🤖 These Mini Power Plants Aim to Make Green Fuel, Using the Air Around Them

On a quiet industrial estate, engineers at British startup Rivan Industries are working to perfect a system to produce synthetic natural gas from water, sunlight and air.

Their work involves splitting hydrogen from water and capturing carbon-dioxide directly from the air, then combining the two gases to make green methane, a cleaner substitute for natural gas, the source of energy for around a quarter of European households. The entire process takes place in a modular unit, a sort of self-contained mini-power plant, powered by solar energy and that Rivan plans to mass produce.

🤖 Scientists Just Cracked a Quantum Mystery That's Puzzled Physicists For Decades

The Kondo effect is one of the most important in quantum physics, describing the strange interference that magnetic atoms can have in metals.

Usually, as metals cool, they become better at conducting electricity, because the reduction in energy means electrons can flow more smoothly. Add in a magnetic atom or two, though, and below a certain temperature (the Kondo temperature), electrical resistance starts to rise again.

But in a physics first, researchers from the California Institute of Technology (Caltech) and Yale University in the US have managed to precisely quantify the effect in a real material via fundamental physics calculations.

📄 The work, published in Science, represents a significant step forward. Previously, scientists had to use real-world experiments and simplified models to pin down the Kondo effect, without getting predictions as precise as the new method.

"We are in an exciting era in which faithful predictive quantum descriptions of the full chemical complexity of real materials are coming within reach," — says chemist Linqing Peng, from Caltech.

💊 California startup says it has injected AI-designed virus into humans

An AI research lab Radical Numerics in California has administered a custom AI-designed virus into a human patient for the first time as a potential scalable solution to counter antibiotic-resistant superbugs.

If verified, the treatment, named Omnii-1, could mark the first time AI-designed bacteriophages have been administered to a human patient. These phages are viruses that specifically infect bacteria. Antibiotic-resistant superbugs are projected to cause nearly 40 million deaths by 2050.

Radical Numerics claims that their AI-driven approach can lead to rapid, on-demand generation of phages that meet patient requirements, accelerating the timeline for treatment.

“This milestone marks an early step toward translating AI-guided genome design into personalised therapies,” — Radical Numerics said.

🗺 Proton hosts map of 300,000 Flock devices amid legal threats

Proton, the Swiss company behind Proton Mail and Proton VPN, is hosting a public map showing more than 300,000 Flock surveillance devices across the United States. The map draws on an inventory obtained by cybersecurity researcher Joshua Michael from Flock’s own systems. According to Proton, it includes more than 170,000 cameras and over 130,000 other devices.

Proton is offering another way to inspect Flock Safety’s footprint, whose automated license plate readers are used by police and private customers. The systems record passing vehicles regardless of whether their drivers are suspected of an offense, creating searchable records of plates, locations, and timestamps. Vehicle characteristics can also help identify cars without a readable plate.

🤑🤑 Stellar and Ripple Are Sitting Right In Front of Hong Kong’s Tokenization Wave

Sunny Cheung, Executive Director at Shanghai Commercial Bank, outlined the institution’s priorities in a video, emphasizing its commitment to “cross-border connectivity, enable programmable finance and unlock new tokenized investment opportunities.”

He also stressed the importance of turning innovation into practical results, stating that “innovation is not a slogan, it’s execution.”

➡️ Hong Kong’s banking industry has a 2030 roadmap built around international connectivity, digital assets, and modern financial infrastructure.

➡️ The Hong Kong Monetary Authority has more than 40 Fintech 2030 initiatives covering programmable money, tokenized assets, payments, and settlement.

➡️ Hong Kong already issued HK$20B in digital green bonds, using tokenized deposits for settlement.

➡️ The HKMA plans to test tokenizing a market with more than HK$1.3T in Exchange Fund Bills.

❗️X Finance Bull highlighted the connections between Stellar, Ripple and Hong Kong’s financial ecosystem.

Ripple worked with Fubon Bank under the HKMA on tokenized real estate, programmable lending, and digital money. Shanghai Commercial Bank works with HashKey, and HashKey’s institutional marketplace supports XRP and RLUSD.

