🔹 Verse 157 – Surah An-Nisa | Wilayat and Mahdavi Interpretation
🌙 The Noble Verse
“And [for] their saying, ‘Indeed, we have killed the Messiah, Jesus, the son of Mary, the messenger of Allah.’ And they did not kill him, nor did they crucify him; but [another] was made to resemble him to them. And indeed, those who differ over it are in doubt about it. They have no knowledge of it except the following of assumption. And they did not kill him, for certain.”
(An-Nisa 4:157)
✍️ Wilayat and Mahdavi Narrations
✅ Imam Ja'far al-Sadiq (peace be upon him) said: God enacted three things concerning the prophets which will also apply to our Qa’im (may Allah hasten his reappearance):
His birth will be like the birth of Musa (Moses, peace be upon him)
His occultation will be like the occultation of ‘Isa (Jesus, peace be upon him)
His long life will be like that of Nuh (Noah, peace be upon him) and then like the prolonged life of Khidr (peace be upon him).
He explained that the occultation of Imam Mahdi (may Allah hasten his reappearance) is like the occultation of ‘Isa (Jesus), during which people deny him—some say he has not been born, others say he is dead, and still others have different opinions.
📚 (Tafsir Ahl al-Bayt, vol. 3, p. 504 / Bihar al-Anwar vol. 51, p. 219)
✅ Imam Muhammad al-Baqir (peace be upon him) also said: The Qa’im resembles five of the prophets, including ‘Isa (Jesus) in that people dispute his existence; some say he was never born, others say he died, some say he was killed, and some say he was crucified. The Imam also said that the Imam apparently died, but in reality did not pass away.
📚 (Tafsir Ahl al-Bayt, vol. 3, p. 504 / Bihar al-Anwar vol. 14, p. 339)
✅ Imam al-Baqir (peace be upon him) further stated: A time will come when people will no longer recognize God and monotheism until the emergence of the Dajjal and the descent of ‘Isa (peace be upon him) from the heavens. ‘Isa will kill the Dajjal and one of the Ahl al-Bayt will lead the prayer, while ‘Isa, despite being a prophet, will pray behind him.
📚 (Tafsir Ahl al-Bayt, vol. 3, p. 508)
✅ The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him and his family) said: ‘Isa (Jesus, peace be upon him) has not died and will return before the Resurrection.
📚 (Tafsir Ahl al-Bayt, vol. 3, p. 508 / Bihar al-Anwar vol. 14, p. 344)
🌟 Wilayat Perspective
🔹 Denying the killing of ‘Isa (peace be upon him) and creating confusion about him is similar to the denial and doubt historically cast on the Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them), especially Imam Mahdi (may Allah hasten his reappearance).
🔹 Just as people superficially accepted the occultation of ‘Isa but inwardly doubted, today many deny or distort the existence of the Imam of the Age.
🔹 Wilayat and Imamate are the continuation of Prophethood, and denying them is denying divine truth that tested the prophets.
✨ Mahdavi Perspective
🔸 The occultation of Imam Mahdi (may Allah hasten his reappearance) like the occultation of ‘Isa (peace be upon him) is a divine miracle that tests the world and reveals the realities of Wilayat.
🔸 Disputes and doubts about the Imam of the Age, and various ambiguities about his existence, are the “doubt and assumption” mentioned in the verse, indicative of misleading attacks.
🔸 The appearance of Imam Mahdi (may Allah hasten his reappearance) will end doubts and suspicions and begin a global justice where ‘Isa (peace be upon him) will play a key role alongside him.
✅ Wilayat and Mahdavi Conclusion
✔️ The existence of Imam Mahdi (may Allah hasten his reappearance) is an undeniable divine truth that, through occultation and prolonged life, passes divine tests.
✔️ Disputes and doubts regarding his existence arise from ignorance and misunderstanding, not from knowledge and certainty.
✔️ True expectation means unconditional belief in the Imam and readiness for his reappearance.

✨ Wilayat Reflections
🔹 The ascension of Jesus (peace be upon him) reflects the divine elevation of God's chosen servants, beyond material limits—just as the Wilayah of the Imams transcends natural norms.
🔹 The connection between the ascension of Jesus and the martyrdom of Imam Ali (peace be upon him) reveals a profound spiritual kinship between Prophets and the Ahl al-Bayt.
✨ Mahdavi Reflections
🔸 Just as Jesus (peace be upon him) was hidden from public sight, the Qa’im from the Family of Muhammad (may Allah hasten his reappearance) is in occultation—both will return in the end-times to establish global justice.
🔸 In the End Times, Jesus (peace be upon him) will join the mission of Imam Mahdi (peace be upon him) and pray behind him. This indicates the superiority of Imamate over previous legislative prophethood.
✅ Wilayat & Mahdavi Conclusion
✔️ The ascension of Jesus (peace be upon him) is a Qur’anic truth, supported by the narrations of the Ahl al-Bayt, and forms part of our eschatological beliefs.
✔️ His future return will complement the mission of Imam Mahdi, yet the leadership of this final divine movement belongs exclusively to the Imam of the Age.
✔️ This verse lays the Qur’anic foundation for belief in occultation, return (rajʿa), and global reappearance.
