📌 In the Attire of a Guardian...
Grand Ayatollah #Tabatabai narrated an incident about one of his students as follows:
Upon my return from Najaf, I was residing in Tabriz. One day, a messenger from the late Zanozi came and summoned me. When I arrived at his service, he said, "A certain incident has occurred that has left me bewildered."
For several days, we were involved in construction work at his residence. The builder and his apprentices were diligently engaged in their tasks. The precision and attention to detail by one particular apprentice caught my eye. He performed his duties meticulously, wasting no time.
During lunchtime, when his master went home for lunch, the apprentice stayed behind. He first renewed his ablution, prayed promptly, opened his small handkerchief, ate the simple food he had brought with him, then stood up and prepared the groundwork for the master's return. When the master came back, he resumed the work with great effort and enthusiasm.
One day, the builder told him, "Go and fetch a ladder from the neighbor." The young man went but, contrary to expectations, returned late. Therefore, in the evening, when the master went home, I went to him and, while inquiring about his well-being, asked him why he had delayed in bringing the ladder.
The young worker smiled and replied, "The reason for my delay was the narrowness of the alley. If I hadn't been careful, the ladder could have scratched against people's walls!"
Mr. Zanozi continued: I was more amazed by this worker's satisfactory answer than anything else. I asked him, "Can Imam Mahdi, may Allah hasten his noble reappearance, be seen?" Immediately and with complete normalcy, he said, "Yes, they actually visited Tabriz this week."
I inquired about the attire of Imam. He replied, "He was wearing the attire of a guardian!"
The issue that had puzzled Mr. Zanozi was this very point. That's why he requested Ayatollah Tabatabai to ask about how Imam Mahdi could be in the attire of a guardian. Ayatollah responded, "All scholars agree that he (Imam Mahdi) is present. Therefore, matters such as place, attire, and similar issues do not pose a problem for him."
Mohammad Hadi Faghihi, who heard this story from Ayatollah Tabatabai, states: "I asked His Eminence about the authenticity of this story, and he said, 'The evidence suggests that the story is true, and that young man was one of those who saw Imam Mahdi.' However, despite having his address, I could not find him."