✅ XRP can serve as bridge liquidity, trading inventory, collateral, and settlement infrastructure as Hong Kong’s tokenized finance system develops.

Nium connects Stellar to international payouts across 190 countries. TopNod integrated Stellar for stablecoins and tokenized RWAs. Marketnode, backed by SGX and Temasek, is working with Stellar around institutional settlement. DTCC plans to connect tokenized securities to Stellar in H1 2027.

In Q2 2026, Stellar recorded approximately $4B in tokenized RWAs, 67 investment products, 10 regulated issuers, and $11.4B in stablecoin transfer volume. Hong Kong’s first regulated stablecoin licences, issued through HSBC and Anchorpoint and involving Standard Chartered, HKT, and Animoca Brands, add further weight to the picture. 👀

🇭🇰 Hong Kong is building infrastructure for tokenized money, tokenized bonds, 24/7 settlement, cross-border payments, and programmable finance. All of that requires liquidity, currency conversion, settlement, and financial infrastructure.

XRP Ledger and Stellar already provide those functions. The analyst believes the real opportunity arrives when banks stop issuing tokenized assets and start moving, financing, exchanging, and settling them daily. 🚀

“They are building the financial system that XRP Ledger and Stellar are already prepared to serve,” — X Finance Bull wrote. “That is the connection I’m watching.”

⚡️🇺🇸OCC calls on community banks to enter the stablecoin payments market

The U.S. Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) on Monday called on community banks to enter the stablecoin market, including by applying for permission to issue their own dollar-pegged tokens.

The regulator said it wants community banks to help shape the future of payments and encouraged them to apply directly or through subsidiaries to become permitted stablecoin issuers under the GENIUS Act.

“These opportunities complement the OCC’s Community Bank Comeback initiatives to right-size regulation and tailor supervision so community banks can grow, compete, and continue serving their communities,” — said the OCC.

🧑‍⚖️ As AI layoff fears mount, lawmakers weigh a bigger safety net for workers

Sen. Ron Wyden, a Democrat from Oregon, joined the push to protect workers with "The Stability and Opportunity for Workers Act," a bill that would expand unemployment benefits during "high unemployment periods."

The bill would extend unemployment benefits for 52 weeks if the unemployment rate reaches 8.5%, double the current standard of up to 26 weeks. The bill would also assist workers displaced by AI disruption by providing them with education and retraining for higher-paying jobs.

🤑 Aviva Investors expands its tokenised offering with the launch of a Sterling Liquidity Fund tokenised share class

Aviva Investors, the global asset management business of Aviva plc, and Ripple have today announced the launch of a new tokenised share class of the Aviva Investors Sterling (GBP) Liquidity Fund – the firm’s largest fund with approximately £22 billion in assets under management. 🎉

❗️This marks an expansion of Aviva Investors’ tokenised fund offering, following the launch of a tokenised share class for the firm’s USD Liquidity Fund earlier this year.

🇪🇺 This launch means that Aviva Investors is now one of the largest asset management providers of tokenised MMFs in Europe, with over £86m ($116m) invested across its two tokenised share class offerings. Aviva has invested in the new tokenised share class of the Sterling Liquidity Fund, with an investment of £50m ($66m).

The Fund is an Ireland-domiciled UCITS Money Markets Fund. The Fund uses the “digital twin” model, an approach that allows us to introduce a digital access layer, where holdings can be represented on-chain while maintaining the integrity of the existing off-chain fund structure.

The XRPL will enable Aviva Investors to reliably issue and manage the tokenised share class of the GBP Liquidity Fund using fast, secure, low-cost blockchain transactions, in an energy efficient format. Since 2012, the network has processed more than 4 billion transactions, supports nearly 8 million active wallets, and is maintained by 130+ independent validators. 🚀

🤑 Ripple Treasury Introduces Always-On Corporate Treasury Platform to Modernize Corporate Cash Management

Ripple
announced new capabilities for Ripple Treasury designed to enable global businesses, including American Airlines, Trax, Christian Louboutin, Subway, Adecco and Kingfisher, to manage cash, liquidity, and payments around the clock.

