📆 Today in History: A Reminder of Deviant Paths

🌺 Date: Tuesday, February 17, 2026
📆 Corresponding: 28 Bahman 1404 (Solar) | 28 Sha'ban 1447 (Lunar)

☪️ Significant Lunar Event:

✍️ The Execution of #Ali_Mohammad_Bab Shirazi; the founder of the deviant #Babism sect. (28 Sha'ban 1266 AH / 1850 CE)

📜 A Brief Look at His Claims & Legacy

The story of Ali Mohammad Bab is a crucial lesson in the history of religious deviation in Iran. He was a young merchant from Shiraz who, in 1844 AD, first claimed to be the "Bab" (gate) to the Hidden Imam (Imam Mahdi). His initial call was for people to prepare for the Imam's appearance.

However, as detailed by the Jewish Studies Center (jscenter.ir) , his claims evolved dangerously:

1. Early Stage (1844-1848): He called people to support the Hidden Imam through him as a "gate." His writings were presented as divinely revealed through the Imam.
2. Final Claim (From 1848): While imprisoned in Maku, he went further, explicitly abrogating the religion of Islam and proclaiming himself the "Qa'im" (the Promised Mahdi) and a "Manifestation of God" (Mazhar-e Zohurallah), claiming direct revelation from God without the intermediary of Gabriel.

This final claim was a direct contradiction of core Islamic beliefs, including the finality of Prophethood (Khatamiyat) with Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). Naturally, many of his early followers, who saw him only as a gate to the Imam, left him at this point. Others, however, accepted his new doctrine and abandoned Islam.

🛡 The Decisive Response of the State

The Babi uprisings led to significant unrest and battles in places like Mazandaran, Zanjan, and Nayriz. Mirza Taqi Khan Amir Kabir, the powerful Chancellor of the Qajar era, viewed the Babis as a serious threat to the stability and security of the country. According to the linked source, he took decisive action to suppress them, ultimately ordering the execution of Ali Mohammad Bab, which was carried out on this very day in 1850 in Tabriz.

Amir Kabir's firm stance is historically recognized as having prevented a major attempt to overthrow the Qajar government and establish a new rule based on the Babi's own book, the "Bayan."

⛓ The Aftermath: Schism and a New Path

After the Bab's death, his followers split. The majority eventually followed Mirza Hossein Ali Nouri, known as Baha'u'llah, who later claimed to be the figure promised by the Bab (Man Yozheroh Allah), leading to the formation of the Baha'i Faith. A smaller group, led by Mirza Yahya Nouri (Sobh-e Azal), remained followers of the original Babi teachings and became known as Azalis.

🌍 Significant Western Event:

✍️ The Death of #Jiddu_Krishnamurti, a false claimant to spirituality and mysticism. (February 17, 1986)

Krishnamurti was presented by the Theosophical Society as a world teacher and a new incarnation of Buddha. Although he later disbanded the organization built around him, his teachings continue to influence New Age movements, offering a spiritual path outside of divine revelation.

✡️ The Hidden Ones: Unveiling the Secret Network of "Hidden Babism" in Iran

We have extensively discussed the phenomenon of #Hidden_Judaism (Anusim / Conversos) and their historical impact. But in Iran, this concept intertwines with a closely related and parallel phenomenon: #Hidden_Babism and #Hidden_Bahaism.

Based on extensive research by the Jewish Studies Center, here is an in-depth look at this concealed network that has profoundly shaped modern Iranian history.

🧵 A Thread on a Secret History:

1️⃣ The Origins: A Faith Born from Collaboration
Our research strongly indicates that the early movement of #Ali_Mohammad_Bab (the founder of Babism) and his first followers was not an isolated event. From its very inception, it was deeply connected to specific, powerful circles. Among its primary partners were a network of influential and wealthy Jewish families. This foundational reality portrays early Babism not merely as a new religious sect, but as a movement structurally similar to the Dönmeh of Turkey (followers of Sabbatai Zevi) and the Frankists of Eastern Europe—movements that emerged from within Judaism but developed a dual identity, often with hidden practices and agendas.

2️⃣ The "Hidden Ones" (Nahan-Pishgan): A Defined Category
This complex web of influence leads us to define a specific category we call the "Hidden Ones" (نهان‌پیشه‌گان) . This group includes:
• Hidden Jews: Those practicing Judaism in secret.
• Hidden Babis and Hidden Baha'is: Individuals who publicly adhere to Islam or secularism but secretly follow Babi or Baha'i doctrines.
• Affiliated Agents: Individuals linked to foreign intelligence services active in Iran, most notably the Israeli Mossad.

This combination created a powerful and stealthy force for influence.

3️⃣ The Missing Link to Qajar History
The rapid spread of Babism and later Baha'ism, and especially their deep, systematic infiltration into the Qajar governmental structure (from the era of Mozaffar al-Din Shah onwards), remains an unexplained mystery in conventional historiography. Without understanding the role of these Hidden Ones, particularly the secret Jewish-Babi networks, this phenomenon is inexplicable. They acted as a hidden conduit for influence, money, and access within the highest levels of the state.

4️⃣ Why This Matters Today
The phenomenon of the "Hidden Ones" is not merely a historical curiosity. Its mysterious and complex role continues to be a factor in contemporary Iranian and global events. Understanding their historical methods of #Influence (Nofuz) —infiltrating power structures, operating with dual identities, and maintaining secret networks—is crucial for analyzing certain undercurrents in politics, culture, and ideology today.
