Rahyafte (The Guided Ones)
Narrative of Embracing Islam by Lady Kosar (Silvia) Reported by Rahyafte (Comprehensive Base of Missionaries and New Muslims), the implementation of Haniyeh Zamamdar, the leader of the research group (Martyr Edoardo Agnelli Association), recounts the storyβ¦
I struggled with the constant question of whether my choice would be accepted by those around me. The emotional toll was immense, and I constantly felt sorry for disappointing them until my father told me: "Silvia! This pain and suffering are part of the path you have chosen, so you must accept and embrace it, despite our opposition." I appreciate my father more for this statement, as it allowed me to endure the hardship with peace of mind and see all reactions as natural.
Loneliness is the last barrier to overcome, but it is not a significant one. Even if you have many friends but share no common ground with them, the friendship is not genuine, and it feels like a form of loneliness. Even with numerous friends, if there is no shared belief, one feels lonely. Therefore, it is better to engage in activities aligned with our beliefs, even if they are small, to avoid feeling lonely and to be able to move against societal norms.
In the Quran, it is mentioned that people are drawn towards the Prophet due to the sweetness and charm granted to him by God. This innate quality in all humans accepts and embraces good and better things. One of the challenges in my life is being a part of this modern society. A complex society where, for a woman, it is challenging to attain and maintain all aspects of human life, especially in Italy. Here, a woman must work, and it has become difficult for her to be just a wife or a mother. No! In this era, a woman must work, not by choice but out of necessity. The natural rhythm of being human has been disrupted here.
The best Shia Muslims I have seen, from my perspective, are those who willingly endure hardships, such as traveling for pilgrimage or performing religious duties. I have also seen Shia Muslims who are less appealing to me as they have become accustomed to an easy and carefree life, similar to people in my country who have embraced comfort.
My biggest wish is to become a complete human being. I used to think that when a person is born, they are complete, but now I understand that it is just the beginning of the journey towards becoming a complete human. I learned about Islam through my husband. Sometimes it may be perceived that the value of someone who discovers Islam through their spouse is less, but I don't think so. In fact, this recognition is valid because many of us come to know truths and new things through others.
The number of Shia Muslims in Italy is very low, and I feel very lonely here. It's as if I am living in a bubble of life. Nevertheless, with the help of God and my husband, we have established and manage a small business (an ice cream shop). Due to my hijab, I am restricted, and I cannot work elsewhere. If it weren't for this business, life would be unbearable for me.
