๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ณ China pushes to establish a "National Blockchain Network"

A document issued by the CPC Central Committee and the State Council on October 9, 2026, explicitly integrates blockchain into Chinaโ€™s strategy for developing โ€œnew quality productive forces.โ€

Clause (ix) calls for the creation of a national integrated computing network and a national blockchain network. This is not just rhetoric โ€” it is a concrete task outlined in the section on the deep integration of the real and digital economies.

The national blockchain network is mentioned alongside the โ€œEastern Data, Western Computingโ€ initiative, smart manufacturing, and the industrial internet โ€” positioning it as part of Chinaโ€™s core infrastructure for data and computing.

The document also calls for the establishment of a unified national data market, requiring an open, shared, and secure nationwide marketplace for data. It separately highlights the need for convenient and secure mechanisms for cross-border data exchange.

๐Ÿง‘โ€โš–๏ธ Woman sues Flock, officer after cameras used in alleged mistaken theft charge

A Colorado woman has filed a federal lawsuit against an officer, Flock Safety and others after she was allegedly mistakenly hit with a criminal summons last year. In her lawsuit, Chrisanna Elser alleges that an officer used a Flock camera to track her and connect her to a $25 package theft from the porch of a home in Bow Mar.

Elser filed the lawsuit on Monday, accusing the defendants of negligence, invasion of privacy, unlawful search and other violations. The lawsuit concerns a criminal summons that was later voided after Elser presented evidence that she says proved she was not the suspect.

"The scariest part is what happened to me can happen to anyone," โ€” Elser said.

๐Ÿค‘ DFNS now supports Circleโ€™s Cross-Chain Transfer Protocol on Stellar

Institutions on DFNS can move native USDC between Stellar and any other CCTP-supported network, Ethereum, Solana, Base, Arbitrum, Avalanche, Polygon, Arc, and more, in one governed transaction, with the USDC that arrives being the same canonical, Circle-issued asset on both sides.

No wrapped variant, no third-party bridge, no custodian in the middle. ๐Ÿš€

๐Ÿ‘‰ The flows that used to require two platforms now run in one. A payments company collects USDC on Ethereum or Base, moves it to Stellar through CCTP, and pays out through Stellarโ€™s cash network, under a single policy and audit trail.

๐Ÿ‘‰ A treasury holding USDC on Stellar deploys it on Solana or Ethereum when a counterparty or venue requires it, and brings it home for payouts.

๐Ÿ‘‰ A fintech serving customers across corridors keeps one USDC balance sheet across chains, settling wherever the corridor is cheapest, without pre-positioning liquidity on every network it touches.

๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐Ÿ‡บ Australia outlines plans to make AI companies prove their safety systems work

Australia would require AI companies to prove they are properly testing models and preventing harm under proposed new laws modelled on banking and aviation safety rules.

Assistant Minister for Science, Technology and the Digital Economy Andrew Charlton has signalled the government wants to make AI companies demonstrate their safety systems are effective, rather than dictate how they should manage every risk.

"AI needs regulating because its harms are severe, hard to undo, borne by people who never chose them and sometimes invisible until they arrive," โ€” he said.

"The market will not fix this alone, because the incentives reward speed and capability, and even the people at the top of the industry cannot slow down by themselves."

๐Ÿ’ซ NASA issues long-awaited call to industry for private space stations

NASA released a much-anticipated โ€œrequestโ€ to the US commercial space industry to develop private space stations that, as early as 2030, will succeed the International Space Station as a place for astronauts to live in low-Earth orbit.

๐Ÿ“ In a cover letter accompanying the 360-page โ€œrequest for proposals,โ€ NASA stated its plan:

โ€œThis will ensure NASA has a sustained human presence in LEO for crew members to perform science and exploration.โ€

Several private companies that have worked for years on designing and developing such stations have been keen to learn exactly what capabilities NASA is seeking. These new documents finally provide some answers.

๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ณ China breakthrough projected to put sustainable aviation fuel gross profit margin past 50%

Chinese researchers have developed a catalyst that converts synthesis gas into sustainable jet fuel โ€” an advance that could boost production, help meet net-zero carbon goals and yield a gross profit margin above 50%.

The team verified the efficacy of the chemical catalyst in a thousand-tonne pilot test and found that combining woody biomass-derived synthesis gas, or syngas, with the cobalt-manganese catalyst enabled the โ€œhighly efficient synthesis of jet fuelโ€.

Based on a techno-economic analysis that modelled a planned 100,000-tonnes-per-year jet fuel plant, the researchers estimated they could achieve a gross profit margin of over 50%.

โ€œThe excellent pilot test results and the positive techno-economic and life-cycle assessments underscore its strong potential for industrial deployment,โ€ โ€” the team said in a paper published in the peer-reviewed journal Nature Communications.

๐Ÿ’Š Scientists created a tiny device that can control your nerves to treat chronic pain

A miniature medical device small enough to be delivered through a standard needle could change how doctors treat chronic pain and movement disorders. Developed by scientists at NYU Abu Dhabi in partnership with Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, the technology can regulate nerve activity without surgical implantation, batteries, or connecting wires.

Roughly the size of a small seed, the device is injected into the body and positioned close to a specific nerve. Once in place, it sends carefully controlled electrical signals that alter the nerve's activity. Power is supplied wirelessly from outside the body, allowing doctors or patients to adjust the stimulation in real time.

The findings, published in Science Advances, describe a potentially less invasive way to deliver precise nerve stimulation. Rather than replacing existing treatments, which can include medications and surgically implanted devices, the technology could provide another option tailored to individual medical needs.

"This work represents a shift in how we think about treating nerve-related conditions," โ€” said Prof. Khalil Ramadi, Assistant Professor of Bioengineering at NYU Abu Dhabi and NYU Tandon.

"By creating a device that can be injected rather than surgically implanted, we are making these therapies simpler, safer, and more accessible, while still maintaining precise control over nerve activity."

โœˆ๏ธ US military-backed cargo pod promises 90-minute orbital delivery anywhere on Earth, 10-ton Ghost vehicle gets first real-world test

A U.S. military-backed company plans to deliver a payload to any point on Earth within 90 minutes by prepositioning assets in space and then calling down delivery vehicles as needed.

Sierra Space, a subsidiary of the Sierra Nevada Corporation, has successfully completed two test drops of its Ghost reentry vehicle while carrying a bottle of whiskey and a software-defined radio. The test was conducted using high-altitude balloons that dropped it from 35,000 feet and 68,500 feet.

While this test isnโ€™t as exciting as SpaceX rockets landing on a platform at sea, itโ€™s still an achievement for the team working on the project, as itโ€™s the first test of the vehicle in two years. This demonstration is part of the U.S. Space Commandโ€™s Apollo Nexus training exercise, which aims to demonstrate the needed synchronization of multiple units in complex operations.

๐Ÿค– Scientists move a step toward quantum computers that can correct their own mistakes

Researchers from Rutgers, IBM and collaborating institutions have shown that a quantum computer can check what is happening inside it and respond while it is running, repeatedly resetting parts of the system to bring chaotic behavior under control.

In a study published in Nature Physics, researchers showed that a quantum computer can repeatedly check and reset parts of itself while running. The experiment is among the largest demonstrations to date of real-time quantum feedback control, a capability considered essential for future quantum computers that will be fault tolerant.

The advance is a critical step toward building larger, more reliable quantum computers.

๐Ÿ“น Canadian YouTuber builds 'Flock-like' camera to exclusively track police vehicles, gets a visit from police

A YouTuber has received an unexpected visit from the police over an automatic license plate recognition (ALPR) camera he built to specifically track police cars, using the same technology law enforcement has infamously used to track ordinary citizens. In a video, Anthony Sistilli says two police officers showed up at his doorstep on September 20th to ask questions about the device, asking what his intentions were with the project.

