🤖 Hackers Use Chinese AI Tool to Hit South Korean Banks, Exposing New Risk

Hackers used a Chinese AI agent to attack South Korea’s biggest banks and steal the personal information of 68,000 people, marking one of the first such AI-powered intrusions into the global financial system.

Investigators in Seoul said the attacks, initially detected last week, hit at least seven South Korean financial firms and showed traces of a cybersecurity tool called Artex AI that was developed in China. The National Police Agency’s cyber terror unit said Tuesday it had opened a probe into the breach.

⚡️🇺🇸 President Donald Trump announces that every eligible minor child in America has been automatically enrolled in the Trump Accounts program

"Today, I'm pleased to announce that every single eligible minor child in America has now been automatically enrolled in a Trump Account," — Trump said.

The Treasury Department announced last week that every eligible child under 18 with a valid Social Security number now has a Trump Account, bringing the total to roughly 70 million accounts, according to the White House.

❗️Parents or guardians must still claim their child's automatically enrolled account before they can manage it or begin receiving contributions.

"If all goes well, which I think it will, they'll end up being quite rich by the time they're 18, and then 21, and as time goes by," — Trump said.

"This money is your child's future. And when you were a child in the old days, your child would hit 18 and there's nothing."

🇰🇿 Tether tapped by Kazakhstan’s central bank to explore stablecoin and tokenization

Kazakhstan's central bank is teaming up with stablecoin giant Tether to explore issuing a digital token tied to the country's currency and putting RWAs on blockchain rails.

❗️The National Bank of Kazakhstan (NBK), Tether and the Alatau City Authority signed a MoU to study stablecoins, asset tokenization and DeFi.

👉 One focus will be a potential stablecoin pegged to the Kazakhstani tenge. The group plans to study how similar tokens work elsewhere, identify possible uses and prepare a proposal for a pilot. The agreement is exploratory and does not amount to a decision to issue the stablecoin.

👉 The partnership also puts tokenization on the agenda. Tokenization creates blockchain-based representations of assets, potentially allowing anything from bonds to real estate to be transferred, traded or used as collateral through digital networks.

The parties will identify which types of assets could be suitable and plan a pilot in Alatau, a city operating under a special legal regime designed in part to encourage financial technology.

🤖 Quantum computers threaten exposed private keys rather than blockchains, Europol warns

Cryptocurrency wallets, rather than blockchains themselves, are the main point of exposure to future quantum-computing attacks, Europol said in a report published Wednesday.

Quantum computers capable of carrying out such attacks do not exist yet, and Europol did not predict when they will. However, the European Union’s law enforcement agency said “proactive adaptation, rather than systemic collapse, is the most likely outcome.”

❗️Europol urged the industry to begin a phased transition now through wallet upgrades, post-quantum cryptography and coordination among developers, miners, exchanges and users.

Bitcoin researchers and institutions increasingly see 2029 as the point by which credible quantum-resistant migration plans need to be in place. IBM said in July that it expects quantum computing to generate significant commercial revenue in the next two to four three years.

🕵🏼‍♂️ CIA officer admits to creating fake top secret government program to steal over $190M, including gold bars

A now-former officer with the Central Intelligence Agency has pleaded guilty to stealing almost $200 million, including hundreds of gold bars, as part of a fraudulent scheme masquerading as a top secret government program.

The U.S. Department of Justice confirmed that David J. Rush, a Virginia resident, admitted to one count of wire fraud linked to running the fabricated operation and defrauding the government while he was a CIA officer.

In a statement, prosecutors said that Rush lied about his education and military experience to gain a position at the CIA, and used his access as an employee to set up the top secret and highly compartmentalized program with the intention of using it to funnel U.S. government funds into his possession.

During his arrest, law enforcement found more than $46 million worth of gold bars in Rush’s house linked to the long-running fraud scheme, along with cars, watches, and over $2 million in cash.

💊 Nobel-Winning Technique Restores Some Vision In Patients With Genetic Form Of Blindness In Promising Early Trial

Led by scientists at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center and the Institute of Molecular Ophthalmology Basel in Switzerland, a new trial demonstrates that optogenetic therapy can be safely used in people with some types of blindness and is a promising approach to partially restoring their sight.