Unveiled at Swell 2026, the announcement marks a significant step toward always-on corporate treasury, bringing together established treasury management functionality, AI-powered orchestration and digital rail infrastructure.

❗️At the center of the new Ripple Treasury experience is an orchestration layer that works with GSmart, Ripple Treasury's treasury-native AI capabilities, to coordinate and automate workflows across cash positioning, forecasting, reconciliation, liquidity management, and payments.

By connecting decisions with execution, Ripple Treasury helps finance teams reduce manual processes, respond faster to changing financial needs, and move toward truly always-on treasury operations. 🚀

“Treasury is moving from visibility to action, and the emerging challenge is orchestration: connecting trusted data, intelligence and the ability to move money so that better decisions turn into timely execution,” — says Kevin Permenter, Research Director of IDC.

“Platforms that bring those layers together, rather than assembling them across providers, are addressing the constraint that matters most.” 🤝

🇭🇰 In a global first, Hong Kong opens secondary trading for tokenised public funds

The Hong Kong Securities and Futures Commission (SFC) on Monday approved the world’s first-ever secondary trading of tokenised public funds, reinforcing the city’s push to build the region’s leading ecosystem for tokenised finance.

❗️Investors can now trade two tokenised money market funds – the Hong Kong dollar and US dollar versions of the ChinaAMC Digital Money Market Fund – on an SFC-licensed virtual asset trading platform (VATP).

“For retail investors, this marks a vital upgrade in time sovereignty over fund management,” — said Katie He, head of strategic business at China Asset Management (Hong Kong), noting that trading was now available around the clock, including weekends and public holidays.

“Together, we have proven that liquidity can be unlocked without altering the legal structure of public mutual funds or lowering investor protection standards,” — He said.

The move comes as Hong Kong authorities and financial institutions step up efforts to expand the use of tokenisation, hoping to cement the city’s position as a fintech leader.

🇨🇦 Canada opens consultation on draft stablecoin rules, maintains ban on yields

The Canadian government started a 60-day public consultation on draft stablecoin regulations, which maintain a ban on yield payments and require non-bank issuers to deposit their reserves with Canadian financial institutions.

🗓 The consultation, which ends Dec. 23, comes as the country's banking industry presses for a ban on yield payouts, echoing concerns voiced in the U.S. that customers could move their money out of bank accounts, leaving traditional financial institutions with less to lend.

❗️The government passed the Stablecoin Act earlier this year.

The draft regulations are “required to bring the SCA into force and would prescribe the elements needed for issuers to register with the Bank of Canada,” the government said.

Some crypto exchanges in Canada, however, are already paying rewards to stablecoin holders. ➡️Coinbase Canada received permission from the Ontario Securities Commission (OSC) this year to offer yields on eligible tokens, provided it warned customers about the risks and made clear the funds are not covered by deposit insurance.

➡️ The federal fiat-pegged rule proposals would prohibit stablecoin issuers from paying interest, including through third parties, to encourage customers to hold their tokens. It would still allow rewards linked to transactions.

➡️ Under the draft rules, non-bank stablecoin issuers would have to hold reserves equal to the value of their circulating fiat-pegged tokens. They would have to place those reserves with qualified Canadian financial institutions, including banks, credit unions and trust companies.

➡️ Customers would have to be able to exchange their stablecoins for regular currency within three business days, with redemption fees capped at 1%.

The stablecoin framework is expected to come into effect toward the end of 2027.

🍎 Apple responds to user reports of broken iPhone Duo screens on new foldable phone

Apple’s first foldable phone, the iPhone Duo, hit store shelves on Friday. But some customers who were lucky enough to get the $1,999-and-up phone on its first weekend have been reporting a pretty big problem: the inner screen of the phone can break, showing horizontal bright lines emanating from the phone’s hinge.

Apple on Monday said it was aware of the issue, which it said affected a “small number” of phones, and that it would replace the devices under its AppleCare warranty.

“We are aware of an issue impacting the inner display on a small number of iPhone Duo units,” — an Apple representative said.

“If users experience issues with their iPhone Duo display, they should contact AppleCare for a replacement.”
