On the day of Martyr Rajaei’s martyrdom — just a few hours before his death — we had our weekly [ethics] class together. I told him: “Passing through each stage is like childbirth.” In Shiraz, when people witness the pain of labor, they say: “May God bring something even more meaningful next.”
May God have mercy on him — he was taken aback by my words, but quickly composed himself. I don’t know what memory it stirred within him.
Iron, when forged into a sword, loses some of its material under the constant strikes of the hammer. But with each blow, it draws nearer to its true purpose and final form. With every loss, its sharpness increases; with every strike, its strength is renewed. And through every journey between water and fire, it becomes more tempered and resilient.
