🎵 The Leader of the Revolution: Western Classical Music Astonishes Me
"You should know that by nature, I am among those who oppose the West. No aspect of the West astonishes or captivates me. Yet, I acknowledge its positive aspects through rational assessment. One of these is the category of music."
🎼 "It is true that the West has degenerate music, but in that same part of the world, there has long been instructive and meaningful music as well—music for which a wise, discerning person can buy a ticket, sit in a concert hall, and enjoy for hours."
🌍 "In the West, there has been no shortage of music that has sometimes saved a nation and sometimes guided a intellectual movement in the right direction. The West has possessed—and still possesses—such a characteristic."
⚖️ "In the East (within the geographical area I referred to), unfortunately, music has not enjoyed such credibility and status. Here, music consisted of frivolous tunes and instruments of amusement—which jurists have termed 'forbidden frivolous music'."
🏛️ "Imagine a certain caliph suffering from insomnia. Musicians had to come with singing maidens to provide his entertainment. The musician—with all the intellect, talent, and taste I mentioned—had to debase himself and lavish all forms of his art so that the caliph would emerge from the depression caused by his own bloodshed, cruelty, and wickedness!"
👑 "This was the state of music in the courts of Arab caliphs and emirs. The same applies to Persian monarchs. There are no shortage of kings who indulged in frivolous music and courts that hosted merrymaking music—among them, the Qajar court and its rulers."
⚠️ "Do you see in whose service music was placed?! This is why, in the words of jurists, music is considered forbidden, prohibited, untouchable, and unapproachable."
