๐บImpact of the Call to Prayer on the Conversion of a Christian Woman
๐ Leslie Carter, an Irish Muslim working at the Islamic Cultural Center for Women, shares her journey: "I was a Christian, but three years ago, I converted to Islam. Since my youth, I had questions about Christian beliefs, especially the ritual of confession. I found it uneasy to confess my sins openly to a priest, and I believed I should confess to God alone and seek forgiveness from Him.
I am Irish, but my faith is Islam. The Islamic Center in Ireland is supported by Dubai and is the largest Islamic center in Europe. My husband was a Muslim, and while I attended church, he went to the mosque. Over time, I studied women's rights in Islam and the character of Prophet Jesus (peace be upon him) in Islam, leading me to officially embrace Islam three years ago. I never intended to convert, but the first time I heard the call to prayer, I was profoundly moved and started crying. It was a strange feeling, and eventually, I couldn't resist becoming a Muslim.
There are commonalities between Islam and Christianity; we believe in the divine prophets and accept the Ten Commandments of Moses. However, we differ in the practice of confessing sins to humans and the concept of the Trinity. We must love our neighbors, refrain from theft and murder, and worship the one God. Christians and Muslims share similarities, and regarding Islamic attire, I don't always wear a hijab, but I strive to dress modestly and with decency when leaving home. Even before marriage, I maintained appropriate attire and did not go out immodestly. Now, my five-year-old daughter is sensitive to hijab, and when she sees unveiled and scantily clad women on TV, she declares it as forbidden and changes the channel. She always wears a headscarf and modest clothing.
Some Muslims here do not adhere to Islamic etiquette due to their lack of awareness of Islamic teachings. Many non-Muslims visit our center, requesting a copy of the Quran. This demand has increased after the events of September 11th. Before that incident, there were approximately twenty thousand Muslims in Ireland, but the number has risen since then."
