🇵🇸 Inside the Captivity: Contrasting Realities Between Gaza and Israeli Prisons

A recently released Israeli soldier, freed in the latest prisoner exchange, revealed surprising details about his son’s time in Hamas captivity. Speaking to the Israeli Broadcasting Authority, the soldier’s father said his son was allowed to pray three times a day and was even provided with a Jewish prayer book (Siddur) by a senior Hamas official.

“He prayed every day using the Siddur,” the father said. “When he was released, he couldn’t believe he could drink clean water or choose from different dishes — in Gaza, they have nothing. What my son lived through was hell because of war and starvation, but he’s alive… and recovering.”

The testimony echoes Hamas’s earlier statements that it makes efforts to preserve the lives of Israeli captives, warning that Israel’s own bombings pose the greatest threat to them. Reports suggest that some Israeli captives were shielded by Palestinian fighters’ own bodies during airstrikes.

In stark contrast, freed Palestinian prisoners have shared harrowing accounts of their time in Israeli jails — describing years of physical and psychological torture, deprivation of food, water, and sleep, and the spread of disease due to inhumane conditions.

According to the Palestinian Prisoners’ Club, the number of Palestinian detainees who have died in Israeli prisons has now reached 78 martyrs since October 7, 2023.