Sistilli, a Canadian software engineer and YouTuber, pointed out the irony of the officers' concerns, explaining that they mirror the privacy concerns of ordinary citizens who are growing increasingly weary of the recent spike in blanket surveillance brought about by a mass installation of ALPR cameras.

๐Ÿงฌ Scientists accidentally discover a genetic code that breaks the rules of life

A routine experiment involving a microscopic organism from a freshwater pond led scientists to an extraordinary genetic discovery. The tiny creature was found to interpret DNA instructions in a way researchers had never documented before, challenging a long held assumption about how the genetic code works.

The surprise came when scientists examined a previously unknown protist called Oligohymenophorea sp. PL0344. Two genetic signals that ordinarily tell cells to stop making proteins had taken on completely different functions. Even more remarkably, the signals had been reassigned to two different amino acids, breaking a pattern scientists believed was closely linked by evolution.

The discovery, published in PLOS Genetics, revealed an unexpected level of flexibility in one of life's most fundamental biological systems. Subsequent research has uncovered additional genetic code variations in related microorganisms, suggesting that many more surprises could be waiting in the microscopic world.

๐Ÿค‘ Why a bug that could have threatened XRP's 100 billion supply cap stayed hidden for years

A bug that could have let an attacker print new XRP (XRP) out of nothing sat in the XRP Ledger for more than a decade without anyone noticing because normal user activity never came close to triggering it, according to XRP Ledger Foundation.

The 11-year-old bug mattered because it threatened the core rule XRP holders rely on: that the total supply can never exceed the 100 billion coins created at the blockchainโ€™s debut in 2012. It was uncovered Sept. 22 by researcher Cayden Liao and Veria AI and reported internally.

โ—๏ธNo damage was done, according to RippleX, which shipped the fix. No new XRP was created and about 99.986 billion XRP remain in circulation today, the foundation said.

The XRP Ledger (XRPL) is an open-source, decentralized layer-1 blockchain. Its native token, XRP, was built so that no new tokens can ever be minted. The coin is primarily used to pay transaction fees and bridge currency trades on the ledger's built-in decentralized exchange (DEX).

๐Ÿ‘‡HEREโ€™S HOW IT COULD HAVE WORKED

๐ŸŸฃThe bug stemmed from a vulnerability known as an โ€œinteger overflow,โ€ which, like an old arcade gameโ€™s score counter, resets to zero every time it hits its maximum.

๐ŸŸฃIn the XRP Ledger case, the flaw meant that once a transaction size exceeded the system's maximum allowed numerical limit, the value wrapped around to a very small number.

๐ŸŸฃThat bypassed standard fund checks, crediting sellers their full XRP amounts while charging buyers next to nothing, effectively minting the difference out of thin air and artificially inflating the total XRP supply.

๐ŸŸฃAn attacker could have set up dummy accounts to post fake token sales worth astronomical amounts of XRP. Then, acting as the buyer, the attacker could have paid in XRP, buying all tokens at once.

๐ŸŸฃThe ledger would credit the seller accounts with billions of valid XRP and, overwhelmed by the sheer amount of XRP, would have registered a total cost of only a fraction of a cent for the buyer.

๐ŸŸฃBy bypassing standard fund checks, the system would effectively mint the difference out of thin air, allowing the attacker to walk away with billions of new XRP to liquidate on external exchanges.

WHY IT WENT UNNOTICED? ๐Ÿ‘€

โ—๏ธThe bug went unnoticed mainly because it required a massive scale of action to trigger, the XRP Foundation said. The ledgerโ€™s own safeguards missed it too.

โ€œNo normal payment comes anywhere near triggering it. It took hundreds of deliberately constructed operations,โ€ โ€” it said.

โšก๏ธThe foundation noted that AI is making it faster to find such flaws for both "the bad guys and the good guys." To ensure safety going forward, the foundation plans to aggressively apply AI adversarial testing, implement formal verification and strengthen its bug bounty program.

โ€œYouโ€™ll hear a lot more about this as we progress,โ€ โ€” it said.
