime.

The expanded relationship builds on Brevan Howard’s existing support for Ripple. Funds managed by affiliates of Brevan Howard participated in Ripple’s $500 million strategic investment in 2025, underscoring confidence in Ripple’s growth trajectory and long-term vision. πŸš€

πŸ€‘πŸ€‘ Corporate Maps Still File XRP & XLM As β€˜Special’ Banking

A circulating document set is being used to make a simple point: in traditional finance landscape charts, XRP and XLM were never drawn as generic public crypto. They were filed under infrastructure built for institutions.

❗️One widely shared slide, labeled from a BNY Mellon β€œBlocktech in Financial Services” overview, places Ripple and Stellar in a distinct bucket at the base-protocol layer β€” marked apart from broad public networks like Bitcoin and Ethereum. In that framing, they sit closer to specialized settlement and payments infrastructure than to open retail chains.

πŸ‘‰ A second diagram sharpens the same idea. Under β€œOpen Protocols for Institutions,” Ripple is described as a consensus-based protocol designed specifically for existing financial institutions, with direct support for fiat currencies and inter-institution settlement.

πŸ‘‰ Stellar (XLM) is also grouped in the same institutional-finance lane, with a payments-oriented design and fast settlement characteristics.

πŸ‘‰ Ethereum (ETH), by contrast, is characterized through smart contracts and distributed applications; Bitcoin through the original cryptocurrency model.

❗️The documents do not prove that XRP or XLM will dominate bank payments. They do show that, in institutional architecture charts, both were treated as specialized financial-network designs rather than as general-purpose public chains.

That distinction is the whole argument being revived: XRP and XLM were drawn for the banking stack from early on & those old maps still get pulled up whenever the market asks which crypto protocols were built with institutions in mind. πŸ€”

πŸ‡¨πŸ‡³Chinese doctors shrink lung tumour for baby still in mother’s womb, using needle

Chinese doctors have performed an unprecedented surgery to save an unborn child who developed a fast-growing tumour. A medical team from Shenzhen and Hong Kong recently completed a challenging, precise reduction of a foetal chest tumour while the baby was still in the womb, offering new hope to families facing similarly dire prognoses.

Jointly performed by doctors from Shenzhen Baoan Women’s and Children’s Hospital and the Chinese University of Hong Kong, the procedure was detailed and published on August 20 in the peer-reviewed journal Ultrasound in Obstetrics & Gynecology.

πŸ§‘β€βš–οΈ Mike Selig has published videos outlining the newly released rule proposals for Regulation CTX and Regulation CAM

β€œI’m disappointed that Congress failed to get market structure legislation to President Donald J. Trump' desk. But the CFTC has statutory authority and we're going to use it to protect Americans and provide a federally regulated path for crypto,” β€” CFTC Chairman Michael Selig said.

The latest proposals mark another important step toward establishing a more defined regulatory framework for the U.S. digital asset industry. πŸš€

Clearer rules of the road for crypto are on the way. The future of crypto regulation is looking brighter.

🧬 Unlocking plant DNA in hours, instead of years

Scientists are using AI to identify the DNA mutations that give crops valuable traits, like drought resistance and higher yields.

Living Models paired Gemma 4 with BOTANIC-1
, an AI trained on the DNA of 320 plant species. In one test, the system identified the correct yield-related mutation in a melon in under four minutes, ranking it #1 out of 2,494 possibilities.

The bigger goal goes beyond melons: this AI pipeline could dramatically accelerate crop research and help scientists develop climate-resilient crops faster β€” potentially strengthening global food security as the climate changes.

πŸ€– Rogue OpenAI agents behind unauthorized Wikipedia edits

The Wikimedia Foundation says rogue OpenAI agents made unauthorized Wikipedia edits and may have been partially responsible for a May outage.

While investigating whether its websites have also been affected by AI agents, Wikimedia found that OpenAI agents made edits to wikis without prior approval, unsuccessfully tried to exploit a public note-taking tool, and made millions of API requests and data queries while scraping Wikimedia sites.

"We've identified edits to Wikimedia wikis that we believe are from AI agents operated by OpenAI. These edits were not published to pages with visibility to general readers; almost all of them were testing edits in 'sandbox' areas of the wiki," β€” Wikimedia Chief Product and Technology Officer Selena Deckelmann said.

πŸ€– Vitalik Buterin: β€œAI Will Become the New UI for Crypto”

Speaking at OKX’s β€œOKX NOW” 2026 Summit on October 6, Buterin argued that AI could become a primary interface for interacting with blockchains, while warning that the shift would relocate some risks rather than eliminate them.

πŸ’‘He illustrated the idea with a personal example. Buterin said he recently updated his Ethereum Name Service (ENS) record without using a conventional interface, instead having a local AI agent write a script to perform the operation. The task took roughly five minutes.

The example suggests a different model for blockchain interaction: users describe what they want to accomplish, while an AI agent handles the technical steps required to execute the operation. Buterin indicated that these kinds of interactions could become increasingly normal as AI capabilities improve.

πŸ‡·πŸ‡Ί Central Bank of Russia issues Sberbank, VTB, other players licenses to operate on cryptocurrency market

The Central Bank of Russia has added Sberbank and VTB to the digital depository register. VTB Bank has also been added to the register of organizations which can exchange cryptocurrency.

"We expect to open access to trading in digital currencies for a wide range of investors via VTB My Investments and directly via the bank's crypto exchange as early as November and December 2026 respectively," β€” VTB Deputy CEO Vitaly Sergeichuk said.

❗️VTB's broker has already carried out its first digital currency transactions for corporate clients, with settlement handled through a digital depository.

"A stablecoin transaction was concluded with the broker's corporate clients. Settlements were processed via digital accounts at a digital depository based on VTB's depository infrastructure. Blockchain access was facilitated through an upstream digital depository," β€” the bank said, quoting Olga Kim, head of VTB's depository.

Sberbank said on October 5 that it planned to launch its first crypto-currency products on December 1, 2026, though the date depends on the Central Bank's decision regarding the application and whether regulatory acts are ready.

πŸ’Έ Swift blockchain ledger requires key internal layers, Taurus co-founder warns

Swift’s new blockchain-based ledger may be ready for live payments, but banks still need their own digital-asset infrastructure before they can connect to it, according to Lamine Brahimi, co-founder and managing partner of custody and tokenization firm Taurus.

β€œIf you want to connect today to the Swift ledger, you need 🌌 things,” β€” Brahimi said .

β€œYou need your own permissioned ledger that interacts with that of Swift, you need wallet capabilities, and you also need tokenization and smart-contract capabilities to be able to integrate the Swift smart contracts.”

❗️This criteria means Swift’s ledger is a replacement for a bank’s internal systems. It is an orchestration layer designed to enable institutions to move tokenized deposits across borders around the clock, while final settlement continues through existing arrangements.

πŸ‘‰ The banks still need systems to hold and manage tokenized deposits, digital asset wallets and smart contracts used in the process.

Swift said in July that 17 banks were preparing live tokenized-deposit transactions, signalling its first move to modernize its bank messaging system which has dominated the traditional financial sector since the 1970s. It presently still dominates money movements of up to $1.5 quadrillion a year. πŸš€
