Cryptocurrency wallets, rather than blockchains themselves, are the main point of exposure to future quantum-computing attacks, Europol said in a report published Wednesday.
Quantum computers capable of carrying out such attacks do not exist yet, and Europol did not predict when they will. However, the European Union’s law enforcement agency said “proactive adaptation, rather than systemic collapse, is the most likely outcome.”
Bitcoin researchers and institutions increasingly see 2029 as the point by which credible quantum-resistant migration plans need to be in place. IBM said in July that it expects quantum computing to generate significant commercial revenue in the next two to four three years.

🕵🏼♂️ CIA officer admits to creating fake top secret government program to steal over $190M, including gold bars
A now-former officer with the Central Intelligence Agency has pleaded guilty to stealing almost $200 million, including hundreds of gold bars, as part of a fraudulent scheme masquerading as a top secret government program.
The U.S. Department of Justice confirmed that David J. Rush, a Virginia resident, admitted to one count of wire fraud linked to running the fabricated operation and defrauding the government while he was a CIA officer.
In a statement, prosecutors said that Rush lied about his education and military experience to gain a position at the CIA, and used his access as an employee to set up the top secret and highly compartmentalized program with the intention of using it to funnel U.S. government funds into his possession.
During his arrest, law enforcement found more than $46 million worth of gold bars in Rush’s house linked to the long-running fraud scheme, along with cars, watches, and over $2 million in cash.

Led by scientists at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center and the Institute of Molecular Ophthalmology Basel in Switzerland, a new trial demonstrates that optogenetic therapy can be safely used in people with some types of blindness and is a promising approach to partially restoring their sight.
Retinitis pigmentosa (RP) is the name given to a group of genetic conditions in which the retina — the light-sensitive part of the eye — is progressively damaged. Symptoms usually begin with a loss of night vision and progress from there, generally affecting both eyes.
The technique involves adding light-sensitive proteins to cells, and patients wear special goggles that produce pulses of amber light that the proteins react to. In the phase 1 trial, 10 patients received the treatment. 6 participants experienced clinically meaningful improvements in light sensitivity in the treated eye, suggesting the visual system can adapt to the new signals.
The treatment does not restore normal vision — participants could not read or recognize faces — but researchers say the results are an encouraging first step toward developing new treatments for people with otherwise untreatable forms of blindness.
“These results show that even in people with profound vision loss, the visual system retains a remarkable capacity to process new information,” — said Professor José-Alain Sahel.

Commodity Futures Trading Commission Chairman Michael Selig has highlighted Bitcoin, Ether, Solana, Stellar, Tezos and XRP as examples of digital commodities while outlining a potential federal framework for retail crypto trading.
The six assets, BTC, ETH, SOL, XLM, XTZ and XRP, appear in the SEC and CFTC's existing crypto taxonomy, which Selig referenced in his Oct. 5 remarks at the Fordham Law Blockchain Regulatory Symposium.
His comments reinforce an established agency interpretation rather than announce six new classifications.

McDonald's has been hit by a class action suit over AI-powered menu price-fixing.
The class action suit says, "McDonald's has been sued in federal court in Chicago in a proposed nationwide class action alleging the fast-food company illegally coordinates menu prices across its franchises and company-owned restaurants through an AI-powered pricing system."
At the heart of the suit is the use of algorithms to help set prices without undercutting sales. Allegedly, the system applied to both franchises and company-owned restaurants. If allowed, it could change retail considerably.

The Fund notes that some financial institutions are choosing permission-less DLT networks to issue regulated stablecoins. The concrete example given is Société Générale’s euro-backed stablecoin, EUR CoinVertible (EURCV), which has been deployed on Ethereum, Solana, Stellar, and the XRP Ledger.
IMF documents have named the XRP Ledger and Stellar (XLM), alongside Ethereum (ETH) and Solana (SOL) in the context of a major European bank issuing a regulated stablecoin on public chains. That includes support for SWIFT-compliant banks all across the globe too.

A clinical trial at the University of Chicago has reported that all 12 participants with Type 1 diabetes achieved insulin independence after receiving transplanted pancreatic islet cells combined with a new immunosuppressive regimen.
The procedure infuses donor islet cells into the liver via the portal vein, where they engraft and resume insulin production, while the experimental drug protocol aims to prevent immune rejection without the toxicity of standard transplant immunosuppression.
Researchers presented the early results as a potential functional cure, noting that every participant in the cohort has remained free of exogenous insulin since transplant.

The Trump administration is suspending Microsoft, Adobe, and several other technology companies from a program that helps skilled foreign workers obtain permanent residency in the United States, accusing the companies of fraud.
“Our message to Microsoft is: You’re a great American company, but you’ve got to hire great American workers,” — U.S. Vice President JD Vance said.
The other firms being suspended from the program include Capgemini, Cognizant, HCL, Infosys, Tata, and Wipro. Secretary of Labor Keith Sonderling said the government would not accept any new or pending permanent labor certification applications involving these companies.
Vance also said the administration would investigate nine universities, including Harvard, Yale, and Stanford, over allegations they’re abusing a program that allows international students to come to the U.S. and were using the program to undermine wages for American workers.

Anthropic published an updated usage policy on Thursday that prohibits sustained abusive or cruel behavior toward its Claude AI models, alongside new or clarified restrictions on election interference, weapons development, and surveillance.
The company said the prohibition targets only extreme scenarios in which users are repeatedly cruel to Claude for no apparent reason, and leaves room for ordinary expressions of frustration, critical feedback, dark creative writing, and testing or research activities.
The updated usage policy takes effect on November 12.

Ripple is expanding into the business of financing leveraged stock exchange-traded funds, putting the crypto company in a market long dominated by major banks and securities firms.
Ripple entered the business through its $1.25 billion acquisition of Hidden Road, a multi-asset prime brokerage firm, in October 2025. The deal gave Ripple an established operation that clears trades, finances investment positions and handles transactions across stocks, bonds, currencies and digital assets.

OpenAI revealed the results in a GitHub repository. Many of the results have already been verified in Lean, a programming language that validates a proof’s logic, and are therefore all but certain to be correct.
Among the results claimed are a solution to the four-dimensional Kakeya conjecture, improvements on some of the world’s most important computer algorithms and actual progress toward math’s scariest problem, the Riemann hypothesis.
A spokesperson for OpenAI said that the new model produced almost every one of the results in response to a single prompt handed to a single AI agent. If true, it would mean that unprecedented mathematical power could soon be accessible to anyone.

Chinese researchers have developed a “lifelike” shape-changing hydrogel they say could provide a platform for next-generation developments, such as flexible tissue engineering scaffolds, brain-computer interfaces and humanlike robots.
Inspired by living organisms,
the team created a light-triggered system called STERS, which uses liquid metal particles to generate slow, self-sustaining chemical reactions that allow a hydrogel to change its structure over time.Capable of growing and changing alongside living tissues, this adaptive system could inspire next-generation biomedical materials and devices. It could also have broad implications in fields such as regenerative medicine and soft robotics, according to the researchers.