Retinitis pigmentosa (RP) is the name given to a group of genetic conditions in which the retina — the light-sensitive part of the eye — is progressively damaged. Symptoms usually begin with a loss of night vision and progress from there, generally affecting both eyes.

The technique involves adding light-sensitive proteins to cells, and patients wear special goggles that produce pulses of amber light that the proteins react to. In the phase 1 trial, 10 patients received the treatment. 6 participants experienced clinically meaningful improvements in light sensitivity in the treated eye, suggesting the visual system can adapt to the new signals.

The treatment does not restore normal vision — participants could not read or recognize faces — but researchers say the results are an encouraging first step toward developing new treatments for people with otherwise untreatable forms of blindness.

“These results show that even in people with profound vision loss, the visual system retains a remarkable capacity to process new information,” — said Professor José-Alain Sahel.

🤑🤑 CFTC Chair Name-Drops 6 Cryptos as "Digital Commodities": Which Coins Are on the List

Commodity Futures Trading Commission Chairman Michael Selig has highlighted Bitcoin, Ether, Solana, Stellar, Tezos and XRP as examples of digital commodities while outlining a potential federal framework for retail crypto trading.

The six assets, BTC, ETH, SOL, XLM, XTZ and XRP, appear in the SEC and CFTC's existing crypto taxonomy, which Selig referenced in his Oct. 5 remarks at the Fordham Law Blockchain Regulatory Symposium.

His comments reinforce an established agency interpretation rather than announce six new classifications.

🧑‍⚖️ McDonald’s Hit With Antitrust Suit Over AI-Assisted Menu Pricing

McDonald's has been hit by a class action suit over AI-powered menu price-fixing.

The class action suit says, "McDonald's has been sued in federal court in Chicago in a proposed nationwide class action alleging the fast-food company illegally ‌coordinates menu prices across its franchises and company-owned restaurants through an AI-powered pricing system."

At the heart of the suit is the use of algorithms to help set prices without undercutting sales. Allegedly, the system applied to both franchises and company-owned restaurants. If allowed, it could change retail considerably.

⚡️🤑🤑 October 2026: IMF Report Finds Tokenized Assets Concentrated Across Leading Blockchain Networks, Including Stellar and Ripple

The Fund notes that some financial institutions are choosing permission-less DLT networks to issue regulated stablecoins. The concrete example given is Société Générale’s euro-backed stablecoin, EUR CoinVertible (EURCV), which has been deployed on Ethereum, Solana, Stellar, and the XRP Ledger.

IMF documents have named the XRP Ledger and Stellar (XLM), alongside Ethereum (ETH) and Solana (SOL) in the context of a major European bank issuing a regulated stablecoin on public chains. That includes support for SWIFT-compliant banks all across the globe too.

💊 University of Chicago trial reports insulin independence in all 12 Type 1 diabetes participants

A clinical trial at the University of Chicago has reported that all 12 participants with Type 1 diabetes achieved insulin independence after receiving transplanted pancreatic islet cells combined with a new immunosuppressive regimen.

The procedure infuses donor islet cells into the liver via the portal vein, where they engraft and resume insulin production, while the experimental drug protocol aims to prevent immune rejection without the toxicity of standard transplant immunosuppression.

Researchers presented the early results as a potential functional cure, noting that every participant in the cohort has remained free of exogenous insulin since transplant.

⚡️🇺🇸 US bars Microsoft, Adobe, and major IT firms from green card program for skilled foreign workers

The Trump administration is suspending Microsoft, Adobe, and several other technology companies from a program that helps skilled foreign workers obtain permanent residency in the United States, accusing the companies of fraud.

“Our message to Microsoft is: You’re a great American company, but you’ve got to hire great American workers,” — U.S. Vice President JD Vance said.

The other firms being suspended from the program include Capgemini, Cognizant, HCL, Infosys, Tata, and Wipro. Secretary of Labor Keith Sonderling said the government would not accept any new or pending permanent labor certification applications involving these companies.

Vance also said the administration would investigate nine universities, including Harvard, Yale, and Stanford, over allegations they’re abusing a program that allows international students to come to the U.S. and were using the program to undermine wages for American workers.
