♨️ Do All Jews Receive Divine Forgiveness? ♨️
(Insights from Tafsir al-Mizan, Part 6)

📖 Quranic Reflection:
"Then came after them a generation who inherited the Book. They take the fleeting gains of this lowly world and say, 'We will surely be forgiven.' And if a similar gain comes to them, they take it. Was not a covenant taken from them in the Book that they should not speak against Allah except the truth? Yet they studied what was in it, while the Hereafter is better for those who fear Him. Will you not then reason?"
(Surah Al-A’raf, 169)
🔹 Explanation:
1️⃣ Chasing worldly gains:
The verse criticizes successors of the earlier Israelites who inherited the Torah yet focused only on transient worldly pleasures ("this lowly world") while claiming unfounded forgiveness. They repeatedly seize material gain without regard for moral or divine limits.
2️⃣ False hope vs. true repentance:
Their claim, “We will surely be forgiven,” is baseless. True hope in divine mercy is always coupled with fear of wrongdoing and leads to righteous action. In contrast, these people immerse themselves in desires, ignoring consequences, and falsely assume God’s forgiveness without repentance.
3️⃣ Study without action:
Although they studied the Book and understood its covenant to speak only the truth and avoid sin, they still acted wrongly. This shows that mere knowledge without fear, humility, and ethical practice leads to self-deception and moral corruption.
4️⃣ The right path:
The verse reminds that the Hereafter is far better for those who are God-conscious and act with piety. Ignoring this truth in favor of worldly pleasures only leads to ruin.
💡 Key Insight:
Knowledge without obedience, hope without action, and indulgence without accountability are dangerous. Divine forgiveness is not automatic—it requires sincere repentance and righteous deeds.
