πŸ€‘ New tech to power bitcoin lending is set to debut with $500 million in commitments

Layer-1 blockchain Sui is set to launch Hashi, a new institutional network that allows holders to use Bitcoin as collateral for lending without moving it off the Bitcoin ledger. The mainnet is slated to roll out in phases later this month.

❗️To back the ecosystem, the initiative has already secured $500 million in capital commitments from a coalition of over 20 industry partners.

β€œHashi is launching with serious capital and a coalition of industry leaders because institutions want to put Bitcoin to work without giving up the protections they require,” β€” Adeniyi Abiodun, Co-Founder and Chief Product Officer of Mysten Labs, the original creator of Sui, said.

The primary target for this capital is a massive pool of dormant wealth. Sui estimates that roughly $1 trillion worth of Bitcoin is currently sitting idle. Until now, institutional and corporate balance-sheet holders have lacked a compliant, transparent ecosystem to safely deploy their native Bitcoin in DeFi.

This launch comes amid a broader shift in Bitcoin-backed finance, where borrowing is moving far beyond speculative crypto trading. Bitcoin holders now use bitcoin-collateralized loans to cover real-world expenses like university tuition, real estate acquisitions, and corporate working capital. πŸš€

πŸ§‘β€βš–οΈ Florida sues TP-Link for β€˜lying about the safety of its routers’

Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier just announced that the state is suing TP-Link, claiming that the company has been β€œlying about the safety of its routers and its ties to the CCP.”

β€œChinese state-sponsored hackers exploited TP-Link routers sitting in American living rooms. Many of those models cannot even update themselves automatically, and TP-Link has stopped supporting them,” β€” the Florida AG said on the social media platform.

β€œThey also told Floridians they have split from China and that they build U.S. products in Vietnam, but that is fiction. Research and manufacturing remain rooted in China, less than 1% of the parts in that Vietnam plant actually come from Vietnam.”

πŸ‡¨πŸ‡³ China Drafts Rules to Ban Hidden Car Handles, Virtual Controls

China proposed banning fully hidden car-door handles and requiring physical controls for certain safety-critical functions as regulators seek to strengthen oversight of vehicle design and product testing, according to draft rules issued for public comment by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and three other agencies.

The rules would also prohibit foldable and flexible display screens in vehicles and require additional safety assessments for a range of innovative designs. The proposal says some manufacturers have launched new products without sufficient testing, increasing vehicle safety and environmental risks.

πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡ΈπŸ‡·πŸ‡Ί Trump Says Putin to Supply US With Diesel Ahead of Midterms

President Donald Trump is working with Vladimir Putin to release Russian diesel supplies into global markets, a move that upends years of sanctions as the White House seeks ways to tame soaring fuel prices.

Trump announced a series of cargoes beginning this month totaling about 13.5 million barrels, initially. The Kremlin published a statement citing Putin who said Russia was ready β€œto supply oil and petroleum products to the US and global markets.” The US Treasury also issued a waiver for previously sanctioned Russian fuel.

πŸ€‘ Stellar Development Foundation joins the Blockchain Association's Vaults Workstream to engage the SEC on onchain vault regulatory questions

The Stellar Development Foundation has joined the Blockchain Association's Vaults Workstream to engage the SEC and industry peers on regulatory questions around onchain vault technologies.

The workstream, launched September 30, 2026, focuses specifically on how vault technologies function and operate onchain rather than the broader custody regulatory framework. The group convenes protocol developers, service providers and policy experts to align on technical standards and help inform SEC guidance as the regulator addresses digital asset storage mechanisms.

SDF joining a policy workstream focused on vault-specific technical questions rather than broad custody regulation narrows the group's initial scope.

If the SEC issues guidance tied to the workstream's recommendations, adoption would depend on whether those recommendations address the specific custody and control questions the agency has flagged in enforcement actions against centralized exchanges and custodians.

πŸ€‘ XRP Ledger patched decade-old bug that could create billions of dollars in XRP from nothing

A flaw in the XRP Ledger’s payment system could have let an attacker create large amounts of new XRP without paying for it, breaking the token’s fixed-supply rule, according to a security report.

The bug, believed to date to 2015, was found by researcher Cayden Liao and Veria AI and internally reported on Sept. 22. Engineers at RippleX, Ripple’s developer arm, reproduced the attack on a standalone server and confirmed the newly created XRP could be spent in a later transaction.

RippleX said it found no evidence the flaw was exploited on any public network.

πŸ‡¨πŸ‡³ China pushes to establish a "National Blockchain Network"

A document issued by the CPC Central Committee and the State Council on October 9, 2026, explicitly integrates blockchain into China’s strategy for developing β€œnew quality productive forces.”

Clause (ix) calls for the creation of a national integrated computing network and a national blockchain network. This is not just rhetoric β€” it is a concrete task outlined in the section on the deep integration of the real and digital economies.

The national blockchain network is mentioned alongside the β€œEastern Data, Western Computing” initiative, smart manufacturing, and the industrial internet β€” positioning it as part of China’s core infrastructure for data and computing.

