🔹 Verse 50 – Surah Al-Ma’idah | Divine Judgment vs. the Judgment of Ignorance

🌙 The Noble Verse

"Do they seek the judgment of ignorance? Yet who is better than Allah in judgment for a people who have certainty?"
(Al-Ma’idah, 5:50)

✍️ Wilāyah-based Explanation

1. Imam al-Bāqir (peace be upon him) said:
💬 "There are only two types of judgment: the judgment of Allah and the judgment of Jāhiliyyah (ignorance). And Allah, the Exalted, has said: ‘And who is better than Allah in judgment for a people who have certainty?’ Bear witness that Zayd ibn Thābit judged in matters of inheritance by the law of Jāhiliyyah.”
📚 Tafsīr Ahl al-Bayt, vol. 4, p. 86 | Al-Kāfī, vol. 7, p. 407 | Tahdhīb al-Aḥkām, vol. 6, p. 217 | Al-Burhān, vol. 1, p. 525
✅ Message: Any deviation from divine judgment—even in the name of jurisprudence—is a return to the rule of ignorance.

2. Imam al-Ṣādiq (peace be upon him) said:
💬 "Judges are of four types: three are in the Fire and one is in Paradise. One who judges unjustly while knowing it—he is in Hell. One who judges unjustly unknowingly—he is also in Hell. One who judges rightly without knowledge—he too is in Hell. But one who judges rightly with knowledge—he is in Paradise."
And he added:
"There are only two types of judgment: Allah’s judgment and the judgment of ignorance. Whoever fails to judge by Allah’s law is judging by Jāhiliyyah."
📚 Tafsīr Ahl al-Bayt, vol. 4, p. 86 | Al-Kāfī, vol. 7, p. 407 | Al-Burhān
✅ Message: Righteous judgment requires both truth and knowledge. Any judgment outside divine guidance is branded as Jāhiliyyah, no matter how subtle.

3. Lady Fāṭimah al-Zahrā (peace be upon her) in her historical sermon regarding Fadak:
💬 When Abū Bakr denied her the inheritance of Fadak, she veiled herself, dressed modestly, and, accompanied by her female relatives, entered the mosque with dignity and reverence, her gait resembling that of the Prophet (PBUH). She sat behind a curtain before the gathering of Muhājirīn and Anṣār, and after a heart-wrenching sigh that moved the assembly to tears, she began her speech with praise of Allah and salutations upon the Prophet. Then she declared:
"You claim that we do not inherit from the Prophet?! Do you seek the judgment of Jāhiliyyah? But who is better than Allah in judgment for those who have certainty?! Do you not know?! Indeed, the truth is as radiant as the midday sun that I am his daughter. O Muslims! Should I be denied my rightful inheritance?"

✅ Message: Lady Fāṭimah (sa) directly invoked this verse to reject the unjust judgment that deprived her of her rights, unveiling the clear contradiction between divine law and the caliphal verdict—labeling it as ḥukm al-jāhiliyyah.

🌟 Insight from Wilāyah and Mahdism

🔹 This verse offers a sharp criterion: every judgment system must be assessed by whether it aligns with divine authority.
🔹 The ḥukm al-jāhiliyyah refers not only to pre-Islamic customs, but to any governance or judgment that bypasses Allah’s appointed guardianship.
🔹 Historically, rejection of divinely appointed leaders—like Imam Ali (as) or Lady Fatimah’s (sa) rights—falls under this condemnation.
🔹 In the age of occultation, ignoring the authority and cause of Imam al-Mahdi (aj) in favor of secular or self-made systems is a modern echo of ḥukm al-jāhiliyyah.

✅ Takeaway

✔️ There are only two judgments: Allah’s or that of ignorance.
✔️ Every claim to justice must be evaluated by its alignment with divinely sanctioned truth.
✔️ Standing with Wilāyah and divine judgment is not merely a historical stance — it’s a timeless necessity.
