🔸 Was It the People’s Fault—or the Fault of Pharaoh’s Government? 🔸

🔹 Ayatollah Haeri Shirazi 🔹

Consider this verse:

فَاسْتَخَفَّ قَوْمَهُ فَأَطَاعُوهُ إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا قَوْمًا فَاسِقِينَ
“So Pharaoh made his people submissive, and they obeyed him. Indeed, they were a rebellious people.”

— Qur’an 43:54

Pharaoh belittled and humiliated his own people, and as a result, they obeyed him and submitted to him. Indeed, Pharaoh’s people were a rebellious and disobedient people.

What is remarkable is that God directs the blame and the sharp edge of criticism toward those who obeyed and followed, rather than toward Pharaoh himself.

God could have said: “Pharaoh was rebellious, tyrannical, or power-hungry.” But instead, He says:

“Indeed, they were a rebellious people.”

🔹 The roots of obedience to a tyrant are thus traced to the lack of commitment among the people who follow and submit to him.

This is an important point: when it comes to the fate of regimes and governments, the people are presented as the fundamental factor—not the rulers.

The message is that a corrupt ruler rises to power because of corruption within the people, rather than the people becoming corrupt merely because a tyrant has gained power.

In other words:

It was the people themselves who were corrupt and disobedient, and that was what enabled someone like Pharaoh to rise to power.

🔸 This is a precise and thought-provoking analysis. The foundation is not placed in the leader; the foundation is placed in the people.

And the defining quality attributed to the people is not that they are intelligent, clever, or perceptive. Rather, it is their relationship with trust, commitment, loyalty, and keeping their promises.

If a society consists of people who do not honor their commitments, who are not faithful to their word, and who do not stand by what they profess, then such a society creates the conditions for tyrannical and unjust individuals to rise to power.

🔻 Therefore, if you want a nation to reform itself, or if you want those in power to be removed, the first thing you must do is strengthen the roots of commitment and responsible character among the people.

For opposite fāsiq—the one who abandons moral commitment—stand the committed, faithful, and trustworthy person.

✨ If a society is to change, its people must first be cultivated in commitment, loyalty, and trustworthiness.

🔸 The Feeling of Being in the Majority 🔸

🔹 Ayatollah Haeri Shirazi 🔹

▫️ The fragrance of being present in the mosque, and the fragrance of being among believers, is no less than the fragrance of a perfume market—if not even more beautiful.

▫️ For this reason, I advise fathers and mothers: your children may not want to come willingly the first or second time because they are playful and full of energy. But try to bring them to the mosque with affection and gentleness.

When my father wanted to take me with him to the mosque, I would also fool around and resist. He would bring us along with kindness and affection. We were just like these mischievous children.

▫️ When these children grow up, they may become even better than us.

Bring your children to the mosque so that ideological groups do not take them away from you. Bring them so that they can become spiritually equipped and strengthened.

If you do not bring them, and someone else takes them in another direction, and eventually their path leads somewhere dangerous, you will suffer deeply.

▫️ Madam! Bring your daughter with you, so that others do not lead her toward abandoning proper hijab.

Bring her so that she can see this vast sea of women wearing chadors and observing hijab, and realize that she is part of the majority.

When she goes out into the streets to shop, she should not feel like a minority.

✨ كَلَّا ۖ إِنَّ مَعِيَ رَبِّي سَيَهْدِينِ

“No! Indeed, my Lord is with me; He will guide me.”

📖 Qur’an | Surah Ash-Shu‘ara, 26:62

🕊️ These are the words of Prophet Moses (Musa) عليه السلام, when the Children of Israel stood before the sea, with Pharaoh and his army closing in behind them.

When there seemed to be no way forward, Moses had certainty:

🤍 My Lord is with me.
✨ He will guide me.