The document also calls for the establishment of a unified national data market, requiring an open, shared, and secure nationwide marketplace for data. It separately highlights the need for convenient and secure mechanisms for cross-border data exchange.

πŸ§‘β€βš–οΈ Woman sues Flock, officer after cameras used in alleged mistaken theft charge

A Colorado woman has filed a federal lawsuit against an officer, Flock Safety and others after she was allegedly mistakenly hit with a criminal summons last year. In her lawsuit, Chrisanna Elser alleges that an officer used a Flock camera to track her and connect her to a $25 package theft from the porch of a home in Bow Mar.

Elser filed the lawsuit on Monday, accusing the defendants of negligence, invasion of privacy, unlawful search and other violations. The lawsuit concerns a criminal summons that was later voided after Elser presented evidence that she says proved she was not the suspect.

"The scariest part is what happened to me can happen to anyone," β€” Elser said.

πŸ€‘ DFNS now supports Circle’s Cross-Chain Transfer Protocol on Stellar

Institutions on DFNS can move native USDC between Stellar and any other CCTP-supported network, Ethereum, Solana, Base, Arbitrum, Avalanche, Polygon, Arc, and more, in one governed transaction, with the USDC that arrives being the same canonical, Circle-issued asset on both sides.

No wrapped variant, no third-party bridge, no custodian in the middle. πŸš€

πŸ‘‰ The flows that used to require two platforms now run in one. A payments company collects USDC on Ethereum or Base, moves it to Stellar through CCTP, and pays out through Stellar’s cash network, under a single policy and audit trail.

πŸ‘‰ A treasury holding USDC on Stellar deploys it on Solana or Ethereum when a counterparty or venue requires it, and brings it home for payouts.

πŸ‘‰ A fintech serving customers across corridors keeps one USDC balance sheet across chains, settling wherever the corridor is cheapest, without pre-positioning liquidity on every network it touches.

πŸ‡¦πŸ‡Ί Australia outlines plans to make AI companies prove their safety systems work

Australia would require AI companies to prove they are properly testing models and preventing harm under proposed new laws modelled on banking and aviation safety rules.

Assistant Minister for Science, Technology and the Digital Economy Andrew Charlton has signalled the government wants to make AI companies demonstrate their safety systems are effective, rather than dictate how they should manage every risk.

"AI needs regulating because its harms are severe, hard to undo, borne by people who never chose them and sometimes invisible until they arrive," β€” he said.

"The market will not fix this alone, because the incentives reward speed and capability, and even the people at the top of the industry cannot slow down by themselves."

πŸ’« NASA issues long-awaited call to industry for private space stations

NASA released a much-anticipated β€œrequest” to the US commercial space industry to develop private space stations that, as early as 2030, will succeed the International Space Station as a place for astronauts to live in low-Earth orbit.

πŸ“ In a cover letter accompanying the 360-page β€œrequest for proposals,” NASA stated its plan:

β€œThis will ensure NASA has a sustained human presence in LEO for crew members to perform science and exploration.”

Several private companies that have worked for years on designing and developing such stations have been keen to learn exactly what capabilities NASA is seeking. These new documents finally provide some answers.

πŸ‡¨πŸ‡³ China breakthrough projected to put sustainable aviation fuel gross profit margin past 50%

Chinese researchers have developed a catalyst that converts synthesis gas into sustainable jet fuel β€” an advance that could boost production, help meet net-zero carbon goals and yield a gross profit margin above 50%.

The team verified the efficacy of the chemical catalyst in a thousand-tonne pilot test and found that combining woody biomass-derived synthesis gas, or syngas, with the cobalt-manganese catalyst enabled the β€œhighly efficient synthesis of jet fuel”.

Based on a techno-economic analysis that modelled a planned 100,000-tonnes-per-year jet fuel plant, the researchers estimated they could achieve a gross profit margin of over 50%.

β€œThe excellent pilot test results and the positive techno-economic and life-cycle assessments underscore its strong potential for industrial deployment,” β€” the team said in a paper published in the peer-reviewed journal Nature Communications.

πŸ’Š Scientists created a tiny device that can control your nerves to treat chronic pain

A miniature medical device small enough to be delivered through a standard needle could change how doctors treat chronic pain and movement disorders. Developed by scientists at NYU Abu Dhabi in partnership with Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, the technology can regulate nerve activity without surgical implantation, batteries, or connecting wires.

Roughly the size of a small seed, the device is injected into the body and positioned close to a specific nerve. Once in place, it sends carefully controlled electrical signals that alter the nerve's activity. Power is supplied wirelessly from outside the body, allowing doctors or patients to adjust the stimulation in real time.

The findings, published in Science Advances, describe a potentially less invasive way to deliver precise nerve stimulation. Rather than replacing existing treatments, which can include medications and surgically implanted devices, the technology could provide another option tailored to individual medical needs.

"This work represents a shift in how we think about treating nerve-related conditions," β€” said Prof. Khalil Ramadi, Assistant Professor of Bioengineering at NYU Abu Dhabi and NYU Tandon.

"By creating a device that can be injected rather than surgically implanted, we are making these therapies simpler, safer, and more accessible, while still maintaining precise control over nerve activity."
